What do you think is the best starter car?

Just go through the licenses and use the prize cars to win cups, then use those prize cars, and so on. Only buy a car if it seems very fun or rare to you. Otherwise, your garage will have enough prize cars [if you use every one for something] to power you for quite[i/] a while. But I would say buy an Impreza first because the Impreza cup is very easy and gives a race car on par with JGTC.

I started out with the mitsubishi 3000gt vr-4/ I am at 40.5% done and I have been using that car for most of the races and the funny thing is it sounds the same as my stealth.

Strictly speaking the best starter car could be a Group C race car. Do your liscence tests without buying a car, do the last 4 driving missions win, the Nissan R89-C (I think thats the name) then use that as your first car, you will also have collected a multitude of cars on the way, there isn't much fun in doing this, so I would do the first license test and the lupo, then try the sunday cup, you will have much more fun this way.

My choice for best starting car is the 1.4 Lupo, it can win over 200.000
Or Mirage 120.000 with min mods.
Or 89 miata 250.000. " " "
All without selling prize cars . My biggest mistake first time in this game was spending my ten grand on modding the Pontiac & it could not enter a one make c/ship :ouch:

if you were not using the 100,000 credits trick i would go for the '89 nissan skyline gts-t type m. thats what i chose and I think its a great starter car; very balanced.
Since you are using the trick then i'd go for the HPA motorsports stage II R32. It is a very quick car and very cheap too.:sly:

I was stupid and started out with the SSR, because I did little searching on cars, and the SSR was the first cool one I found. On the profile I recently started, I got the 1989 Skyline GT-R, but we didn't have the 100,000 cheat for this profile.

On one of the GT4 versions, you have to do the first mission first, or it would never say mission clear. This means no 100%. No matter how many times you try mission one after doing any other mission before it, mission one will never add to your percentage. You can however beat mission one, then the rest you can do any order you want. :)

Not a problem for me. I am with PAL 👍

It's hard to remember back to when I started GT4 :embarrassed:. If I recall correctly, I used various cars from the Licence Tests to earn some cash and went back into the Second Hand Lists after each race ... then a TVR V8S appeared ... and a Griffith ... and a Cerbera .

Whatever car you like is the one to use quite clearly - the massive advantage the GT series has over any other is that, race restrictions apart, you can take whatever path you wish.

I started my latest game w/ an '85 Mazda RX-7 GT Limited.
It only costs a little over half of the available starting credits, leaving you with enought $$ for some improvements.

Also, its strong engough to compete in the special conditions event Rally 'd Capri (stock aids off w/ an oil change) and win.

I have tried other cars in the past. '80 Toyota Celica XX 2800GT, '84 Nissan Skyline HT 2000 RS-X Turbo C etc. and credit to credit they are not as useful as the '85 RX-7.

i started with a fairlady z. i wanted the 350z but it doesnt have a drive train, so i went with the fairlady.

None of these replies (nor the recommended alt threads) answers the basic question of: Which is THE BEST starter car?

To answer this question properly, you need to back up your choice with hard facts, not just name the one you used. You also have to make a presumption: do you ignore the GT3 credits when you name your choice?

"The best" also needs to be defined. The "best starter car" needs to win the most races and/or Championships. That's the whole point of a starter car! (What else could it mean? If you say something like the best handling or the fastest, then it does not apply to the topic.) If another car can win more, then your suggested car cannot be "the best". There can only be a single best starter car (excluding another car that can tie it with wins). So which one is it?

This is the only chart I have ever seen that tries to define "the most versatile" GT4 car, by listing, categorically, the events it can win. It can also be bought as a starter car.

So, is there a better car than that one?

Cheers,

MasterGT

I started with an R34 GT-R V-Spec II N1 from the Nissan showroom. About the same as the GT Skyline, but you can go ahead and jump into the game instead of stagnating trying to gold the A tests (unless you're starting over a 2nd time, in which case you should soar through those tests). It may not be cheap, but its VERY good in stock form, and with small, progressive modifications to improve the car's balance, it grows with you quite well. By the time its fully built, you can run away from actual GT cars with it, it just eats tires. In fact, I won the All Japan GT championship w/ it, beating all the JGTC cars.

Honestly, one of the things I like about this car is its race-car appearance. Call me trivial, but I hate putting the big wings on street cars, but once your car passes a certain point, you need one. I can hardly think of a car in the game that can wear a CF GT wing than an N1 on black Advans...

