What does everyone here do for work?

I am a Truck Driver.

A longtime ago, I realised I did my best work as the spacer between the steering wheel & the driver's seat.
I started out driving Vans & Utes/Pick-ups - anything I could on my car licence and, 20 years ago, got my truck licence.
A typical day will have me driving from 300km to over 500km.

I bet you see a lot of bad drivers.

I'm a technician, not an engineer. I'll probably be the one getting run over in the pit lane or something.
The one getting hick in the back of the head by a loose tire cause too busy looking at the cars driving the other way.

This is what I want to do, as noted in the Premo Ramble thread about 3-5 months ago, as of now though it's just a call center taking to y'all Aussies. No Kiwi's though you'll be glad to hear.

Truck Driving, or, driving for a living in general, will get you out from behind a desk no problem.
Having said that, it's not a job I would suggest unless you have a surplus of patience.
It also depends a lot on what you're driving around & delivering/picking up.
I've had jobs in the past in this industry that I wouldn't do again for double the pay rate & customers that if you ever see them again, it'll be too soon.
If, like me, you end up driving a good vehicle for a good employer, working with good people and dealing with decent customers, it'll hardly seem like work.

BTW, how does someone from the Midlands of the Mother country end up on the phone with Aussies for a job?
Usually if we have to deal with a call centre, it's situated somewhere on the Sub-Continent & employs people with a very strong accent.

Work for a reputable German Appliance manufacturer. :P

We take the calls for UK/Ireland and then at nights we do the Australian calls. Anything from booking a repair, ordering spare parts or just general advice and technical questions on Bosch, Siemens, Neff and Gaggenau (BSH).

At the moment, I'm a Project Programme Management Officer within the financial area at a large IT company.

Quite a mouthful.

I'm in Entertainment at Rainbow's End, New Zealand's premiere theme park. It's my first proper occupation, been there for 6 months now, and I love it. Such a variety of things to do! Hosting birthdays, performing in shows and controlling the lights / sound / smoke machine / etc.

Wow, Rainbows End is still going? That's kind of cool, I remember going there as a kid. It was pretty choice.

I'm in the poop business and before that porn and that's no joke. I'm currently in the drain cleaning business and before that my partners and I had a small chain of adult retail stores in southwestern Ontario and North Bay. I went from the gutter to the toilet...literally:lol:
On your way up! Next will be toilet seat manufacturer.

Or, putting it another way, you went from the drain clogging business to the drain un-clogging business. :sly:

Automotive Technician for a GM Dealership. Needless to say I won't be running out of work anytime soon, "Engineers" and all love causing problems I end up fixing.

I've started a secondment about a month ago to be an internal knowledgebase developer for my employer. In addition to this task, I've also been helping develop the livechat system, internal quality scoring and external customer surveys.

Can you hook any Auckland based GTP members up with discounts? LOL

Oh lord, how many people have asked me that since I started working there...
We only get two passes every two months, and I just took my girlfriend and her family along, so it'll be a while before I'm even in the position to do so again!

That's all good mate. Dont worry bout me in the future if you do get passes. Keep 'em for your family.

On a side note, I wonder how many members there actually are in Auckland. I think I may have seen a couple in the profile pic before they updated the site.

Currently working as a Sales Assistant in a family friends' Grocery Store ( a local chain here in the Cotswolds), and I have handed in my month's notice today as I am due to start a new job as a Software Tester in September for a company that specializes in Netsuite applications.

After taking on 2 contract extensions of a co-op position- even though I technically had finished school last summer, I am finally being taken on as a Desktop Analyst. Only took 5 months and company restructuring to have a position open for the taking.

Congratulations, me.
