Whats with the Japanese cars?

Lol, its you again. :P
Everybody has their opinion and yours counts.
Oh, Id rather race a Japanese car in the Gt games than any of the American built cars with the exception of a very few. Most just dont compete with the Imports (European, Japanese, anything not made in America).

He he he, Look I'm only speaking from my own experience.
I've been around alot of muscle cars, and have been totaly
blown away by there awsome performance.
In the last 3-4 years quite a few 4 cylinder tuners have started
showing up at the track, and none have displayed the incredible
performance that so many here seem to swear by.

I'm not bashing japanese cars or any import car for that matter.
I'm just pointing out one constant that seems (in my driving exsperience) to have never changed, more displacement=more performance.
The penalties for poor handeling, are not as great as the penalties for low power. If you're talking about profesional racing yea, power is nothing without control, but I'm talking about regular, daily
driver cars, that ordnary joes want to give add more performance than what came from the factory. If that is what you're talking about, then understand this whatever gains can be gotten for a given amount of money invested in hi rev, 4 bang'in POS. With that same amount of money, greater gains will be seen on the muscle car.

Yeah, your right, but there are two sides of the coin too. ;)
These are all good arguments and are very valid in all respects.
Ive owned a '66 Buick Skylark 2 dr coupe and sure there was power, but the handling sucked. I tried everything to straighten out the handling and never could.
I think all the arguments would end if we could get some of the cars that arent here in America such sd the Skyline, the Aston Martins and many others to compete with these muscle cars.
Things would even out for sure and we Americans wouldnt be so closed minded to the other cars of the world that would just whip up on us if they had the chance.
Its America and the Government that wont let us Americans enjoy the world cars and all the performance they have to offer.
They are bringing the Skyline (G35 Infinity) to the US, but in a detuned state for the sake of emmissions. (sic)
They are bringing the Mitsu Evolution to the US, again in a detuned state. So how are we ever going to realize the potential of the great cars if the government keeps regulating what comes into this country.
I love the US, but their policies suck and we suffer for it.
Maybe Im making a point here or not, but Im trying.
I love imports, muscle cars or any car that can be made to go fast and handle good.
Now if we can get rid of the regulations, we would have some competition to see how good we really are. :D

 well said misnblu
Lets end this conflict shall we :)
I never said imports are better than muscles or that muscles are better than imports. it all depends on the type of performance your looking for. Some people like domestics while others like imports and thats ok. Its called an opinion. But just because you have a different opinion about something that doesnt mean you should rag on others' opinions. Such as afrodeeziac calling imports POS's. This thread probably should never have been made in the first place because its too controversial and people are expressing thier opinions just a little to strongly. Id have to admit im one of them and I apologize afrodeeziac for losing it somewhere in the 3rd page  Am I forgiven? :)

I subscribe to the magazine and love it.
As far as the ultimate street car, if it includes cars from overseas, Id have to pick the Skyline series first. Love the Skylines.
Ill let everyone else pic and read about it later.. Besides, I dont think Ive read that particular month yet. I subscribe to so many, I can only read so much. :D ;)
Ill have to check out the article when I get there.

Shes finally under the cover (car cover) again.
I finally got the daily driver Ford back on the road again so I can keep the cavy nice. I tell ya, its been hell on the cavy since it was used for daily driver. You should see all the rock chips Ive gotten in it since I had used it. Sucks.
If I wasnt so broke, Id be in the 14's (1/4 mile) right now with all the mods I want, but until I get out of the hole, she'll have to wait. ;)
One thing I gotta say, its definitely not as reliable as the old Honda used to be. :( Thanks goodness its a project car and not daily driven, I dont think it would hold up for those duties. lol
Hopefully by winter, Ill have some more dollars to invest in her for that extra speed. :D

