What is Your Idea of a Brand-New GT?

Well first and foremost, they need to clearly state the difference between tire grades. No more handicapped physics, I find it silly that they needed to give all regular cars(non racers) sport medium tires which aren't close to what they ride on in real life to begin with. To make things simpler, especially if they don't plan on adding tire manufacturers to the game, is to get exact recommended tire from the car manufacturer and then procure the tire data from the tire manufacturer. As for tuning, how about real world measurements for a change, and they need to stop giving racecars unbridled hp numbers with no way to de-tune, land sakes man the CLK-GTR didn't race competitively with 785+hp, 600hp was the magic number in '98. While changing engine parts is nice, how about actually being able to fiddle with the ECU and compression ratios, man this will be one serious algorithm to solve. If I want to make my car more torquey, all me to do so, oh the rally cars should consume a considerable amount of fuel considering they are always burning fuel even upon deceleration. The tachometer should react accordingly. Car interiors would be very nice too, but the view point would have to make sense, you should see A-pillars, dash, wipers, some steering wheel, lots of hood and maybe some parts of the cabin as well as peripheral view, might sound convoluted, but if it's done right, judging depth of view will be greatly increased. Anything is better than that ridiculous bumper cam, can't see over cars from that view, making approaching corners a guessing game.

Those few things are what I really need addressed for this to be a brand spankin' new GT. But I know the cabin view might not be what I envisioned though, but anything beyond what is in GT4 would be welcomed, they should lose that roof cam, that's just pure sillyness if you ask me.

Why do people complain about roof cam? I think that's absurd. You never take an element or feature AWAY from a game, you add to it. If you don't like something like roof cam, don't use it. Simple, nein? ;)

Frankly, most behind the wheel views in racing games are some awful letterboxed thing which is half car interior, half view of the road. But if you really pay close attention to how your road view looks when you drive, it's hugely panoramic. You barely see the inside of your car unless you look down at your dash. I think Toca 3 came closest to a proper behind the wheel view.

I really doubt that inside the car views will be in GT5 because it would almost double the number of car models, inside and outside of each car, unless you fudged several of them together to save modelling time. Or you barely saw anything of the interior, or not at all, such as with Toca. But as I said, we'll see in a few months as news becomes available.

I agree with both SavageEvil and Tenacious D -- the roof cam is a useless, distorted, poorly-implemented view, but there's no reason to remove it considering the fact that some people like it. ;)

In any case, as I said in my last post, the bare minimum that PD will have to do for GT5 regarding interior views is a custom tach, speedo, and turbo gauge for each vehicle (two or three extra 2D textures can't be that hard), perhaps combined with a generic dash view that sits farther forward (as Tenacious D wanted) rather than where the driver sits.

I always thought that the way Polyphony gave both the casual and hardcore players something was Arcade Mode...

In GT3, this was partly true, with the ability to unlock (some) cars for arcade mode by playing arcade mode. However, some cars remained unavailable unless you bought them in simulation mode.

In GT4, you cannot get anywhere in arcade mode without unlocking tracks and cars in GT mode.

Has anyone here played Hot Pursuit 2 for PS2? This game actually had the in car view for the Ferrari F50, complete with dash working gauges and what not. Considering that PS3 will be using Blu Ray media, they better get to work on including every incar dash in the game, there is no risk of running out of space on a 50 Gig double sided disc. I drive very often, but if you sit still and not move the car you will begin to see how many things you actually notice inside the car. I'll have to take a photo from my eye level and post it, oh and GT5 MUST be in 16X9 widescreen, nothing else will make sense in the in car view, you need the peripheral view as that also aids in sense of speed.

i think the in-car view is essential, as anyone who has played Tourist Trophy can confirm it gives a much better sense of differentiation between the different bikes, a race mod SR400 feels completely different from a TZ250 and a big BMW..

I want the same thing in GT..
when I take a 92 civic around the track i want it to feel different from Peugeot LM Racer, I want to see the stereo in one and feel the claustrophobic purposefulness in the other. I want to see light glinting off the scratches in the perspex windshield (see LOMAC) and see the crap building up 6 hours into an enduro.

on the subject of extra modeling load, its a problem that can be solved by man power, its not software dev issue, its an assets issue, and asset building scales more easily.

