What's your social group?

Clever, joker, musical and sporty. I fit in pretty much anywhere apart from the 'indie' kid section  Not that I'd want to be one of those anyway, rolled up chinos, shirts done unto the top and snapbacks - no thanks! Jeans and shirt/tshirt for me.

Petrolhead. Or perhaps werd. Werd is a social group invented by my friend to describe me, it's a combination of weird and nerd.

Let me think...

I'm probably one of the few "classic rock listeners" and "car fanatic" people in the school. I mostly fit in the "gamer" group, since 85% of my closest friends are gamers. I'm definitely not an outcast, and I'm not "popular."

Contradiction much?

More like stating a normal thing. Overworked college students are pretty common...

I don't really fall into a group clearly, though I'm a bit of a nerd. But social group wise I just fit in all over, though sometimes I get called a hipster because I have a camera and glasses. And know how to dress.

As for "Scene," it refers more to the types that frequent raves, and generally the girls are super easy to spot - beads, dyed hair, Hello Kitty stuff, bright colors and fairly attention getting clothes. Mini-skirts and thigh high socks with some Care Bear top etc.

Same where I live.

Pretty sure you have defined social clicks over in the UK, considering there is shared fashion and interests between here and there. More so considering the UK music that mocks various groups like Hipsters, Emos, Chavs, etc.

I would've thought otherwise since you're from the UK.

From my observation, over here there is the social group - typical mainstream people, those who follow whatever is popular right now, who listen to whatever song music industry currently gives them like One Direction.:yuck: And then there is the quiet bunch, those who are more reserved. Nothing much to talk about there.

Although the main language of communication here is English, most prefer to speak Chinese. So there is an English group and a Chinese group. Since I don't speak Chinese, I'd like to join the English group but as they are all mainstream, my ego tells me that I am better off without them. :sly:

We don't have the emos, goths, scenes, indie, etc. Though there is a few who dress indie but with a touch of K-POP. :dopey:

A couple of gamers but minority as well. Worst of all, none of them play GT5. :ouch:

Alternative people are nonexistent except for me I think, so I guess I'm an outcast. :scared:

Then there is the foreign students who are cool and hang with everyone. :dopey:

It's really a shame because I'd like a more diverse society. I'd like to hang with the emos, the goths, indie kids and chat with them, to see things from their perspective.

There is when you go down south or to some of the bigger cities.

The only different "types" I have where I live are the "popular" and "unpopular" along with the "chavs" and the "goths".

There are vague "types" but they don't quarantine each other from each other meaning there is little room for conflict.

I'm in Newcastle. I now know what real chavs are like.

I'm in the lonely-soul-that's-cordial-with-everyone non-group.

I see, so in the emo group there are sub-divisions of 'emos who do not self harm' and 'emo who self harm'. Interesting. :dopey:
Well there's real emo, a music genre which combines elements of indie rock and hardcore punk, people in this scene generally aren't known for self harm. Then you have "emo" which is just a bunch of kids with growing pains and really has nothing to do with the awesome music scene of the '90s. Being a fan of the '90s emo scene, this is one of my worst pet peeves. For a fun fact - my username is a reference to the emo band Cap'n Jazz.

As for the topic at hand, I wouldn't really pin myself down to a single social group. I associate with different "cliques", from the punks, geeks, '50s revivalist/rockabilly, but I wouldn't call myself any of these. I guess I don't think about this enough. My mum thinks I'm a hipster. This website pokes a bit of fun at this subject.

Just my mates; the guys I think are cool and genuine. Not really a scene or anything like that. We all play instruments, sport, generally dislike people that try too hard to be cool and listen mainly to rock music.

I don't think we can be friends.

Around certain people I'm the silent Killy type.

Although quite straight forward, I've never heard of the term 'silent Killy' before so I Googled it and got 'Achmed Silent I kill you'.

All I saw was a bunch of cool printed t-shirts which I so wanna buy now. :dopey:

EDIT: After checking out the cool t-shirts, I now see the other content on the site.

Nerd... specifically with a select number of video games.

I have other hobbies I don't really talk much about because there just aren't a whole lot of people I know IRL who share the same hobbies as I do.

See here's the problem, I am not really good at/don't have time for gaming, not completely clued up on awesomeness culture or socially inept enough to get in with nerds, nor am I a drunkard chav or have the bizarre self confidence to attempt the other end of the spectrum. Of all my interests I don't think I have a decent level of knowledge in a select number of fields that put me into a group of people and as such I kinda flit about, hijacking friendships from other friends or family. I guess maybe I put other things ahead at times that were crucial for social progress and missed the boat.
