What GT5 Online needs

Well prior to PS3, ALL my online sim racing was done on sims such as rFactor,GTR etc.Upon getting F1CE for the PS3, online system disappointed me. ie, you join a server and everyone has to use default setp,i've always felt half the skill was in setting up your car. Also most servers have grid set by rankings, and when you can qualify, its a lame system it uses.In PC sims you get proper sessions like a race weekend, which allows you to practice and discuss things, whereas in PS3 you just join and race, then next race starts immediately . I really hope GT5s online mode has the same structured layout as something like rFactor, or else it feels as if you might as well be racing against AI.I'm not even sure you can boot/!ban people on F1CE,had people smashing for fun and never got booted.Fingers crossed GT5 has more efficient online mode.

Well certainly with a release game its online setup isn't going to particularly test the limits, it would just be a case of showcasing how the online setup works rather than, building a in depth online experience, however I think to some extent GT5 will be the same, it is the real driving simulator and it drives very much how you would expect a consol game to handle, the best out there but still slightly arcade physics at times. The PC seems to offer the more hardcore racing realism experience, with games like GTR, R-factor, LFS. They have a more target audience in terms of who will want the game. GT5 while being the best console race game it has to justify its self as a console game, which means selling many copies. For that PD will need to keep there audience as broad as possible.

Slightly side tracked there but what I guess I am trying to get across is, it won't probably won't have race weekends and the 'racing experience' that your hardcore PC sims will offer you but I would imagine you can expect a hell of a lot more than you can from a F1, since it is was showcase game after all.

What I would like to see is a massive league or knock out. I have always wanted to see how I stack up in the world against other GT enthusiasts like the ones who visit this site. Something that is more than a few random people, that the game deems your level of ability. I want big competitions run by PD now and again. This would be one hell of a task but one PD can pull off and would take many events to get through with the numbers involved in GT5.

Even if you can race some friends in Australia, when they are online, that still wouldn't be good enough by its self.

if they have online as well as a paint shop/good customization setup, then they should have online "car shows" where each one has a different theme and you sign in to that particular show, and then a list pops up with everyones name and car (maybe some specs) and you can click on the name which causes a picture to pop up of that person's vehicle. then there could be trophies and prizes for best cars, like a real show (except the voting system would have to be determined in the fairest way).

I remember after reading about FM2's online options that I said I didn't think PD would do all of the things Turn10 is doing. Then Tenacious pointed out a pic of Kaz showing some screens with options for online modes, it was pretty good list of options. I hope PD can push the PS network to its limits and give us the best online GT experience we could hope for, at least on par with other console racing games.

Hope it has an autosave option available on the online races which saves the replays, as I love watching and editing movies of great online races i've had. And I think GT only turns slightly arcadey when the tuning performance of the car goes unrealistic .PC sims do have some features for the over hardcore racers, such as the real life MOTEC telemetary system being able to give you an analysis of every cm of your car, though of course I don't expect this - it would however be nice to be able to practice in a server, for when you jump into an unknown car.

All I care about is Force Feedback!! It's impossible to use the wheel without it and I can't drive at all with a DS2. I spent a small fortune buying a PS3, wireless router and a 36" HDTV just for GTHD only to find out there's no FF, so my PS3 sits idle while I play GT4 on a PS2.

EDIT: Disregard the above, FF is now available on the PS3, you just need to re-download GTHD and everything is great!!! No more PS2, I've transfered GT4 to the PS3 and now have HD for GT4 as well as GTHD of course!!!
Gonna go see if it works on F1 and Motor Storm :)

With Forza 2's release coming along in mere weeks, you know that more developers than Polyphony are interested, but you can bet they're the most keen on what the low down is. FM2 is looking quite ambitious, and has a few of the items I've been harping on in some of my wishlist threads, such as a good sale/auction set up, A.I. drivers with personal racing traits and season long stats, and a Career Mode which also follows your online play. Not to mention the tornaments hosted by Turn 10 and savable replays from online races. Forza 2's online as well as offline gameplay looks quite robust.

You can bet that just as Forza borrows heavily from Gran Turismo, Kazunori-sama is going to look at what's popular and works well with Forza and tinker with it to make their own version of it. Sony knows how important online play has become over the past... decade practically, trying to get it to work with mixed results on the PS2. The HD based PS3 should give Kaz and the lads plenty to build a good online experience with.

Hey Chad! :)

I knew you would chime in Tenacious, can't wait to race you, just a few more weeks. After that the wait begins for GT5, and hopefully PD will give us as much as Turn10 has, as far as info for its fans.

I bought a 360 Elite over a PS3 because that pesky Forza 2 is tugging on my wallet. Actually it tugged too much, I already ordered it. Now I'm reeealy wanting the darn Forza 2 demo to get here because nothing much in the 360 library appeals to me.

When Forza 2 does get here and I manage to cram in some quality racing time, I'll be online before you know it. And as I see how the various modes play out, I'll be sure and critique it on the forums, and see what might be cool for Kaz and the lads to consider in a Gran Turismo context.
