What is the car on the cover?

That cover is not stretched tight over the car anyway, so any lines or bulges would be false clues to the real car's body profile, making this a pointless discussion to begin with. I don't think it's even a car from the game, but if I have to pick, I'll pick an Alcyone. That boxy back end and sloping rear hatch give it away. Of course, feel free to disagree 👍.

I did some paint work and result is following.

I'm voting on Corvette.
This could even be the Corvette Stingray that is only usable in Arcade Mode

The Sting Ray's rear profile looks too low to support the cover at the rear, and the front overhangs would be too short, but not a bad guess.

A, 'new' candidate (though mentioned before in the thread) would be a Toyota Supra SZ-R.

There is clearly no rear spoiler on that car, so being a Supra SZ-R is a very small possibility. Maybe it's the MA70 Supra?

The SZ-R does not have a spoiler, and it is possible that the car on the cover does not have one either. However, the MA70 is a good guess. Between that and JZA70, there are hardly any external differences...

So you're thinking of the JZA70 Supra SZ-R, I thought it was the JZA80 SZ-R. It makes perfect sense then.

Combined both the picture of the car in GT1 and the actual car, and I got to say the Camaro is the closest to matching the shiloutte of that car. To be more presice, I think its the Camaro 30th Anniversary edition.... 👍 (plus, it coincides with the year that GT made their appearance :dopey:)

i always thought it was either a Camaro or Pontiac Firebird. if not that then some fictional prototype PD drew up and threw under the sleek covers...

From the latest interview of KY in Famitsu regarding GT5 and TGS advancements (the one in the front page): "When I think about what car to put on the cover, I have to figure out which car is considered the coolest at this exact moment in time"

Let's think, was the Camaro the coolest car in that time? I don't think so...

Sort of NSXish, but too high. A photo of KY with a new Lancer circulated sometime around the height of GT1. But the mystery car definitely isn't a Lancer.