Id also like to see a home/garage, not a pointless NBA cribs style thing, but a large space were you can walk around and see your car collection (like PGR3) and have your photomode pics on the wall. later in the game it would be nice to see your mechanics stripping and working on your cars between races, not in such a way that it holds up the game, but just some nice ambient animation to add life...

EDITED: Theres a long list off what I want to see in GT5, in no paticular order;

Truck racing
Drift challenges
Drag races
exterior damage
Interior veiw
Better music
Tyre marks
More realistic tyre wear
After rallies the cars are dirty
Real weather and daytime effects
A grid off at least 30 cars for LeMans races 20+ for others
Proper rally track stages not lapped circuits
The cars flip over instead off hitting an invisible barrier at a 45 degrees angle
More realistic pit scenes
The ablility to respray your car
Much more Aggresive AI
3D Graphics (Trees, people etc)

as long as the exterior damage is just for looks and doesnt affect performance.

I actually thought the Roof Cam was especially helpful, especially in rally. So much goes on and you need the best possible view of the track. I recommend Roof Cam though many would rather an in-car package. A little added bonus is that you can sort of see the driver's hands gripping and turning the steering wheel in some cars with Roof Cam enabled. Just a nice little touch.

Roof cam is the best of all views in one. You can see your car. You can see beside your car. You can see the road in a way that's probably as useful as in real life, with the infinite resolution of reality allowing you to see details miles away from you, which is almost impossible for a video game to capture. Of course if you hate it, I'm pretty sure the game won't force you to use it. ;)

Someone in Polyphony did say that they were going to see if they could model all the interiors of the cars for a proper drivers view, so maybe we'll see some news on this in the coming months, like in the fall Tokyo Game Show.

That view was absolutely astounding.
it was also in the 360 challenge stradale.

Now, as for all type of gamers, hardcore and daily gaming folk alike, the licenses are still a must-have.
The license tests are A. a Gran Turismo signature. B. Needed to make people practice a bit and get good at the game before simply racing.
Being an extremely hardcore GT fanatic myself, I must say having cars that can only be unlocked by getting all gold or silver even, is silly.
GT4 is the only GT game I got all tests gold, and that took a while. Granted, the cars arent very high-demand, but hey, it should be attainable for all right?

But then it gets more complicated.
If we need to make sure everyone can beat that, than we need to make sure everyone can beat the AI. - not so easy if you want a challenge for serious gamers, is it?
modes of difficulty are the only way to solve this problem.
Either, 2 levels, normal and professional.
or, better yet, Normal, Club-racer, and Professional.
with each level, make all license tests harder, races longer, AI faster, and maybe even lower the prize money, or prize cars...by any means, the first three.

And, eliminate Manufacture races.
excepfor higher end vehicles - nobody whines about driving them as much.
just make sure to add MANY, MANY club-style events, like ones with Real-Life modification limits, and club races, races with tuned cars, and higher tuned cars. races where you can take your Honda Civic Type R out on R1's, and not have to race 500hp monsters. something for 250hp cars, and 300hp, and 200hp, but don't just limit HP. Revise the A-Spec system, so it's actually functional in determining difficulty, and maybe even logical, and make cars "qualify" by needing, say 50 points to enter. if it wouldnt be a 50-point race, your car's to fast, and tech won't let you race. modify it, re-tune it, and make it fair, than race.

In my opinion the following would change GT5 into a new game, and not just an updated GT4.

An AI system that recognises other cars, will take a defensive line, but will actively avoid crashes.

Dynamic lighting. So we can have true night races or endurance races. This would also require modelling of diffrent types of headlights. Imagine driving down the Mulsanne straight in a 60's GT40 with poor headlights compared to a modern LMP1 car.

Saving in Pits for endurance racing (Love to the Le Mans 24 hours over a period of time)

Accurate and easily understood entry limitations on races. In GT4 I'm not exactly sure what it classes as an unmodified car, as you seem to be able to tune the cars.
Perhaps weight, power and maybe cost limitations on entry. Ballast would be allowed to bring a car up to the base weight. The choice of location for ballast would be adjustable as in GT4.
Could air restrictors be implemented to allow power to be restricted on the more powerful cars, as in real life.
A limitation on cost particularly in tuning could make people choose which items to tune for maximum effect i.e. Would upgraded suspension or power benefit you most in that race.
I guess what I'm looking for is more races where it is not always possible to buy a victory, and to avoid races where one model car dominates. I don't want all races to have restrictions, I think some open races are required.

