Just bought on iTunes today:

  • Hollow Moon - AWOLNATION
  • Heavy Is the Head (featuring Chris Cornell) - Zac Brown Band
  • Bent To Fly - Slash w/ Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators
  • This Probably Won't End Well - All That Remains
  • Absolution Calling - Incubus
  • I Wanna Know - KONGOS
  • Angel - Theory of a Deadman
  • Feels Like Forever (Acoustic) - Of Mice & Men

I've gotten back into a little more aggressive buying as I have some spending money now.

From Amazon:

Anthrax - Spreading the Disease (1985)
B.B. King - Deuces Wild (1997)
Buffalo Springfield - Buffalo Springfield (1966)
Freddie King - Texas Cannonball (1972)
Megadeth - Cryptic Writings (1997)
Nightwish - Once (2004)
Nightwish - Endless Forms Most Beautiful (2015)

From my record store/Half Priced Books trip:

Coverdale Page - Coverdale Page (1993)
The Cranberries - No Need to Argue (1994)
Genesis - We Can't Dance (1991)
Hurt - Vol. 1 (2006)
Jethro Tull - Aqualung (1971)

Only the last two are from the record store as I just found out it was there and was just checking it out. Also, I only got the Cranberries album because it was on clearance for $1 and figured it had Zombie on it so why not.

I picked up the Gentle Storm from Dutch genius Arjen Antony Lucassen 👍

2 discs with same arrangements but one calm and gentle and the other side is more stormy :D

I went to the record store this afternoon, decided it was time to head back to 1977 and fill some gaps in my CD collection. To me, 1977 is when the 1980s really began musically. First albums by Wire, The Ramones, The Clash, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, the Buzzcocks, Cheap Trick and so many more all came out that year and totally changed rock.

Found this at a local thrift store for 3 bucks (it was sealed). Buying it was a no brainer.

Not an album, but last week I was at the Devilskin concert at The Borderline in London. Best concert I have ever been to and the sound quality was simply exquisite. Met the band and had a lovely chat with my kiwi compatriots all while they signed my merch and took pictures with me.

I went to Easy Street Records today, picked up a few things. Almost all of these were used. The Elvis Costello CD is the Ryko release, to go with my Rhino release. The B-52's set is all 5 of their first albums for just $25. I've already listened to the Psychedelic Furs. I forgot just how 1984 it sounds. The production on this CD is a perfect example of how timely, up-to-the-minute arrangements can completely date a record, making it sound like a product of its time rather than timeless.

Blur - The Magic Whip

I just picked this up:
Is this his new album? I don't think I've ever bought any Gallagher brothers CD Post-Oasis. I have sampled couple songs here & there, but I just wasn't feeling it. Oasis stuff, I have every album, singles & some bootlegs. To be honest, I'm surprised to see "High Flying Birds" name in some article the other day. I didn't think they'd last this long.

Indeed it is. I have both of Liam's, via Beady Eye, and Noel's post Oasis stuff. I also have every Oasis album and some singles. I really need to start hunting for more singles, as I just discovered Idler's Dream and Let's All Make Believe B-Sides.

I bought the new Dr Dre album on iTunes a few days ago, it's an amazing album despite being feature heavy like all of his albums, such a shame that this is his last album. :(

I just got that today. Took a slow drive through Compton on my way home listening to it. The two Comptons couldn't be much more different, though. Our Compton has a Tesco garage, a pasty shop and a pharmacy and that's it.

I recently picked up quite a few albums:
  • Michael Jackson - Bad
  • Dr. Dre - 2001
  • Dr. Dre - Compton
  • OutKast - Stankonia
  • OutKast - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below
  • Rush - Chronicles
  • Queen - Greatest Hits
  • Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
  • Rage Against the Machine - The Battle of Los Angeles
  • Rage Against the Machine - Evil Empire
  • Rage Against the Machine - Renegades
  • Prince - Purple Rain
  • Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy
  • Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill
  • Beastie Boys - Check Your Head

Are you familiar with CHVRCHES? (I don't want to give you a review if you have no clue who/what I'm talking about.)

The first album was probably one of my favorites of the year it came out. The first single off the new album didn't do much for me, though.

Oh yeah, Bones is pretty high up there on my list of favorites.

So, Every Open Eye. Compared to The Bones of What You Believe, it is more energetic. EOE really has more of a party/pop feel to it in general. (Most) of the songs this time around are very catchy. Lauren seems more "open" in EOE as heard by her vocals. Martin has also improved his singing I'd say. As usual, the synths are topnotch but have more of a polished feel to them unlike the slightly gritty feeling ones in Bones. The album's Special Edition songs are worth it too if you do purchase it. In general, Bones feels like an album revolving darkness/anger while EOE focuses more on the happy times.

About Leave a Trace: It is a so-so single in my opinion. I tried to really like it after multiple listens but I just can't get that to happen. Not to say that it's a bad song, but it doesn't attract me to it as much as the other songs do.

I haven't done much music buying recently. What with subscribing to iTunes streaming music service, it just hasn't been as necessary as it once was. Still, there are some things that just have to be in the collection, or simply aren't available any other way. The two Summers/Fripp albums are indispensable and replace LPs and cassettes I previously bought 30+ years ago. The Shaggs is something a friend hipped me to recently. This might be the worst album I've ever bought. It might also be the best album I've ever bought. It's definitely the most surreal album I've ever bought. Finally, the first Red House Painters album, Down Colorful Hill, released on 4AD Records, the greatest record label ever.
