Kazunori Yamauchi Hopes to Achieve “Human Drama” in Next Gran Turismo

“The next step is exactly what you are experiencing here at GT Academy. Racing is a human drama and I would like to achieve that in the next game.”

Well, where is our "human drama"?

That was over a year ago though... Some could argue that case, I don't know enough to argue it but I mean the AI is horrible if thats what you mean.

Though holding PD and Kazunori to things said from years ago is eh, cause we already know they don't live up to a lot of promises.

I should have known better...

Well, where is our "human drama"?

My take is that you want the forum to fill your void. :D

----------------------------------------------------------
One of the things that I have noticed is that some things are lost in translation...
...and its not just because of "translator-san".

Japanese make frequent use of English loan words but sometimes they carry
a different connotation than the colloquial English's original meaning.

Back in August of 2012:

Yamauchi recently joined the European GT Academy finalists at Race Camp and answered a few of their questions. One such question was asked by finalist Des Foley, who inquired about what's the next "big step" for the IP. Yamauchi responded:

"The next step is exactly what you are experiencing here at GT Academy. Racing is a human drama and I would like to achieve that in the next game."

So the interpretation of that can be pretty broad.
It can encompass everything from personal drama involving endless practicing...
...to mind games among rivals, politics between teams & race management etc.

I recall listening to an interview of him done in Japanese where he explained what he meant by "Human Drama".
If I can find it, I will transcribe it and post it here later.

Yamauchi's a dreamer that thinks rationally about his dreams just a second too late. The fact that he would like to achieve outlandish things doesn't mean he won't be the first to realize they can't be done and forget about that.

So yeah, give Yamauchi a >3000 staff, including some world-leading AI developer, and a console with unlimited computing power and he'll give you human drama. But with less than 500 people, and with the hardware limits the PS3 presents... You got the gist of it by this point. Not enough people, not enough time and not enough power to deliver some features.

He did get some 30 brands to design a visionary car from GT, tho. When things can be done, Kaz delivers.

Does he really have close to 500 employees? That can't be true, and if it is what have they been doing other than enjoying our money? I would think a studio with that many people working would have produced a game with more features. I could be wrong as I don't know much about it. Either way I think he still needs to double it.

It's weird because when GT5 came out I think I remember there was 10 fanboys te defend it for every 1 person complaining. Now it's the opposite. In fact I don't think I've heard anyone stick up for it. Well one friend on PSN said give it some time.

No. There are only about 110 people working for PD.

Well, where is our "human drama"?

I'm beginning to hate this guy for lying and taking my £40. He leads a team filled with people who are almost completely disconnected with what's happening in real motor racing in the world and they also don't listen to this site for sure.

They have been distracted by this GT academy nonsense. The particular Nissans of the academy and of Kaz's exploits are so boring. The least exciting car of the GT series cars arguably.

I hereby nominate you for Thread of the Month for January:cheers: I'll give Kaz the benefit of the doubt for another month or two but after that I'm calling bs on that promise he made to bring the "human drama" to GT6. So far, it's anything but, especially if you are an offline player only. And by that I'm not inferring that online is much better at this point, far from it. I give him three months from release to deliver on his promise...after that I'm gonna say it was marketing bs and we deserve better:tup:

Whoops, my bad. But that makes what I said even more true. 110 people - including media artists, too - aren't a lot to work with. And it's not like you'll find 3D artists specializing in cars or racing tracks waiting in line outside your office.

Whoever is (NOT) working there has completely lost the concept of attention to detail. This game was supposed to be accurate in its reproduction of cars and their specs. The and how would so many errors escape the QA of the final product unless they failed to do quality assurance? I really think/hope this game is just a bridge to GT7.

I really hope some of the chunks left out of the game were due to an attempt to block hacking. Perhaps as many say we are just waiting on a huge patch in order to fix most of what is clearly wrong here. It used to be rare if not impossible to find weight and measurement errors with GT cars. Now it's common place. I think Kaz is no longer involved in the crafting and detail of the game. Or maybe his crew no longer hear his voice. But the passion it takes to sweat the details an put out an tight product seems to be missing. Maybe he is burnt out. Or maybe he just doesn't give a damn anymore and is happy driving new cars and having streets named after him.

No matter the cause, the guts of his game and commitment to excellence is clearly missing. It is really sad because his passion to make the best simulator on the planet was a reason to look forward to each release. I'm not sure our complaining can do much about it. I really want to be wrong and hope there is an update soon.

I think the opting of quantity over quality, as has been said numerous times on this forum, had a massive impact on the QA of the game.
Simply transferring the cars from previous games as standard cars wouldn't have been a problem if the physics engine was the exact same. As GT6 has a new physics engine, this meant retesting 1000+ cars.
I think that's where they assumed that their "transfer" went right, possibly with sample checking along the way. Many cars slipped through the maze and will need patching to be anywhere near what they should be. These exceptions are way easier to be found with a player-base of multiple millions than with a handful of testers, so I'd say they have cut some corners and I hope they'll patch em back up as time progresses