Taken from my post that got no reads

How about those of us that have a PSP to be able to use it as a HUD showing spedometer and tach, maybe map(GPS anyone?) track time ect..............
(of course you have to have the wheel, so it can mount it on)
it would free up more space on the screen and add more reality to those of us that have cockpits.

was thinking sony said they will incorporate the psp to the ps3 to show extra stuff....... could that apply to our beloved GT5?????

^ I agree to that, plus make those speedos and gauges look like exactly from the real car like these:

^ Imagine, your PSP has a screen like this while your playing GT5 on your PS3! Now thats what I call hardware integration!

-> In addition to that (I posted this before on an another thread):

1. More Cars- There are so many cars that were over looked in the past, not just LamPorFerra.

2. More Tracks- 50 tracks is still not enough to play with our vast amount of cars.

3. Refining the car that are designated on certain countries- Example: Ford USA, Ford Europe, etc.

4. Reverse lights that work- This has been a problem since GT1, and NFS3: Hot Pursuit on PS1 has this feature first.

5. Random weather changes- Or if possible (since PS3 is online-ready) live weather forcasts on real world tracks like Nur, Suzuka, Infenion, etc.

6. Random day changes for races 5 hrs. and up- Well duh, its essential for endurance races.

7. An option to switch your headlights on or off- I know its more on the cosmetic side but, I like to switch off my lights during at night.

8. More aftermarket options- What I mean is REAL aftermarket parts, not those what you see on NFS:U, MC: DUB, etc.

9. A little bit better A.I.- I'd like to see the AI a little bit more challenging but fun to compete with, not a overpowered batter ram.

10. Online interaction- I think this is the only weapon (for XB & XB360) against the PS series, I hope to see a wholesome version for GT fans. (:

11. Interactive garage- This was discussed before on the other thread, I like to see my garage form a storage mess, to a 50 car warehouse showroom garage. (:

12. Realistic pricing on parts- C'on, Cr40,000 on racing soft tires!?

13. Horsepower Restrictions- That is why GT2 is so engaging/challenging.

14. Boost Control (for modified turbo-powered cars)- This was featured in GT1 before, how come since then they ignored it?

15. Canyon/Mountain tracks- If it worked with Kaido Battle and Initial D, why not?

16. 3D Race officials- I like to see a checkered flag waving as I cross the finish line.

17. No 5 car Rally Races- The race will be highly complicated and ridiculus, unless if it will be a rallycross event.

18. Improve the games soundtrack- This I can agree with anybody, GT4's OST suck.

19. Random capacity on crowds from grandstands- For example, if you're doing a Time Trial there will little or no crowds around you. As the races gets more prestigeous (excuse my spelling) the crowds gets more and more packed.

20. More replay functions/options- When I like to see a spectacular manuever, I'd like to see over again right away, not repeating the whole 18 laps of it.

21. A dedicated (I mean official) forum (I hope here in GTPlanet)- So we can express our views about GT series. A good way to stumble the fan-driven Forza.

(:

Good Gawd NO, do not want to fathom that. Leave that gimmicky stuff out please. Keep everything PS3 only, lol.

Just messing with ya man.

i hope the server master will have lots of control over exactly what cars are allowed to race and the racing rules... while still being somewhat user-friendly :P
i've never played forza online so i don't know if things like this have already been implemented. i guess gt4 online will give us some more clues on how multiplayer will be sorted out :).

I want to clarify this a bit more and offer up my inspiration for this topic. I love Gran Turismo and loved the formula. I'm probably not as intense or hateful as most people are about this game. So when I hear of people saying or typing that GT_ is an upgraded GT_, I'm just really wondering what would it take so that not as many people would say such a thing when the next GT comes out.

