What's your opinion about the crowd cheering in GT4

If you like it or hate it, it seems impossible to turn off public cheering in GT4 without turning off the other sound effects like engine and tyre sounds.

edit : does anybody have information about the existence of a code to swith crowd cheering and the air horn OFF?

I think the cheering crowds are pretty cool. It just adds to the realism. I mean: if you have a grid containing a Sauber Mercedes, a Toyota GT-One, a Pescarolo, a Bentley Speed 8, an Audi R8 and a Nissan R390, would you be silent?

I would scream my ass off!

If I'm racing in a 'professional' racing league with le mans type cars etc... yes I think it should be there. But if I'm racing in a Fiat Panda, as cool as they are ;), no.

I played GT1 the other day & I noticed there wasn't a crowd when I did the qualify lap or whatever, which was good.

I personally don't like the crowd noise in GT3 so I prolly wont like it in GT4. All I can say is that Im not going to be picky about it though. If I cant turn the sound off, then I'll just deal with it.

Ahh, I'm not so much a fan of the crowd noise. Sometimes I'll just do a lap or two in time trial just so I can watch a replay and hear the car, and it got annoying in GT3 when your car was far off in the replay, but you could'nt hear it because the crowd was too loud. And from the sounds of the crowd in GT4, they seem to be louder and more annoying with the stupid air horns. And in my opinion, if you are in a totaly race modified car with racing exauhst and everything, you arent going to be able to hear the crowd, especialy while driving, agree? You could probably hear the crowd in replay mode, but it would'nt drown out the car sounds. Is there an option to turn crowd noise off?

In my opinion it's cool, if it's in real races then why not in the game? That's like saying that you don't like trees because they take too much space on the screen and pissed off that you can't remove the trees from the courses.

I think it should be in the races.. I mean, real races certainly have crowds. But I don't think it should be there for free runs. I mean, when a company goes to test a car on a track, there's no crowds, just the testing crew. The crowds don't show up until an actual race.

I agree with the above post about wanting to take a nice quiet drive around a track. Hearing a crowd going crazy and blowing airhorns only serves to take you out of it at that point.

I don't mind a bit of crowd noise but on a large circuit like Fuji Speedway where you can hear millions screaming from the overside of the track it does get on my tits a bit during the replays.

I think you need the crowd cheering in the game, but the ability to turn it off would have been really nice.

I don't see why game makers neglect audio options. They just seem to add a few sound options in at the last minute, in case people might want to turn the volume down a touch.

Cheers, Jamie

i like the crowds in gt3 if im racing against other cars, but on free run when im messing around its quite annoying. especially if im messing around or something and staying in about the same spot, and all i hear is "woooooo, ahhhhhuuu".

I find the crowd noises annoying, when I'm trying to listen to the car screech around the corners, powerslide, and peel out. It's annoying when all of a sudden the crowd goes it's usual annoying noise. :P

That is a lot of votes! 👍

Updated the tracks (cheering or not), as far as I could make up from videos on GTPlanet (I don't have GT4 yet). Help for the remaining tracks is appreciated! :)

I think this thread SUCKS....

I don't even hear the telephone when I'm playing - I hear the engine go up , or down. And change accordingly.. The rest doesn't matter...

Rotary Powered
what crowd? I never heard anything other than my engine sound in GT3.

Com'on, aren't you guys "in the zone" when you guy "race"? ;)

Along with these guys, never EVER heard people cheering in GT3.... :yuck:

I would like it if it there was a ' mute' for crowds. I think it can get annoying.

However, since the game will support Dolby ProLogicII, we might be able to turn it down on your soundsystem. Engine will come from center speaker (and sub for depth I hope), other cars sounds will come from the sides (left/right on front and rear presumably).

Turning down the volume on these speakers may help those who would like to have less noise other than your engine...

I am not in the possesion of the game so it is speculation based on common sense and the fact that I have the logitech Z-680 where I can reduce the level of each speaker.

:indiff:

*remembers remarks from same member in other thread a few days ago, regarding disturbing noises*

The noise from the DFP is close to embarrasing sometimes...
Flerbizky
A really friggin' LOUD highpitched very very annoying mechanical whining kinda sound...
*shakes head and adds Flerbizky to ignore list*

I've been listening again to the Japan Demo video's on GTPlanet. Besides an isolated horn on Costa di Amalfi, there do not seem to be crowd noises on this disk, is that correct?
Tracks on the demo-video's were :
- Ice Arena
- Trial Mountain
- George V Paris

Can someone confirm that there is no public cheering on these tracks on the Japan Demo? Some people might reconsider trying to find a used copy of the demo anyway ... and try to modify their GT4 copy later with these tracks ...

I could live with crowd cheering. I like to thik that at least someone appreciates my efforts in racing ... but maybe I'm just vain.

I agree ...

The crowd is nice to have. It doesn't bother me or anything. I even don't know for them as I drive. I just have some small problems (tendancy from driving a real car :) ), when someone runs on the track (GT4P - that rally track), and I brake :). That is perhaps a little unecessary, but it ads to great feeling in the game.
