Recently, after seeing threads being dragged up from the depths of GTPlanet.net with OP's dating back to 2005-2006, I was wondering, what is the oldest surviving thread on GTPlanet? I'm sure someone here knows.

If by "surviving thread" you mean any thread that isn't locked and can still be posted in, then this is the oldest I could scavenge after 10 minutes of searching.

And after seeing the news post for GTP's 10th anniversary a couple of years ago, I believe this is the oldest thread around. But it was locked years ago.

TIL: "lol" has been around since 2001, probably longer.

A quick bit of digging online indicates that LOL has been used for Laugh out Loud since the 80's.

I do remember using back on MSN and AIM in the late 90's

The staff have an active thread that has been running since 2001, but only we can see it (obviously), which I believe would make it the oldest active thread on the site.

We use it to discuss donuts and cookies.

I remember going into WBS chat in the mid-90's. when I was in middle school and every girl screen name I would ask for ASL. Those where the days.

I'm assuming it is on par with some of the Infield threads, though they've been periodically closed due to their size :P

Dammit Daniel! You can't ask a question, then correct me on my answer!

Oh, wait. The imports thread is older. :P

Yep, but this one is still going strong.

And probably will, while people still do and say dumb things here

The infield was only born in 2004, and I doubt that any threads got moved to the infield from the general forum.

Is this a challenge? :P

EDIT: Also found the oldest thread:

What? A glitch? That's what they want you to think :sly:

This is still going from Jan 23, 2002. Makes fun and nostaglic reading, well for me anyway. :)

Be warned, moderation was a little different then and you could get away with more.

Every few months, the "What does your username mean?" thread floats back up, which is from 2001 (located in the Rumble Strip).

^Man, I still thought cars moved from the force coming out of the tailpipe in 2001. I was only 5  I also thought boats moved with giant legs that grabbed onto the ocean floor, but I'm getting off topic :P

Edit: First time I ventured into the Computers forums, and I found this one from October of '01. Probably not the oldest, but its still relatively active and well over 10 years old.

Funny that this question would be brought up, as I was thinking this myself last week.

I had a read through the "Questions about Mods" thread which dates back to 2006, very entertaining.
