What's wrong at PD?

I don't know what GT series you have been playing, but GT5 handily exceeded nearly every standard set by GT4, and any other GT for that matter. And now that GT6 updates are back on track, it probably won't be long until the bar is raised again. Take off the nostalgia goggles.

GT5 career mode is can I say it? (Don't be offended Kaz)
GT5 career mode is a JOKE compared to GT4 career mode.

And don't even let me start talking about tracks like El Capitan.

That is why I said NEARLY. But, you can still dump several hundred hours into the career mode (special events included), and with online and the seasonal events, GT5 is not lacking in things to do. Sure, the main career is shorter than previous GTs, but with online features, it really didn't need to be that long anyways.

Same could be said for tracks. Some tracks were lost, but we also got several new tracks PLUS a course creator.

Of course you can, but is it fun?
Do I need to compare it with the fun I had in GT4 (and I was with a gamepad not a wheel) ?
Online is good and everything but "career mode" for me is and always will be the offline part of the game.

I had a pretty good time with the career mode. Actually, I had more fun with the GT5 events than I did with GT3 (I got GT4 after GT5, so I didn't get to dive too deep into the career mode before 6 released). I have never played with a wheel at all, so I can't really make any sort of comparison there. Offline is definitely fun, and I am glad they improved it further for GT6, but online really is the future.

Just my opinion, I love GT series and I believe it has a huge potential for the future, but I gotta be honest about the present time.
The problem is that GT5 and GT6 almost stopped in time, while other franchises have grown greatly.
For its generation, GT4 was ahead of its time, unlike GT5/6. GT on PS3 is an unbalanced game with stunning modeling for some cars and bad aliasing, shadows and even worse sounds among ps2 cars and tracks. The AI... well, no need to prolong on this.
It seems that they were aiming to do something like 3 steps ahead of what the ps3 is capable of, and ended up making it 4 steps backwards.

5 was not deep enough offline. The tracks are the tracks, so I'm not worried about that. But with 5 going offline, there's not much of a reason to play it.... Plus, with A and B spec separate, it's an annoying thing to play.

It's very subjective; I still think GT3 is the best GT of all time. And no, this isn't nostalgia talking as I still play it today :D

GT5 DID improve many aspects of the series, yes, and it had an awesomely long life span! But I think it also fell behind in some ways. Like other members have pointed out, they've been using pretty much a slight variation of the same formula to create the careers of each game. It grows old after a while.
I also love the selection of cars; even with the duplicates taken away there's still a huge choice. But both GT5 and GT6 have under-utilized many. You can win the career mode and race in most online lobbies with a small fraction of the cars in the game. I've only used 30 in total for anything other than hot-lapping.

To be honest, though, it does depend on when someone entered the series. If you've been playing since PS1/early PS2, the cynicism of this forum starts to make sense x: If you started GT4/GT5/GT6, the newer games WILL seem great - and they really are! But there are problems and any fan of the series would want them addressed to get that "bar raised again"! :)

To address the OP: personally I wouldn't say there's anything "wrong" at PD; they're still making games that people enjoy playing! It's more of a lack of innovation in some areas and too much in others. I feel they're over-doing it in too many aspects of GT and neglecting the little things.

So really, what I'd want to ask PD is whether or not the future of Gran Turismo will see it "re-inventing" itself in terms of its structure in career/utilizing of licenses/etc.
