Hey folks., I'm just curious about something. A while back I posted a topic regarding the issue with the (hatching effect) in the graphics that's often seen when going into tunnels, night races, ect. I remember the discussion going into the area of the possibility that it's related to the refresh rate on our flat screens.

I also know that not all are created equal. So.., to those of you out there.., if you're seeing the hatching.., what's your flat screens refresh rate? If you're not seeing the hatching effect.., again what's your refresh rate?

I'm sure my wife and I'll will be replacing the last tube TV in our home with a new flat screen once the new Nintindo Wii-U comes out (since it'll be in HD). The only reason we didn't replace it is because the current Wii isn't in HD so there was no need to buy a 3rd flat screen (yet).

I'm really curious as to how high you need to go with the refresh rate on a flat screen to get the most out of GT-5. Both of my flat screens have a rate of 60hz (I know that might be considered low., but it's more than sufficient with EVERY game I play on both the XBox 360 and my PS3). GT-5 is the only game I play where this hatching is an issue.

What are you all using?

We have a Samsung LN52C530 with a 60Hz Refresh Rate and do not see the issues as described above. Nighttime is a bit washed out, but other than that no issues.

When you say "washed out".., what does it look like? I know some who have also experienced this problem used the phrase "washed out" to explain it.

Our two flat screens are an LG and a Vizio. The Vizio looks amazing with all of my other titles regardless of whether it's the Xbox or the PS3 running on it. The LG also looks great regardless of what console I'm using. However.., GT5 struggles in areas of the graphics with the Vizio.., but not so much when using the LG (it's still there.., but not as noticeable).

I'm just wondering if it's really an issue of refresh rate or something else. Personally I think PD went so overboard with focusing on the graphics that they produced a title with graphics beyond the capabilities of most flat screens on the market today.

I only buy plasmas. So I haven't seen the issue you speak of. I think the rate on plasmas are low too.

All HDTV's will run at 60Hz.

PS3 runs at 60Hz max.

Any gimmicks that refresh faster ie 100, 200, 600Hz are just adding made up frames from the TV not the PS3.
It will add lag with these modes on, turn all gimmicks off, Dynamic contrast, Deep Black, Edge smoothing etc..

Get a calibration disc, click the THX logo on a Star Wars DVD/BR, Type 7669 on any Sony BR or get decent images off net!

If you have a decent make of TV this site will give you the settings for a quick and more accurate picture than before http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/reviews.php just find your TV!
