Amongst other things like the formation of Daimler-Chrysler and the sonking of the Lusitania, an event that eventually brings the USA into WWI.

Lots of battles on this date, but I guess the two most notable events are:

  • 1914 –Franz Ferdinand, Archduke of Austria and his wife are assassinated in Sarajevo by Bosnia Serb nationalist Gavrilo Princip.
  • 1919– The Treaty of Versailles is signed in Paris, bringing fighting to an end between Germany and the Allies.

So according to Wikipedia...

  • A hurricane in the Caribbean killed 20,000-30,000
  • Over 300 people died in the Great Chicago Fire
  • 800 Gypsy children were killed in the Holocaust
  • 3,500 people died in an earthquake in El Asnam, Algeria
  • 1,500 people died in an earthquake in San Salvador, El Salvador
  • A plane crashed in Uraguay killing 74
  • Another plane was shot down in the DRC, killing 41
  • The Orakzai Bombing killed 110

But the International Space Treaty, that stops countries putting WMDs on the moon was signed, so I have that going for me.

"In 1937, the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 is passed in America, the effect of which is to render marijuana and all its by-products illegal." I promise you, I had nothing to do with this.

I'm also quite disappointed that no one famous died on my birthday meaning that I can't claim to be their reincarnated spirit and thus get all their royalties and inheritance.
You've got a Porsche, isn't that enough?
