What is the best country for producing world class cars?

In my opinion the british ran the show 30 odd years ago but now it's gone down the drain, the only decent company that makes decent sports cars is TVR.
Germany or Japan take my vote.

I would have to vote for Germany too. Their main manufacturers (Audi, BMW, Mercedes, VW, Porsche)are doing really well at the minute in producing top-class cars. They have some tuners (Brabus, AMG, Hartge, MTM, AC Schnitzer) doing awesome stuff too.

Considering the term 'world class' is probably the most vague thing ever to set foot on the GTPlanet, I abstain from, among other things, voting.

The title says best country for producing world class cars.
It doesn't matter which country it is produced in. Its all in the technology. A ferrari produced in the US will still be a Ferrari. People will still call it an Italian car. The same goes for other cars.

So, wanna change the title?

Im with Giles, German cars are the world leaders right now and other car manufacturers ( whether Japanese, American, Korean, French.... ) are always taking elements, here and there, from German cars to make their own cars.

germany, more specifically bmw.

now lets see all the little kids come and say how japanese cars are better than everything else on earth.

Germany and Japanese get my vote. The only Japanese that produce world class cars are Toyota, Nissan, and Honda in IMO. BMW and Mercedes are great German auto makers. Also Ferrari is a good world class company.

Germany and Japan get my vote in terms of, they produce the best, and most frequent world class contenders, but in terms of best throughout history, i'd say italy.

italian cars fall apart, what am i missing?

i already started a flame war so who cares, lets go.

imo japanese cars are great, but not world class. reliable, high performance, economical, ugly, generic, bland.

It depends on what you want. If you're talking Supercars, Italy or Germany seem to make the fastest (though German cars tend to be more reliable). If you're talking about performance daily drivers then either Germany or Japan.

Thats not stopped the Vauxhall Vectra. :D

How I hate that Vectra.

These days you can't really say that a single country produces the best cars, seeing as most companys are owned by others etc. Take the 350Z, made by a Japanese manufacturer, was designed in America (as far as my remembering what people said on topgear) and the engine unit was originaly sourced from Renault (don't they own nissan?).

So all in all, it's a real Japanese product.

The 350Z was designed in America by a Middle-Eastern fellow at Nissan's California design studio (so it's still a Nissan design, despite various influences).

And just because all the British companies are owned by others doesn't mean all companies are. :P

SaleenASL told me that 'best for producing world-class cars' 'r0x0r to the m4x0r,' so I'm going to go with Germany.

Good point - BMW consistently outsells Audi and Mercedes in the US, the largest luxury market, but we'll just put that aside.

Apart from TVR, Noble and some other arse backwards small companies.

You know I swear we must've had Vauxhalls that didn't suck (Barring those Lotus influenced ones) at one point or another.

Oh well i'll just pretend Ford Europe is a separate company.

I still take the country that produces PERODUAS as the greatest country. Wherever the **** it is.

This thread is basically "which automobile producing country is your favorite."

Now that everything's cleared up, get back to bashing Japanese makes.

Despite the fact that all these answers are opinion, and nothing more, the correct answer was "Germany", Doug.

That just wouldn't be his style.

You know, I would choose Germany if Doug said he liked the look of the new 7 series.

now doug, could you have incorporated all those thoughts into ONE nice reply?

If you count all the times I could've incorporated several posts in a row into one reply, I'd have 6500 replies. Seriously. I do it all the time. Sage sends me PMs constantly, sometimes drunken, in which he tells me to make less posts in a row in the same thread.

I only like the look because so many people hate it as an 'I'm an expert on car style too!!!' thing.

I personally hate it but I will defend it to the death.

You will defend your non-liking of it?
