There are several out there, and I think most people would agree, there has never been a perfect racing game/sim, ever, and some say there never will be (idk about that myself).
But keeping that in mind, GT5, as great as it is, still has so many flaws, even after 4 previous games of experience.

What can/should it take from other games? This is intentionally open ended because there are so many specific threads about 'improve the upgrades' ect.

Is there stuff that is good and/or unique to those games that should stay? How do you learn from competitors, without blantently ripping them off?

So this thread is designed to be like 'You know one thing I really love about FZ4 is the tire pressure system' or 'Yeah, I think GT5 still has the best LSD physics, so I don't want that to be removed/changed' (making these up, I have no idea if it does or not).

There's nothing wrong with "ripping off" the competition. A good idea is a good idea, even if it's the other guys that do it first. If you create a car company, you don't need to go with square wheels or using five wheels instead of four just because the other guys already used four round wheels.

Hahaha, funny.

But in seriousness, think of specific items that you've seen that you feel 'yeah, that should really be in GT6 from...' game.

Well all of the ideas/features are currently being discussed in their own thread. Just look at the most recent 20 threads or so in the GT6 forum.

-i-racing, rfactor etc... physics
-codmasters ai
-ntg2011 replay system
-forza cars (hard to do cause of licenses)
-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKB8JECJ0ko graphics
-cross between codmasters, gt5 and nascar 09 damage
-ntg2011, gt5 and iracing rfactor etc.. tuning
-ntg2011 costomozation (decals)
-nfs shift 2 unleashed and forza 4 costomozation(body kits, rims etc...)
-ferrari challenge (go back to the past)
-ability to put avatar into older style racing clothing
edit:-f1 2011 ability to drive when safety car is on track (if cautions are implemented into gt6)
-codemasters abililty to blow up engine
-codemasters ability to total your car
-iracing rfactor etc.. ability to drive down pit road without a computer driving

all i can think of for know

So you like Nascar The Game 2011, right? I suppose there had to be someone although I'm amazed you think the simple decal editor in that game is better than the livery editor in Forza.

i dont own forza so idk what its like everything on here about forza is just stuff ive heard

(ntg2011) i dont really like the game all it is is a glitchy hell whole:tdown: but it as good options:tup:

I think GT should build up on their formula. They should not try to be like another game. Reinventing all the time, like NFS does, is also wrong.

They should try to improve the core. The things that made GT special. Physics, graphics and the a-spec mode. But then they should also add features like rewind, livery editor and other features that are common in the latest racing games.

Online they have a pretty nice netcode and lobbysystem. But it is crippled by the PSN. Lets face it, the PSN is nowhere as stabile as Xbox Live or pc networking. I hope that Sony improves this part with the next generation.

They also should put a value on the cars, so that you dont have 1000 cars in your garage and only use like 10-20. Its like beeing a spoiled kid that has hundres of matchbox cars. You have so many, that it becomes boring at times.

tokyo xtreme racer drift 2

authentic touge roads
much better wheel force feedback during drifting
more weather effects with less confusing finding the course
better tuning options(steering angles, ebrake strength, engine brand compatibilities, rim sizes, etc)
sp battle
better drift scoring(flawed but atleast u're rewarded for better angle, rather than just being on race line)
1st gen rx-7, sa22c
fan made anime series based on it.

racing battle c1gp
T1 circuit
c1 loop turned into a ciruit road
sp battle like classic txr games, but can challenge any car, including unnamed cars, on courses like suzuka, tsukuba, etc
a txr3 like paint edit mode where u can use an eye toy, to take pics and upload them as vinyl

Live for speed: physics, FFB, realistic clutch and gear change, ability to add objects and different start and finish points to a track, tuning having realistic affect on car.

Forza/ NFS: Car styling and tuning options.

The Need for Speed: point to point tracks.

GT 4: Ability to put all wheels on all cars

If this is next-gen, and the online supports more cars, with Gt6 multi-class racing is a must. Forza has it, iRacing obviously has it.
It's simple, but would greatly add to gameplay.

first they have to get ai to be proper before they put multi class racing in the game

Where can I find more people like you?👍

Well the best of each in my case:

From rFactor 2:

-physics/aerodynamics
-tyre model/deformation. (degradation in real time with VISUAL DAMAGE)
-accumulation of rubber "outside" the race line (dynamic)
-dynamic "dry line" after rain (depending where the cars are passing)

From GSC 2012:

-physics
-FFB

From iRacing:

-physics
-FFB
-Laser scanned tracks

From Race07/GTR Evolution:

-flag regulations in real time (blue flags, etc)
-spotter (someone telling you what is happening and giving you advices)
-real features from the real world racing leagues/championships (practice/qualifying)
-weather and day cycles in all tracks (GT5 is quite similar but not in all tracks)
-getting dirty (wind-shield, or in open wheel cars helmet visor gets dirty, bugs hitting and dust -you can remove your visor layer or use your wipers for the wind-shield)
-mechanical failures
-ENGINE SOUNDS
-AI

From Race Driver Grid:

-damage model
-from career mode: ·creation of teams (with a team-mate -AI or in online mode)
·publishers to gain more money/credits depending the race result
·livery editor

From pCARS:

-test track (quite similar to Nardo Test track)

From Forza 4 (hell, why not?):

-livery editor
-car list

I've found that pretty much every other game has a better chase camera location than GT3/4/5. Gran Turismo, in my opinion, needs two chase cameras, like what was available in GT1 and GT2. Another thing about GT5 is that the chase camera is glued to the rear of the car, which is off-putting. The car doesn't turn relative to the camera location, whereas in past GT games the car would turn about 10 degrees relative to the rear of the car. It took me a while before I stopped finding that extremely off-putting.

I think the Forza Livery option is great, the Gran Turismo series definitely dropped the ball as far as car customisation goes after GT2.

Criterion Games models car damage much better than Polyphony Digital, as can be seen in recent NFS games, and all Burnout Games. There is no comparison between them and the smudge effect when a car is damaged on GT5.
