So far no M3 GTR's have been raced at LeMans, that is because until mid last year there was no homologation model, ie road version of the car. It might pop up in next years LeMans race. But as Kent stated, it has raced in the ALMS, and many other GT championships.

Indeed. 👍

However, I'm inclined to see the M3 GTR Race Car in GT4 (from the ALMS) as a Le Mans car.

If the R8 is good enough for both the ALMS and the LM enduro series then I'm gonna say every car from the ALMS is good enough to be part of the LM enduro series. 👍

It's just a matter of having a team actually enter one in the enduro series. :dopey:

Btw, who in the world voted the McLaren F1 as their favorite other than me? :odd:

Kent

I did. Is there something wrong with it? I just think that handling overcomes power, and the McLaren is a very good balance between the handling of a touring car and the raw power of an endurance racer. :dopey:

It has historical value too, the first Finn to win the Le Mans drove a McLaren, a different version though.

Nope, nothing wrong with that. 👍
You may notice that I said "who would voted for the McLaren other than me." :sly:

Personally, I think the McLaren in GT4 is amazing...
Like I mentioned before, I've taken the McLaren in Arcade Mode to under 5'30 on the Ring. :D
I would have never spent the time it took to do that if I didn't like the car. :)

The main strength of the McLaren is that it's fast, but not overly fast. Thus I can push it much more than the 900+ bhp monsters, eventually leading to a better time. Definitely one of the best cars in the game, but it doesn't see much use in races because it doesn't have any rivals in its class. Every other car that has similar power figures is too slow and the ones that can match the speed of it are way too powerful.

I'll have to try it on Nürburgring, but I'm aiming to a sub six minute time rather than the 5'30. I'm not THAT good. :D

Well you may be suprised how the McLaren can carry you.

When I first tried it I wasn't expecting anything (kind of just waiting to see what it could do).

Ran down into the 5'40s.
Then I stuck with it and now I'm down to exactly 5'26.977. :mischievous:

It's amazing to see how the McLaren can constantly improve lap times... I doubt I will ever really find the end to this car's potential.

My guess on the Ring though... 5'20.???
I say that because I know my lap has atleast .5 to lose before T2. :scared:
And that's with a T2 of less than 1'00.000.

Might have to go try it again now that I've taken a few weeks away from the challenge (you can only run the McLaren on the Ring for so long before you get burnt out).

Just worry about completing a lap... That's the only way I could get started.
Oh, and don't be scared to let off the throttle in certain areas... This is one car that can actually be faster by taking your time (just cause full speed will surely wreck you out). :banghead:

Well you seem to have the Ring nailed, if I had a second choice the F1 would have been it. But I just about like the CLK more, just about.

Not many cars from the game actually raced the Le Mans 24 hours in the same year that the game mentions.

Here are the 16 I could verify :
  • #6 Ford GT 40, 1969
  • #2 Jaguar XJR 9, 1988
  • #63 Sauber C9, 1989
  • #23 Nissan R89C, 1989
  • #55 Mazda 787B, 1991
  • #1 Peugeot 905, 1992
  • #42 BMW McLaren F1, 1997
  • #32 Nissan R390 GT1, 1998
  • #15 BMW V12 LMR, 1999
  • #3 Toyota GT-One, 1999
  • #51 Viper Oreca, 2000
  • #64 Corvette C5R, 2000
  • #1 and #2 Audi R8, 2001
  • #7 Bentley Speed 8, 2003
  • #17 and #18 Courage C60, 2003
  • #17 and #18 Pescarolo C60, 2004

and I think that's all.

The Panoz Esperante, Vertigo, Minolta 88C, Mercedes CLK, XJ220 or Zonda didn't race in the same year that the game mentions.

This all depends if you mean LeMans car, or car that raced in the LeMans 24hr or a combination of both. As Kent pointed out before, they are two different things and will get different answers.

Indeed. My post over there ^ ^ only deals with the 24 hours, not the ALMS.

i voted for the jag xjr-9. slippery and quick. it has way more feeling to it then any other car i've got. and for me it seems to go faster then any other car in the game.