Ah, that's too bad, the rock chips and all. What kind of mods you thinking about?
The mods I'm planning will give me the most gains with the ones I now have.
Going from 52-59mm throttlebody and changing the intake manifold to a 99 year model manifold. The 97 intake manifolds are only 56 mm in diameter and must be dremelled larger to fit the larger throttle body. Instead of doing all that, the '99 intake manifolds are 58.5 mm in diameter and require no enlarging of the opening to make the 59 mm tb work at its best.
This should yield about a .2 second drop in times compared to the stock tb.
High flow cat to get rid of the 2 inch restriction of the factory high flow cat. Its attached to the factory cat and cant be cut off so I must get a high flow with 2.5 inch openings on both ends. Ill probably go from the 2.25 inch exhaust I now have and go with a 2.5 inch as this has the best results with the mods I now have too.
BFGoodrich drag radials for the 14 inch rims Im using should drop another tenth or so off my times as Sport Compact Magazine has tested them. They had a .25 second drop on the car they were testing them on. Not bad. :D
If I can find an engine or even just a head for the car, Ill have it ported and polished, 3 angle valve job done to it for smoother flowing head. This should yield at least another 1 to 2 tenths.
With these mods added to the already big list I now have, I should run around 14.9-15.2 for sure. This has been my goal since Ive owned the car and is all motor.
Not bad for a z24 thats an automatic. :odd: :P :D
Then by next year, its laughing gas time for those stubborn people that just wont yield to my rear view mirror. lol
My goals, my dreams for sure and once Im done with the 97 z24, its full time restoration on my 86z24. :) Ive been delaying the 86 for the 97 to be complete. Ill then have the money to invest in the 86 for full restoration and about 200 or more hp to the wheels. Dont laugh, its true.
Misnblu

No, that is for the 1986 z24 Im restoring. It does have the 4 speed, but at about 70 mph, it just goes limp and is revving about 3200 grand, which is way too much.
Ill probably swap in a 5 speed from a second generation z24 for the '86.
Oh, sorry for the long post above. hehe
YOU wanted to KNOW. lol :D
Thanks man.

Well, considering Im not married, have no kids that I know about, Ive got plenty of time for these things. ;)

Whew....just finished reading all the replies, and all i have to say is, ive heard too much arguing about what's better, american or japanese. Well, thats fine. I dont have a favorite, both deserve respect. But this was supposed to be about the fact that there are too many Japanese cars. I say should have used car sections for all companies. Japanese cars kik ass, and so do american cars. But here's where ppl are gonna obviously get a little pissed with me. I must say that Japanese cars have pulled off a bit too much intrusion in drag racing. American cars are built for the strip, not the circuit, though they can still handle well, as long as you know what to do with them....For instance the Cobra R, 1.0G in the skidpad. And for all you people that think NASCAR is the best representative of American cars and their stregths, you're wrong. Its not. Watching a Trans-Am series car go up against one of those cars from the Japanese racing series like the TOM's Supra would be great. But anyways, im going off-topic. Back to Drag Racing. American cars, and i dont give a fat phuck what people say about this, are better for drag racing, and this is where the Japanese cars turn into real posers. The fast and the Furious clearly demonstrated that a large portion of the import market is forcused on drag racing. Well, imports have a long way to go before they ever make it to American standards. How often do you see the most popular Japanese car, which is the civic, pull over 400HP using street legal parts? Lets take a popular American sports car, the Mustang. Let's see. a V-8, 4.6 liters, 320HP stock, at least for the Cobra. And now lets flip through one of those Mustang mags. Wow, look at al of these possible upgrades! Heck, take a Stock Cobra and Supercharge it with a Vortech Supercharger kit, and smack. 500HP, no questions asked. Far more than a Civic can ever dream of. Ok, i know what you're thinking. "What a little bastard! Why dont you concider a Supra, or,or a Skyline?!" Well, why dont you just shutup and look at the god damned price. Case closed. Dont get me wrong I still like Japanese cars, and their handling is second to none, but for crying out ****ing loud, stop embarrasing yourself at the dragstrips! Ok, I'm finished. You can go ahead and write your hate letters now.

Nothing wrong with your point of view.
Ill have a rebuttal later when I have more time. ;)