Let me provide an alternative example. I recently picked up "Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories" now available for the PS2. Most of what I remember from GTA3 is there and in lovlier detail. Even though most of the game seems more like a hybrid of "GTA3" and "GTA: Vice City," it still feels marginally different. I do sort of wished I could have been someone as C.J. out of "GTA: San Andreas." There were new missions for this new-age Liberty City, but I still think many of the missions are more accomplishable than GTA3 or even Vice City. One kid I talked to (yes, he was a kid) said that San Andreas was too easy. I think the game can still be a challenging game if you actually accept the challenge level. A dedication to play through GTA:LCS got me to Staunton Island so far (by the way, I hate how the "Welcome to ___" screens are still around. It was a welcome treat to not see these screens in GTA: San Andreas). Even at times, I do tend to think that this game is basically a hybrid of GTA3 and Vice City bringing little to the table except a few new cars and bikes.

Time for me to be be a bit motivational here. All of this is just what I've been thinking of with this thread in mind. I know how picky and critical some people can be. So I wanted to be brave enough just to ask what it is would make people happy in terms of this game being different from any other GT. It's much like how my love of the MegaMan series is like my love of the Gran Turismo series. Both games feature an enhanced formula in each game in at least some fashion. Sliding in MegaMan 3 is to rally racing in GT2. The Mega Buster in MegaMan 4 is to Formula One cars in GT3. Games will introduce new features for sequels. The key here is to give old fans what they want, but give a new-school formula or a different twist to make the sequel fresh. Let people say that the game formula is getting old. If it is getting old, I want to know what it is that would make the game that I (and many others) love to make it better for other people. People make games what they are. But it's also people who can help mold the better game. I remembered reading a comment about how three people can make a great racing game, but 80-something people can't even cash in on making a greater racing game. You do the math. Three people who make Live for Speed. Eighty-plus people who put in their hardest efforts to make Gran Turismo hotter than Jessica Alba. And here we are- 80,000+ GTPlanet members who love (or maybe hate) the Gran Turismo series, yet our voice counts as much as any other voice in known space. When I say I'm a People Person, I actually do read and listen to people's comments about games and things I like. I don't work for PD. Do I work for the Tokyo-based Polyphony Digital? Am I a representative of Sony Computer Entertainment? No and no (though I'd love to visit Tokyo (as well as the rest of Japan) one day). I am just a regular gamer just like many of you. Our voices do get heard online on message boards like this one. Who would have known that a 1990 Fiat Panda would be available to buy in GT4? I talked all the time about Bentley winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans five times in the first ten years. Well guess what? I saw that exact quote mentioned in the scrolling text about Bentley. People wanted Nürburgring Nordschleife in GT4 (which accounts for my mutiple losses), and we got it. So your voices do get heard even if we're limited to text and pictures. You want to make a better GT? This is one of my threads in which to do so in addition to many others. It doesn't mean your wish is PD's command. But it also doesn't mean that you can't help offer any suggestions, even if PD or SCE doesn't pick them up and use that advice.

Having said this motivational deal, let's build a better GT for GT5. Let's limit as many negative comments as possible with a game many more of us can actually enjoy. How we can do that is up to you. We're an underground gaming culture, so let's go ABOVE ground and let people know what time it is! You dig me, players? So keep this thread moving!

Let me see if I can remember all the things I'd been asking for and make it concise... and as you know, I don't think the formula is stale or broken in the least, but let me see if I can be a critic as well as a fanboy.

This is a next gen game on a SERIOUSLY next gen system, so let there be few limits. Put in as much of the old Gran Turismos in this game as possible, along with as much of real world racing as there can reasoably be.

FOUR MODES OF PLAY
- Arcade Mode
- Gran Turismo Mode
- Season and Career Mode

OPTIONS, OVERALL AND IN MODE
- Music tracks from previous versions of Gran Turismo, including tracks from all regions, as well as new playlists. The ability to add music from your own library or computer, or downloaded from the internet in any audio format.
- Real time passage of time. Weather based on real world models with the exception of rainouts and severe weather. Ability to override race conditions and time of day.
- Damage, with at least a scale of None, Moderate, and Simulation.
- A.I. racers based on real world racers, with individual traits and tactics, which also improve through the season with you in Season or Career Mode.
- Optional Race Rules which are based on real race courses and leagues.
- Season and Career Mode based on real racing leagues and classes, from enthusiast leagues like America's SCCA to Touring Car, GT/GTS, Rally, LeMans, Formula 1, etc, with full racing rules and restrictions.
- The opportunity to create your own racing team, complete with your own racing graphics for cars and uniforms.
- Race Generator returning from GT2 for Arcade and Gran Turismo Mode, but with even more comprehensive features and definitions.
- Photo Mode available in all modes during replays, as well as its own, with a greatly increased selection of settings and special effects like blurring and placeable colored lasers.