I had quite a nice rally collection going on , and then I decided to buy a car I had been toying with buying for a long time now.. the Peugot 905. I was sadly disappointed , it was so slow on downshifts , I just sold it after a few test laps , and a 5 lapper around the 'Ring. Now before I get flamed , I don't know all that there is to know about tuning up cars , so if it's my own ignorance that caused the 905 to be slower than the competition, then ignore me as needed:P I might just restart the game , I had some seriously nice cars and now all I've got to show for it is a Vemac (ASL Garaiya JGTC) , an Asparadrink RX-7 , a Spoon S2000 , and a souped up Civic Hatchback.

Favourite Group C Cars:

2. Mazda 787B
3. Sauber C9

The Nissan is my favourite overall, but I picked the Mazda!:ouch:

i'm a big fan of the C5R. not just because its been my fav since GT3 but also since i saw it win 24hr or daytona and its class win at leman. but back to why i love it in the game. i can drive it super fast and be very comfortable. i just enjoy driving it and beating the copmuters on level 10 with it. its just a fun car to drive you butt off in. but if i want to just crush the competition i'll use the 787. i love it cause its the only car in the game that can keep up with my agressive driving style. its a pretty close choice for me on these two cars. but the C5R gets my pick for i guess personal reasons. also i have much my milege on the C5R then i do the 787.

Kent
My fav is definately the McLaren F1 GTR. 👍 👍

Ever since I got GT4 I've been running that car and loving it. :dopey:

Once I get the time to start racing arcade mode again I will try to break under 5'26 on the Ring with the Big Mc. :mischievous:
(right now I've stopped to take a break after managing a 5'26.9)

So my Fav, definately the McLaren.
Here's a picture of the McLaren (which I'm sure plenty of people have seen.

Also, if we are going to include the Zonda (despite it not being the same car), then I also suggest you include the NSX LM. 👍
(and yes, I am well aware that this is not the "exact" car from GT4)

Finally, here's another picture of A Zonda race car (although it is not the exact one from the game (since afterall, the exact car from the game does not exist).

Hey Kent, just a little pointer, the picture of a McLaren 'Fina' that you have on this post isn't the one the game replicates, you have the 1996 'fina' short-tail car, the game replicates the 1997 'fina' longtail car. I knwo it's not a big deal, but seeing how much you like you Mac I thought I would point it out.

I'm suprised how few people have chosen the Sauber?

Sorry, didn't take the time to notice the built-in spoiler wasn't there (that's the big kicker for the differences to the eye imo).

In anycase, good call. 👍

Oddly, I notice that you didn't comment on the NSX (another great LM car that was left out of the list).

The NSX LM is one of my favs in this as well... It handles similar to the McLaren but doesn't have the power to weight ratio.
It's still not as fast as the BMW M3 GTR but it's fast enough to be a challenge for the driver. 👍

So yeah, :P
The NSX is a good car to have on that list as well.

I'm gonna have to list my favs here (since just picking one isn't good enough)...

McLaren F1 GTR (Fina)
Audi R8
BMW V12 LMR
Bentley EXP 8
CLK-GTR
Pescarolo (V10 model)
Oreca Viper
Zonda LM
C5-R
NSX LM
R390 GT1
TS020 (GT-One)
Minolta 88
Sauber C9
787b
Rcp 92
Ford GT LM (GT4 Intro Car)

The rest of them I'm not really as much a fan of.
Don't get me wrong, the Jag and the Fords are good but not top notch in my eyes like the others.

It seems the Mazda 787B Le Mans winner of 1991 with it's awesome rotary engine, piloted by ex-F1 ace Johnny Herbert amongst others appears to be the favouite LMP car out of the gtplanet.net members.

Who is going to fly to Japan to deliver the award to Mazda motorsport chief's?

Sauber C11

I voted the R8 as it helped me win GTWC in Professional and multiple races in Extreme which I don't find as hard as I expected it to be(so far). I like the Minolta for its quick acceleration(fastest acceleration in all the cars I own) but I like the R8 for handling a bit better.
I was hoping the BMW McLaren F1 GTR was going to be a kick-ass car but I have my doubts.

Altho in real life mine would be the Nissan R92CP, in GT4 the driving of it is just aweful and way prefer the Toyota GT-One on GT4.

BUT, I voted R92CP after all... :)

id like the "All" option but im gonna go with the Toyota 7 (if it is/was one not sure. should be tho), the Jr-9, and the Minolta because of their good handling (at least for me)

I like them all. But I like the R8 the most. It has been the most dominant LMP car in the last four years.
