What's your opinion about the crowd cheering in GT4

In all the years I participated car races (as a driver or as pit crew) or attended car races (track races, rallies, rallycross, autocross european style, slalom, track days, Paris-Dakar Prologue) I NEVER heard crowds making that kind of sounds.

I think that all the "hip hip hoorah for GT4" fanboys who say that it adds atmosphere all the way, even in free run, mix up the cheering with the cheering in a soccer game :yuck:

I did not attend races in the US however (only a track day at Willow Springs), neither in the south of Europe or Japan. So can anyone tell if people act like that in those regions.
Only real life experience please ... no TV or so ... ;)

"up" as a last request to PD/KY to make this unselectable in the PAL release - it is an easy upgrade of the game and 55% of the forum members would enjoy to shut it off in free run mode, while 10% doesn't even care or realise that it's there.

A surprising result in a world of GT4 fanboys who can hardly support any critic on the game.

Thanks for all the voting, hope that PD/KY sees the result, and otherwise I hope that competing games take advantage by using this feedback.

I can't complain about crowd noise because if it wasn't there, someone would be complaining that it wasn't "realistic" with no crowd noise. I don't think it will bother me too much with the music playing 👍.

I just don't see it as being realistic when the crowd cheers as a Model T goes by at an astonishing 20mph. In real life they'd probably start leaving.

Maybe you've never heard of NASCAR at Daytona or Talladega or Bristol. Maybe you never heard of crowds at European F1 races. Maybe you've never heard the crowd once the 24 Hours of Le Mans comes to an end. I'm not complaining about crowd noise at all. I don't have any GT4, but when this game comes to the States, I'm not going to be bothered. I don't think it's going to bother me in trying to win races. I don't expect people to shut up and enjoy the race. Whenever something cool happens, the fans will go crazy. Like, look at last year when Jeff Gordon got passed by Dale Earnhardt Jr. at Talladega and the crowd roared last year. I don't like mentioning NASCAR, but hey. It's motorsport.

So I don't care about crowd noise. Even if nothing's going on, I don't care one bit. It's like trying to say that between two identical cars, one is much better because it has fuzzy dice. Come on now.

The crowd cheering is just trying to make the game more realistic so it can live up to its name as a simulator, as already said whats the point in having a crowd there making no sound. Half of the time i won't even notice the sound as I will be concentrating on driving not the crowd sounds. Also I think that having people running off the track on a rally is good, because it simulates all the ********s who do it in real life which is extremely stupid, come on you could get run over for doing that!

Personally I don't mind the crowd noises. They're just barely audible above the engine noises, not really distracting at all. I just wish it was a bit more dynamic, same with the people running across the tracks. Hearing the crowd roar as you head into the last lap or the last corner would be cool. Seeing a photographer duck onto the track to take a quick photo on the opening lap would be cool. But hearing the crowd roar on every lap and seeing the same photographer take the same picture every lap doesn’t seem natural.

On 12 Mar 05, 146 people have voted. All these people voted before the release of the US and PAL editions.

1. 47 = 32.19%
2. 70 = 47.95%
3. 16 = 10.96%
4. 13 = 8.90%

I'm sorry for some fanboys to bring this up again, but I wonder if there exists a code yet to swith OFF crowd cheering and the air horn?

edit : voting today = 47 - 70 - 16 -13

Voting result standings, 1 year later ... : 48 - 80 - 19 -15

Probably there are some new guys who haven't voted yet. How do they like the crowd noise after almost 2 years of GT4?

And probably there's still no code on the market to get rid of these samples?

I have to wonder why you've dug up the thread just to say what the scores are standing at - you said yourself it's a year old, and thus long-dead, but if you bump it up like this the scores will change. So how can you bump it to say the final scores? It would have been a better idea to edit your previous post.

1 year old does not mean that the thread is dead.

I mentionned the scores when I "upped" it, to see if there is an evolution in the way people vote. As you can see, 5 people have voted since, and to my surprise, 2 of them are still happy with this repetitive cheering, even after 2 years.

If I would edit my post, it wouldn't catch attention and nobody would vote.

i hadn't realised this thread was a year old when i first looked at it =O

Personally i don't notice the cheering, i'm concentrating on the race most of the time, so it goes unnoticed, but it does add to the atmosphere when you notice it.

One year since the last post (which was your own) and a whole five votes in that time period means the thread was certainly terminal if not dead.

You bumped the thread up simply to get more votes in, yes the results have changed but you hardly made a discussion point of it did you?

If you are going to resurrect year old threads please at least do so by adding something valid to the discussion and in my opinion that has not happened yet.

Thanks

Scaff, I remembered you a lot more positive. Weren't you one of the enthousiasts in the brake testing thread in GT4P?

I'm interested to see if the attitude towards crowd noise has changed, and therefore I bring the thread under the attention of new people.

I expected that people would have gotten bored to hear this crowd cheering same sample over and over again during almost 2 years now.

Another possibility would be to start a new poll about the same subject. Which I chose not to do.

I've never really noticed the crowd noises before, but now that you mention it...

I guess it just adds atmosphere and makes the Gran Turismo experience that touch more authentic, closer to the real thing.

Can't believe it!

Must be that you only drove the Nürburgring and Motorland, on these tracks there is fortunately no cheering and whistling. Suzuka is also mostly unwasted, with only one spot (grandstands).

On other tracks, during replays, you can hardly hear your engine.
