I don't want to advertise anything here for anyone, but for Belgium shipping of a Fanatec wheel costs 15 Euro, totalling the whole lot to under 385(steer, CS-Pedals and both shifters)

Just an idea though

i would love to get fanatech because it has 3 motors running the steering wheel, but the downfall is that the pedals and gearshifter are all sold separately.. which costs more than the g27, which has all that i need!

Can you get cheaper pedals for the Fanatec GT3RS V2? The clubsports indeedilly look nice but they add $140 to the total price.

Also still can't really tell which wheel is the biggest in diameter.

Why not buy from local store then? (it costs 260€ in Finland currently)

Well my estimates are all from local stores, it costs about 2600nkr here and I guess about 100-150nkr added for shipping, so lets say 2750nkr / 8 = 343 Euros, and 2750nkr / 6.2 = 444 USD.

Even if I were to purchase it from Amazon.com and use a freight company to ship it (cause they do not ship it to Norway initially) I will have to pay the 25% VAT and costums so it would be basically the same, so either way I am ****ed.

VERY interesting to see it so cheap in Finland though compared to Norway, if they some stores would ship to Norway they would have to deduct 18% VAT so that I would pay 25% on import but it would still be quite a bit cheaper as I imagine shipping would not be so much from Finland to Norway.

I`ll check what it costs in Sweden as well.

Oh and 2600nkr is the cheapest, I have seen it for 3200nkr as well, thats 400 Euros....oh my.

Even though Fanatec may have all of the features I'm gonna buy the G27. The features are just not worth the extra 100 dollars when I can get an entire G27 for $230. Though before I decide to buy a set, what pedals can you use with the Fanatec GT3 RS? Because if I can keep it for around what the G27 costs then I would not mind the wheel since I have read that it's slightly better.

If you want to play on a PC, you can use any pedal set with the GT3RS, as long as it is a standalone USB device. If you are wanting to use the GT3RS on consoles with other pedals, the only way you can do that is to get a G25/G27 pedal adapter from Fanatec, and use the G25 or G27 pedals. The adapter is $20 plus shipping I believe.

It seems like the G27 is the best option for me. I have also found a wheelstand online for $100 and even if it's only meant for an xbox steering wheel I will make it work for the G27.

Excellent work on the review Carl! 👍

As you know I picked up a G27 a few weeks ago to replace my DFGT. Initially I was quite impressed with its performance and the smoother FFB it offered compared to the DFGT. The only problem is that in the past day or so it has developed the clunking noise you described, which has become quite annoying and distracting at times. It mainly happens when you go over curbing or slight bumps in the road (which is an issue as Iracing has a very detailed track surface). I've been doing a lot of lapping in the Radical SR8 @ Zandvoort over the past 2 days or so, and in the past hour of hot lapping the clunking and jerky FFB has gotten noticeably worse, to the point where it is actually affecting my driving in a negative way now :ill: I've done a bit of digging to see what is causing this but haven't come up with much so far, so I might end up taking it apart tommorow to see if I can find anything in the design that might be causing this :nervous:

I had bought a GT3RS V1 when they first came out ~ 1 1/2 years ago but ended up picking up a Logitech DFGT, as I was having some overheating issues with the V1 and just wasn't happy with the FFB feel and strength for the US GT5 Time Trial in particular. If the G27's clunking issue continues to get worse and I can't find a fix for it I may try and contact Thomas to see if I can't test the new GT3RS V2. BTW, do you happen to know what causes this clunking issue with the G27??? I'm REALLY dissapointed to have this clunking/knocking develop :yuck:

Hey Brock, thanks for the nice words man :)

To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what the root cause of the "clunk" is.
I actually already owned the G27 when I applied to become a tester for Fanatec. I bought one around the 1st of October last year shortly after it first came out. I used it in GT5P, the TT demo, and sort of "played" around with some PC games like rFactor and GTREvo/GTR2. I didn't seriously get into iRacing until about June of this year.

Well, in the meantime, I had actually switched back to using the DFGT in GT5P and other games, because I had become so annoyed with the clunking noise you're talking about. So, I took down the G27 around Feb./March of this year, and was using the DFGT until I started iRacing. Shortly after getting into iRacing, I decided to get the G27 out of the closet and try it again. Same clunking noise issue in iRacing, especially going over bumps or making quick corrections

But, after about 3 days of using the G27 in iRacing, I go to start the game up, and the G27 doesn't calibrate :odd: I go in game and sure enough, the wheel isn't working. Check to make sure it's plugged in, check to make sure no wires are crimped, etc. etc. Can't get it to work in any PC game. So I try it on the PS3--nothing. Won't work there either. So I had to call Logitech support, and I eventually sent them the wheel back and they sent me a replacement.

