Where to buy my bass?Music

You guys know how I love to fill in backstory, so bear with me.. hehe.

Years ago, I fell in love with one of the guitars frequently used by Sting. It's a 1962 Fender P-bass, three-tone sunburst with a tortoiseshell pickguard. Even today, it ranks as one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever laid eyes on.

Obviously, buying an original '62 is difficult at best due to the prohibitive cost.. they tend to go for several thousand dollars at a minimum. More of a collectible than something you'd take around to gigs and such. Even the reissue that Fender makes goes for around two grand.

Fender Japan currently makes this guitar as a reissue, for a much more reasonable price (around $600, depending on the exchange rate). They actually have two of them on their website, one about a hundred bucks more expensive, and I can't read the site to tell what the difference between them is. The price is barely more than the standard Mexican P-bass you can buy anywhere.

For one, I can't find an ordering link anywhere on the site. There probably isn't one.. even Fender USA doesn't sell their guitars directly through the site, you've got to find a retailer. And I've heard Fender Japan doesn't like to ship to the US anyway.

Does anyone know of import sites where I could order one of these Japanese reissues and have it sent to the US? Hopefully I can order in a few weeks.. I've got some money coming in the form of a really fat paycheck early next month.

What about a Squire?

They're ultra-cheap (compared to Fender), and without any doubt the best next to a Fender itself since they're made by Fender...I want a P-Bass too but the prices are far too high, how much I love them, I'd rather spend 50% for a Rickenbacker 4003...

Because he wants a Fender, and a very specific one at that. My best suggestion would be eBay or some other Japan-centric website. Maybe you could email Audiocubes.com and ask for help on acquiring that bass. :)

Precisely, F1. :) It's not just "a bass guitar" I'm after (this is a college town.. I could probably pick one up for a song in a local pawn shop).. it's a P-bass with three-tone sunburst and a tortoiseshell pickguard that I'm after. Which, as far as I know, was only available in and around 1962, and the new reissues of that particular guitar. The guitar itself hasn't changed much since then, at least in terms of outer appearance.. it's just I'm really set on that particular color scheme on that particular make of guitar. You know how it is.. if I were to buy another P-bass, regardless of how close it is, I'll always be wishing I'd looked just a little harder and gotten the one I really wanted, ya know?

You probably wouldn't have to import it, it'd just be that same Fender, just Made in Japan. You can always get that other P-Bass and change the pickguard. You could also check E-bay, or Talk Bass's for sale threads.