OK A 97 Mirage for $6667 is my choice , oil it & spend $2500 on a chip & sports ex. I am new to the game & am p***off at spending ten minute's on N/Berg track as my skill's & knowledge of the track stop me from getting Nismo 270 prize car for my last A licence test & not having a GT3 save to gain the extra $100000..

I enter Sun cup & pick up 5x$600 & an Arbath , which I sell & spend on more upgrades for my mirage , not getting any brakes or sup as it seems to handle & stop very well in the Sun Cup .. Now I enter the Japanese Compact race with my car pumping out 191bhp & as I am very new to the game & my skill's still lacking I use the Qualifying option for a few practice laps & gain pole position & pick up 5x$2000 & $15000 prize purse .
Now I go back & spend some , if not all of my $25000 on more upgrades for my Mirage IE Close gears for shorter races & enter the FF race in Beginners & win .
Then I go to Pro Events & enter the World Compact Car C/Ship & again hone my skills with qualifying for pole & prize money is 5 x $7500 & $30000 Purse + a Honda S800 race that will win the Beginners Lite weight cup after Oil change & buying sports tyres for it.
Now I go to Mirage cup & again qualify & win that one & should have a bank balance around $100000. And my skills greatly improved .
What ever car you start with should be one that can win one of the manufacturer car race's.
I know that some will say a cheap WRX or EVO is best but you will end up winning fully modded version of these when you get into the game.

Have to edit my choice to the 89 Miata as it can do most of the above races & a couple more as well..

Welcome GT4Drifter.
Even with your GT3 save why waste your credits on cars like the Supra , Hpa Golf as these sorts of cars can not win a one make race . GT4 is more than just the Beginners Cup .. These types of cars are what you purchase to play with when you get a good bank balance built up.. The HPA Golf is a very good buy & maybe even the best in the game , but can't enter the Golf race or Stars & Stripes race. Why not go for something like a Dodge Ram as you have to have a truck for the last race in Beginners ?

Hi Master GT
While I must agree that the Subaru 22B is one of if not the best cars , it is not always available in the used car lot & if spending $32000 credits on a second hand car why not go for a new Subaru & pick your own colour ? That said my most used subby is a 22B.

Colt Mirage is a good FF choice. Peppy little box that can go and go when you've got caash to upgrade it.

RX-7s and MX-5s also good choices.

Me personally, I bought a Pyrenees Black '94 FTO GPX... coz I haz wun. :D

However, I soon backed it up with a choice from good GT2/3 memories, the R32 Skyline GTS25 M. Not fab in GT4, but a nicely balanced and healthy sounding car.

thanks
ive been playing GT4 for bout 2 years now
i had to start again after a currupt file
i started with a supra twin turbo from early 90's used car lot
it got me far in the game untill i got the gran turismo skyline witch basicly done nearl everything like the special events etc
and i used a ford pickup for the truck race since its the most powerful and good to tune
:):)👍👍:):)

Can we get back to best starter car & not favourite car as the title on this thread is " Best starter car " is it not ?
Even if you suggest cars like the HPA Golf , back them up with facts , like cost of car , cost of upgrades etc. If starting Beginners Cup with A 500bhp monster why not just Bspec it . OK I will represent my pick for starting with just $10.000 & no Nismo 270 prize car.:guilty:

I purchased an 89 Mazda MX-5 for $5950 add oil, chip, stage 1 wt red & RC Flywheel & update car with all winnings from Sun Cup & sale of prize car.
I wont repeat all the races it won , but without any Special Condition Races
My little MX-5 wins about $230.000 prize money & prize cars valued around $200.000 Cost of car & Upgrades around $45.000.:):):)
Hope this some help to new players:idea:

Skyline gt-s. Its cheap, runs well and with cash won put a stage 2 turbo and sports suspenion, good for most beginners and intermiate drivers

In early games, I tried a Chevrolet Corvette as my first car starting with 110,000 Cr. The car uses a lot of money, but it can beat most modern cars that are confronted at the start of the game, and you can win the 1000 Miles event with it, as it is a certified production classic.

The 900,000 Cr. (providing that you are victorious in all races in the championship) from there are more than enough to tune your car, or buy better ones and give them upgrades.

It's a sort of unorthodox way to get into GT4, but it works.

I started with Nissan Z33. But any Nissan z or Rx-7. they are cheap when you add an extra 100Gs but you can then tune it up.👍