CARS AND TRACKS
- More cars than ever. All the cars from the previous editions, with new cars from America and Europe.
- Tracks from previous versions of Gran Turismo, as well as new race courses, both real and fantasy.
- Road courses, city courses, point to point, down/uphill mountain courses, with rally versions.
- Car components licensed from real automotive companies, modelled to incredible detail, from tires and suspensions, brakes and drivetrains, turbos and exhausts. Even oils and fluids! Engine swaps.
- Body kits, licensed from real kit makers, which enhance performance as well as looks.
- A paint shop with every feature you could want in a graphic creator, equipping you with all the tools to create a custom paint job to be admired. The ability to paint any surface of the car, including wheels, rims and windows. Provided decals for all the performance mod makers.
- A full racing conversion utility. With enough money, turn any car into a high performance race car, provided the basic car meets the requirements of the league you want to enter it in.

SEASON AND CAREER MODE
- Career Mode begins in an enthusiast semi-pro league modelled on America's Sports Car Club of America, while Season Mode provides a league of your choice.
- A range of racing teams to choose from at the start, giving you certain opportunities and bonuses, as well as penalties.
- Full season and track rules laid out before you race. Realistic penalties for violations.
- Race for points, cash prizes, as well as for sponsorships. Optional simulated qualifying.
- Full stat tracking, as well as a comprehensive, easy to understand telemetry system to help you fine tune your car, as well as your racing techniques.
- A virtual crew chief which will suggest car setups before each race, as well as advice on changes.
- Rivalries develop between you and certain drivers, requiring more skill and effort from you to beat them.
- Opportunities after the completion of a season or two to start your own team from scratch, hiring your own crew, as well as a driver to team with.
- He who finishes with the most points wins! With additional rewards for good driving and sportsmanship, fan appreciation, as well as pit crew performance.

I'm sure there's more to think about, but it's really late! :P

Gran Turismo 5

Should continue on where GT4 left off and continue to be a who's who's of car makes and manufactors from the very beginning to current day. With one major change. The goal should be to include as many cars from across the globe and decades as possible, but for God sakes that does not mean isolate the makes from each other like GT4 has done. What am I talking about you might be asking. I mean that for the most parts race restrictions should not be limited by country. To me that is one of the worst parts of GT4, it really limits how many race events your car can enter. This is okay for manufactor events, but the majority of the events should not be limited by country. Lots of post talk about which car is the best etc. for its classification, well to help with that I would like to see race events designed to let the players decide for their selfs and not in just theory. Hey what if they actually had events that actually was designed to enhance the car testing experience. Say pick tracks, set no. of laps, allow you to pick cars ( including from your garage ), set your own handicaps if needed, your own event restrictions to aid in choosing cars etc. At the end of the testing the game would generate a wide variaty of reports based on the test/race results, the reports could then be saved or printed out.
Back on topic, the next GT should really continue to expand to showcase the greatest collection of vehicles on wheels. What cars get a ticket to the show, I would say cars that sell the most ( meaning give the best chance to have cars that people own in the game ). Cars that are in limited numbers, give people a chance to drive the dream cars. One place that GT can excell at is classic cars from the years gone by. Classic race cars is another area that should recieve high focus and attention. Include as much car info as possible.
Photo mode in GT4 is great, they need to really expand that next time. Ways to do that many more photo locations or as I have mentioned else where a true photo drive fictional drive. Give us at least 50 miles with as much scenery as possible. Parking lots and let us place as many cars as we want for photo shoot. Instead of just replay mode, include highlite reals ( major crashes, winning passes etc. ) this could be short video clips or just still photos. Use photo's for menu backgrounds.
Trucks was a big surprise in GT4, and I think it works. Lets expand this some more, include maybe as many as 100 differnt trucks or more, classic trucks etc. Another great way to celebrate automotive history.
If they can get those famous makes in, especially the historical versions and race versions it would really go along way in completing the book.
I am at a crossroads, desperatly wanting more of a race expierence, but then again the amazing number of cars and graphics along with great tracks is very hard to say no to. In the end GT has a great formula and a winning one at that. All things that are great have the capabilities of expanding and bringing something new to the table and the truly great manage to do this in ways that leave the competition stunned.

if you were to buy a car- you had options of the sport upgrades and so on-sports exhaust, aero dynamic kits- a choice of the manufacturer's rims. and so on

I had to add a couple of things, completely forgot about the race event generator in GT2 and Photo Mode, gah! And there's so much more to think about with a game of the scope of Gran Turismo 5, such as a trainable Drivatar like Forza has.

