Ok, since I like all 3 types of engines, I am gong to see what kind of engines you guys like.

PS Just imagine this engine was going to go in an FR 2 door car weighing 3,000lbs

Engine #1: 32V DOHC 2.8L Twin Turbo Inline-6 Cyl. with 370hp @ 6,400rpm

Engine #2: 32V DOHC 3.5L V6 w/variable valve timing with 370hp @ 9,100rpm

Engine #3: 16V OHV 6.0L V8 370hp @ 5,000rpm

The Twin Turbo straight six.
Vroooom, *tssshhhhh*, vrrrrrroooommmm [repeat, etc]
Although all three have advantages [no doubt a rotorhead will complain and the be-loved wankel being missed out...] but I'd go for the I6 TT, due to personal preference. And two easily upgradable turbos!

I like the idea of a V-6 being modified to keep up the a V-8, and a turbo. It seems like the in between.

I have a 4.3 V-6, and I have talked to a few people that have theres pushing 400hp. Not bad in a lightweight pickup. :D

ditto. :D except i want a huge single airdryer and a massive shot of nitrous to spool it up.

Had I put more thought into this poll, I would have added these choices:

Twin Turbo 2 Rotor 370hp this seems kind of unlikely in a production car, so maybe 3 rotors would have to do.

5.4L V12 SOHC 370hp

3.0L V6 Supercharged 370hp

Single Turbo DOHC Inline 4 cyl 2.4L 370hp

thats one underpowered 6 litre V8. here, the HSV GTS has a 404hp N/A 5.7 litre pushrod V8.

id still that a V8 over anything :D

Unless I am drawing a complete blank; Honda has never had an Inline 6 or a Turbo motor. The closest is the Acura Vigors Inline 5 cylinder. But theyve never had a Turbo or a Supercharger.

It is important not to associate the type of engine with a manufacturer or else the poll becomes Bias.

Oh, and Robin, the 5.7L V8 you are comparing, is at the cutting edge of OHV engine technology. In North America we have a 6.0L with 245hp and an 8.1L with 340hp mind you those are truck engines.

But the 6.0L V8 in my poll has a better hp/l than the Corvette's V8 here in North America. Or the Camaro, Firebird AND the Mustang GT V8's, including the 2003 Viper's V10! So I would hardly call that underpowered. Atleast not for a primitive OHV engine setup.

If Honda made a 6.0L V8 in the same fashion as their VTEC motors it could have 720hp @ 8,900rpm!!! Whatever car that came in, it would be my all time favourite car!!!

course its at the cutting edge, its a holden block :)

as for the truck donks, theyd be diesels right?

The 5.7L V8 you are talking about is in the Corvette Z06 here, and I doubt it was designed by the Australians! Although maybe.

Those truck engines are not diesels. As far as I know.

Here is a website with a short rundown on the truck I was talking about. Check out the gas Mileage on the 8.1L!!!

Yeah - the 8.1 is a diesel (Ford), at least; I think the 6.0L is the Ram's engine, and it's brand new so I'm not sure if it's a diesel or not.

12sec. Civic - I was just making a reference to the fact that it was high-revving and seemed a little boy-racerish. ;) I wasn't talking about the engine itself.

One that runs.
Actually, I'd take a V8 in a C5R anyday. I bet it gets poor gas milege on account that its the racing version of a corvette though.

Right off the bat, none of these will do for me. I don't like the feel of any VVT (even Porsche's), and that V6 is just too revvy for everyday use. Superchargers I feel are only good on larger displacement engines. Why? The engines loses too much trying to spin the turbine (or twin-screws), and thus a V8 or V12 would be more suitable (more momentum in reserve). And that V12 is way too underpowered. Substitute "V12" for "V8" and you've got a nice AMG engine there, but those extra 4 cylinders make for a RR-stodgy slow-witted engine.

Twin Turbo 2 Rotor 370hp
32V DOHC 2.8L Twin Turbo Inline-6 Cyl. with 370hp @ 6,400rpm
16V OHV 6.0L V8 370hp @ 5,000rpm
Single Turbo DOHC Inline 4 cyl 2.4L 370hp

Rotoray's rule. Period. I'd rather the single turbo, but sequential/twin isn't a bad idea either. Of course, anything resembling the RB26DETT gets an instant okay from me. The V8 may be a little too low-end for me, but if that's stock levels, then it would make for a good luxury car. Nothing sporty, but certainly wafty. Lastly, that 2.4L i-4 would melt tires once a week. In a good way. I can't imagine it being all that great at idle, but launches could slingshot whatever small car it's in.

Overall, the twin-turbo inline 6 gets my top vote. It's so flexible, and so potent.

As the saga continues......

Option2 begins ANOTHER second page.

...will this phennomena continue?

The world may never know.

Yeah - can't wait for the flat 6 to end up with a manual trans and in the Liberty/Legacy.

I love motors that rev - something about the response of rolling on and off the throttle at high revs....mmm....

going from the senators V8 donk to a 4 cyl pajero donk is quite a shock. from having the grunt to wind out 4th gear in a roll on to hearing the car struggle in a 4th gear roll on. now i drive the 60km/h speed limit in 3rd gear. much better response if you want pick up.

id recommend anyone with a low output 4cyl to do the same.

ah, the S2000 problem. NO TORQUE!

Well, if that 3.5L had the same Torque/litre as an S2000 it would have 271 ft-lbs. That is alot more than alot of cars I know. People say that Honda engines have no torque because they compare it to the Hp. Compare the S2000's 155TQ to that of any other NA 2.0L You wont get any where near that.

but the S2000 sucks because you have to rev the absolute piss out of it to go hard. V8's dont need to be revved hard to go hard.

V8's own. Both in sound and in class..... I saw an RX-3 or 7, I cant tell the difference but it was small and blue, it had a V8 in it. It dropped a burnout around a corner, only one wheel was spinning, no LSD. I saw it sitting there and thought "Cool a rotary" But it wasnt loud enough (it had a rumbly idle, but not a rotary idle) and then when he floored it I knew it was a V8. Its number plate was RXDV8. Pretty kool. I like rotaries though, second to a V8 of course.....
