Whats your maximum resolution?

I need a new monitor. It can only support 1024x768 or lower. My vid card can go higher but the monitor is holding me back.

I strongly suggest a 19" flat glass Trinitron monitor. I payed about $350 each for my three and all of them are bad ass.

Ha ha ha, NEVERMIND! Sony doesn't even make a CRT smaller than 21" anymore. I origonally thought it was going to be 19" as the smallest CRT, but apparently those got dropped as well.

LCD, the wave of the future. When they get the refresh rate up comparable with CRT we'll see how they fare.

same here, my card supports up to 2048x1536 or so, just my damn lcd can only go to 10424x768

We've got an LCD on one of the puters over here, it supports 1280x960. Pretty dang snazzy looking. Only bad thing is, even though he video card can supoort that resolution(1280x940x24, maxed out), it's a 4mb onboard card. So, it's pretty dang ugly to look at.
I must say, those LCDs have a beautiful picture on them.

They've definitely gotten better in the past year or so. I'm still not impressed with the refresh rates, though. I just looked at a 21" NEC that does 1600 x 1200 but the refresh rate is 60hz. SIXTY! That's pathetic. My CRT is currently doing 85hz at the same res, and can do higher resolution and refresh ratewith a better card. And a year ago it cost 1/5 the price of the LCD today.

I guess for the average Joe Schmoe the lower quality LCDs are getting the job done. But for anyone requiring performance, forget it. LCD isn't there yet. I say it's got about another five years of developement.

My computer is currently running at 1280x1024, and thats as much as my monitor can support (if i read correctly.) The monitor is a Samtron 76DF, flat screen (not flat panel.) It's a nice monitor, but the most i can get is 60hz at 1280x1024x32. It's a very clear, and the colors are very vivid.

Soon enough i will be getting an ATI All-In-Wonder Pro 9600. It'll be awesome. I'm very excited.. I should be getting it next weekend.

both my laptop (my only computor here in the dorm) and my video card (radeon mobility 9600) can do up to 1600x1200. but thats tooo dam tiny, so i use 1280x960 instead

Actually - The refresh rate of an LCD is not comparable to that of a CRT monitor.. The LCD is made up of tri color pixels going on and off - and the pixels stays lit as long as it's needed which is why it doesn't matter - on a CRT the canon has to keep the phosphor lit which is why refresh rate matters... Response time on an LCD OTOH is what needs to be lowered... Slow response time means screen lag (shadows) !... (I'm running 1600x1200x32 @ 60Hz on my 15" LCD on the laptop and it strains my eyes less than running 1600x1200x32 @ 85Hz on my IBM P96 19" (which is a rebadged Sony))

My 0.02€

I'd stick with 1024x 768 but go out sideways, do a LM and get multiple monitors. - Currently 1600 x 1200 32bit, this computer is 5 years old!

I'm using the 19" flat Trinitron w/1 f.w and 4 usb ports. I bought it from a local small business owner who used it for one month and decided to go with a large lcd for more desk space.

I payed $200 6 months ago. :)

Dude, that's AWESOME. I would love to have about six of these monitors, 2 x 3, all running max resolution. But then again, what would I do with all that desk space?

I'm running 1600x1200 @ 85Hz. It's a Sony 21" CRT.

I agree that TFT displays look the canine's cojones, but I can never get the contrast to work for me, and I find the sheer energy they use to generate enough contrast gives me a headache after a couple of hours.

I love my monitor. I would really like to get a dual-head card and have another one next to it.

Dual head? MATROX! I promis you won't 'be let down for superrior 2D dual-display performance. 3D, on the other hand, isn't their strong point. NVidia does pretty good 2D and dual-display, and their 3D is astounding. Again, I steer clear of of ATI.

I got my dual-vga AGP Matrox G450 32MB card for just over $100(US) about a year and a half ago. I'm sure you can still get their cards pretty cheap, and better ones too.
