What do you think NFS should do in the next games for a return to form?

Similar question to the ones done for games like GT and Forza, but for NFS, would like to here your ideas and feedback about the next for NFS.

As NFS can vary wildly in what type of racing game they're, likely distinct/separated ideas for different game ideas (e.g. ProStreet-like one and Underground-like one) would be welcome too.

That's a good question. Unbound after all the deals seems to be really good in multiplayer but not so much in single player offline. I would like to see a game that has a robust single player mode and it would allow you to use your single player cars in the multiplayer. I would love to see more cars added and maybe they could do a SHift type deal but instead with Grid? I dunno just spitballing right now

I just want the next game to be as good as Unbound is in its current state for multiplayer, with a good enough single player story. Maybe single player more like Heat and mp like Unbound is probably the safe direction for them to go. A shared garage is a must though. All in all, with all the updates and stuff over the years, Unbound is probably the strongest NFS out of the last several titles.

Return to the supercars-vs-police identity of the pre-Undergound era. The Underground/Most Wanted themes have been run into the ground so hard they've tunneled to the center of the earth.

I doubt anything will help. The genre of open world arcade racers is exhausted and I personally can't think of anything that would save it
Perhaps you found a solution to save it without realizing it? Return to form to me reminds me of pre-underground 2 days, when the series wasn't an open-world arcade racer.

It'll likely never happen but I'd like to see them ditch the burnout-influenced "brake-to-drift" handling and return to something more like the pre-Criterion days. I enjoyed the way Burnout games played but without the over the top crashes, damage modeling and faster overall gameplay that NFS comparatively lacks, I'd prefer a more grounded handling model.

Edit: And the ability to map a custom control layout. My second biggest gripe with the NFS games is they always force you to use preset control schemes (on consoles at least) and the upshift/downshift buttons are always backwards to the way I intuitively want to use them.

Dunno if open world is just treated as an optional extra? While otherwise you can jump to safe houses, events, car lots, etc. like in MW 2005 (other than pursuits) and Carbon, so if you don't need the free roam it plays as if the game isn't open world one.

What'd be the ideas for said single player mode to be robust? Would be more of my question here about what qualifies for return to form.

Would this make said NFS as good or well-received as the PS2 Black Box era ones like Underground 2 and MW 2005?

Would you think Hot Pursuit 2010 or Rivals qualify for modern version of that identity? Though I think MW does bring back the supercars vs police part that was lacking in Underground (strictly tuner, the fastest cars at stock were the 276-hp level performance ones). I wonder if cop-type Career is added to MW or Carbon (which HP 2010 had) type of games too, full ones rather than a little part like Undercover.
Say goodbye to the open world and try to fill the gap left by PGR and Driveclub.
Should've been another GT vs Forza competition done by Sony/PS and Microsoft/Xbox.