I'm about to run off and grab Toca 3 for yet another taste of what I hope to see in GT5. After reading and watching videos for two months, darn if it doesn't sound awesome. Hopefully it'll be more of a delight than a chore. :P

Here was an indirect quote regarding Photos in PGR3:

(indirect? quote) "...Unlike the crappy Photo Mode in GT4, you can take pictures at ANY TIME in PGR3..."

Maybe GT5 can be slightly different in this respect. I was thinking about maybe a few things to actually make GT5 a bit more different. You know how many people say that Gran Turismo fails in the racing department? I think many of the Championship Series can have options to remind you of many different championship scenarios at any time. Both ToCA Race Drivers 2 and 3 had this look-ahead into the championship. You even check championship standings to know what it is you have to do to win. For example, "I need to make sure xxxxxxxx yyyyyyyy doesn't win. I don't have to win, but I have to finish ahead of xxxxxxxx yyyyyyyy and place no higher than ##." It would give you a little more emphasis in championships.

I can't think of too much more right now. Not too many ideas right about now. So carry on, boys and girls.

You can take everything Tenaciou D posted and add these couple and i wouldn't complain once.
1. Full car fields, that means depending on the style of racing you join/create/enter/ you get anywhere from 20-44+ opponent cars to race.
2. Multisystem link for offline players to stll hve human competition with the full field of CPU cars added as well, not just one on one or two on two etc.
3. Better more accurate and in-depth tuning to go along with the "race tune" Tenacious posted.
EXAMPLE (say you take a Ford mustang or miata and you want to enter a certain class, well you get certain tuning restrictions as far as aving and being able to upgrade your car. From there you then have to decide on which combination of tuning parts to purchase/use as real world parts differ/offer different performance enhancements.
Then once that car has been "upgraded" you can't remove said upgrades, otherwords, make it permanent that way you would really have to consider how far you want to take your car. Do you want to stay in the light tuning but more fun for just simple racing or do you want to really go all out and go full mod forthe hardcore racing scene.
4.The option of also having multiplayer races that affect your career stats.
Then if your racing your friends you also have to watch outforthem as you want first place for points and cash but know they do as well, along with watchin the A.I.
5. More realistic/accurate engine/exhaust/tires/etc sounds.
6. A hardcore SIM mode where everything is as accurate and real as possible for those that want it. None of this "we want it accurate but accesible crap"
you can't have it be real but accesible, therefore adding a hardcore real mode that is as unforgiving on the learning curve to truly make you feel like your in a car. Add this one after adding a very much upgraded physics engine.
7. Fully adjustable and rotatable/scaleble camera angles, with an setting option to fix them in the place YOU want them in, then use them as your "set" camera views instead of using what's given.
8. Like another poster mentioned, have the cash for cars, upgrades, won races be more realistic. Including resale value.
Having what Tenacious D posted and these options would give the lackluster GT series the breath of fresh air it desperately needs and i would be a happy consumer again.

there are a few things I would like to see

1: I would like to see in the game like you do in some real races where there is multi-classes on the track at the same time in which you compete in the class of the car but there will be faster and slower cars to consider as you are driving.

2: I truelly enjoyed the endurance races however in a 24 hour race it really should get dark, also I think there should be consideration for endurance races like those off road i.e baja 500 Paris to Ciaro etc.

3: I would like the screen to display more correctly while you are driving it seems that when you are behind the wheel at times you are speeding down a side street in your own town and when you watch the replay it is like forever wide, and it makes you ask why wasn't I on that track

4: I do agree there needs to be a place to where we can do some paint work I do recall in GT1 that when you made all the tunings on the car and in the final stages of weight reduction it actually applied a race type graphic to your vehicle, there shouldn't be anything to elaberate but a few skin choices and choose a number based off class and like 1-200 abcd etc.