Needless to say, I wasn't too impressed with the G27's durability.
I've put way more time in on my old, refurbished DFGT and it's still going
strong. I figure I MIGHT have put in about 80--100 hours on the original G27 I had before it failed.

I didn't bring this up in my review because it had no bearing on the current G27 that I have now. It hasn't failed, yet.

I guess maybe the clunking sound has something to do with the design of the G27's helical gears? I've started wearing headphones when I drive, so it doesn't bother me as much as it used to, but if you don't wear headphones, it can get really annoying. :indiff:

That's interesting to hear that it also became such a problem for you :ill: At this point the G27's FFB has deteriorated to the point to where I'd most likely be better off using the good old workhorse DFGT, which doesn't have this issue one bit despite the fact that I've probably logged about 20x the hours on it  For me it's not so much the noise that is bothering me, rather the effect that this clunking/knocking has on the precision of the FFB (especially at a bumpy track like Zandvoort). I find it to be especially affecting me at turn 5 @ Zandvoort (a cresting, high speed right hand kink) which has a slight bump in the road just as you approach the crest. When I hit this bump the wheel clunks fairly loudly and the FFB becomes very imprecise and unpredictable, almost as if the FFB motor is loose and moving around on the mounting points. This issue has really made a turn for the worse as I've spent more time on this rather bumpy track.

Anyhow, hopefully I can find some way to sort this problem out when I take it apart tomorrow. Hopefully this doesn't end up being another waste of money :ill:

Edit: It's amazing how much worse this problem has gotten just in the past few hours of hot lapping :indiff:

I`m a bit torn whether to get the GT3 V2 or not, the only real other option for me being the G27.

I have read some older reviews of the V1 edition of the wheel and by those impressions I would go for the G27, but now I am not so sure.

As I see it:

G27:

+ good shifter
+ good shifter pedals
+ reasonably solid clamp to desk

- clunking noise (as mentioned in the post above, I have presviously enquired about this in a post of my own as well).
- pedals are not as good as the CSP
- poor/none added upgrades for the future, planned from Logitech.

GT3 V2:

+ Thicker and larger wheel
+ vast arrray of options
+ possible future upgrades, like the clubsport shifter

- poor desk clamp, if I get it I will get the mounting clamp
- annoying noise from fan, when heating
- "worse" shifter then the G27

Is the sound from the fan, only when used with the FFB or is it possible it starts running when one is not using FFB as well?

And is the V2 wheel a huge improvement over the V1?

I can only justify getting it without the shifter if I go for the GT3 V2 wheel at this moment and I might wait getting one until the CS-shifter hits the market, that way I can bake the 50E. into that price that I do not spend now, but still owning a Logitech DFP now it might feel more "safe" to go with the G27 but the poster above me makes me even more nervous :nervous:

Well, I bit the bullet and bought the Fanatec GT3RS wheel with the clubsport pedals today. I got it since I have read that it's better or on level with the G27. Inside sim racing seems to only have a review on V1 of the wheel so setup could be easier for me.

When something goes wrong with the logitech wheel in the first few weeks you can just drive to the store and return/replace it, not true for the Fanatec wheel. This is based on my experience.

I have had problems with Zotac and my motherboard replacement took over a month to get back to me. Good product but support lack because it was a small company. I would not mind waiting half of a month for a wheel replacement if I waited 5 years for GT5 to come out.

BIG question: can I use my g25 wheel and clubsport pedals with ps3 to play gt5? Carl, I agree with your comments about the CSP, I've really enjoyed using them with the g25 on iracing. The g25 and CSP each plug into a usb port on my PC. But, I can't figure out how to connect with ps3. I tried plugging both into a usb 4-port hub, and connecting that to input 2 on ps3 with the ps3 controller in input1, but it doesn't seem to recognize the pedals. HEEELLPP! I've been using the controller in gt5, but I really want to use my wheel and pedals.

Unfortunately the ClubSport pedals must be wired through a Fanatec wheel to work with consoles. It's my understanding that neither the Xbox 360 nor the PS3 recognize standalone pedals.

Yeah that bit of information is true. You need an fanatec wheel to play the pedals on the console.
