What is the best Le Mans prototype?

If you're going to get technical, the 905 doesn't count being a Group C car, and GT-One is a LM GTP or LMP900 car if I recall correct.

Audi R8 '01. Streets ahead the best in class.

Peugeot 905, I'm guessing because it can easily beat the rest of the field.

Agree with this regardless if it's a LMP or not, I've destroyed many Pescarolo's, 787B's, R8 race cars, and Toyota GT-ones around "technical" tracks online!

That's about Le Mans race cars in general. This is strictly about the Prototypes.

OP, I don't really think there's a 'best'. They all have their ups and downs. Just which ever one you like the most. My favorite is the 787. :)
Ironic. Isn't the 787B a Group C car?

Probably the Peugeot 908. The Audi is quite slow...

Sadly, that is true. I don't know how PD did it, but they absolutely ruined the R10 TDi. It's terribly unforgiving (much harder than all the other Le Mans cars) and it handles like a pig. Also, sound is veeeery off 👎.

Group C (best to worst): Minolta, R92cp, R89c, Sauber, 905, 787B, XJR
LMP (best to worst): R8, Gt-ONE, 908, Speed 8, R8 PlayStation '05, Judd GV5, V12 LMR, Couage C60, C60 Hybride, R10

I've taken into consideration both straight line speed and cornering ability.
And this list is accurate when all the cars are fully modded
Don't pay attention to the cars used in the time trial, those cars are limited to 700pp.

Is it? I never can tell them apart.

Then going by the post above mine I've driven them all except the Pescarolo's, and the Bentley was hands down the best imo.

Group C was started in 1982 and killed off 1993, LMP was introduced from 1994 onwards.

So all the cars from '94 up are the Prototypes?

Now that I think about it the Group C's like the Minolta and the 787B have somewhat that the same shape, and the LMP's like the Bentley and the C60's have the same shape too. Is that regulation or just the best way to do it?

Yes, although some LMP cars turned up in 1992 and 1993. But they were in the WSC category. Then in the late nineties you had a lot of GT1 cars converted to the LMGTP class, like the McLaren F1 and Toyota GT One. It's a bit confusing but yes, every car of that style after 94 are prototypes in one category or another.

The shape/design is down to the rules, yes.

The Peugeot 905 is hands down the best to drive. Maybe not the best in terms of pure Topspeed or power but due to it´s uniqueness of being N/A it´s very easy to drive and has good Tire-wear.

For me it´s the best and first choice and that from the first time I bought it from the UCD.

Others I like:
BMW V12 LMR
Bentley Speed8
R8 (both Team-Oreca and the two Team-Joest)
Nissan R92C and the R89C
Mercedes Sauber (the one where Schumi raced in)
Toyota GT-One

That are my favourite LeMans Race-Cars.

personally, my favorites are the 905, R8 and 908. In that order.

I dont wanna hi-jack the thread, but does anyone know the difference between the 01 R8 and the R8 Race Car (Audi PlayStation Team ORECA) '05 the OCD currently? I have the 01 and was thinking about getting the 05.

Are they just different color schemes, or is there more to it? I see the spoiler is different and one has a 3.6 liter and the other is a 3.5something. Is one a v-8 and one a v-12?

The '05 is considerably slower than the two '01s, similar in overall performance (when tuned but not upgraded) to the Pescarolo C60 Peugeot, but still not a bad car to have in your stable. Have a look at this link for the specific differences in specification, they're not as dissimilar as you were thinking.

Which Le Mans prototype has the fastest speed and which LM prototype has the best handling?

The '01 R8s seem to have the highest average speed during hot-lapping, but the C60 hybride seems to be the better driver over several laps and both throughout its tire wear and handling in the wet. I liked the 908s myself, not only for the rich in-car view but for its obscene torque figures but moderate friendliness to tires. The drawback is that its relatively small field of view from inside makes the LeMans 24 hour race a bit droning due to the unevenness of the track surface on the straights. The camera bounces a great deal and when driven at night with rain coming down the chicanes appear way too suddenly.

Power isn't everything, my friend. :sly:

Too true. I prefer to keep leave them un-upgraded and simply tune the crap out of them to suit my driving style.

The 05 Oreca machine weighs 50 Kg more because by 2005 the ACO was handicapping older cars like Audi R8s. Though it also had bigger restrictor plates in real life, in the game it seems both cars have the same power. Other than that, they are the same.

It's slow because it's the only one PD got the stats correct on.
