Which is the least popular manufacturer in the SM championship?

Just tried every single Gr.3 car I had in my inventory on Dragon Trail II with BoP on and stock setups. I drove 5 fast laps with no mistakes with each car. Results are listed below. To sum it up the WRX seems to win due to its high stability and cornering characteristics. It's just slightly worse than the Beetle, which is its greatest competitor in terms of stat balance. What it lacks is max speed so it won't impress on tracks with long straights (farewell Mount Panorama). But it really excels in high speed corners so it might just make up for the lack of speed if you get the cornering right.

Other than that I concluded that the Toyota FT1 was really enjoyable to drive. It had a really cool engine sound and felt very responsive. Probably the only car that I had a "connection" with right from the start. And also: MR cars are so hard to drive in comparison to FR and FF cars. Especially the R8 LMS; it just hates downhill elevations and big curbs. It was the only car that continuously started to lose balance on the last two corners. Quite ironic considering I choose this car for the previous test season. Little did I know. :)

1. Subaru WRX - 1:41:791
2. Ferrari 458 - 1:42:144
3. BMW M6 - 1:42:186
4. Toyota FT1 - 1:42:223
5. Hyundai Genesis - 1:42:301
6. Renault R.S.01 - 1:42:321
7. Lexus RC F - 1:42:657
8. Corvette C7 - 1:42:796
9. Audi R8 LMS - 1:42.943
10. Mercedes AMG - 1:43:246

Good to hear, as I've signed on for Toyota this week. I tried the FT-1 out in some Gr.3 daily races yesterday, and it felt a lot lighter than the Mustang that I'm used to. The only significant problem I found with it was that it is lacking in straight-line speed, especially compared to the Mustang. Same goes for the 86, which I tested out a little today.

Yeah straight-line speed can be a real game changer. The Viper on Mount Panorama showed us that during test season 1. But as long as you get high scores on tracks that suits your car then it will probably balance itself out in the end. Lots of tracks with a high number of corners and shorter straights.

Don't know if you watch this guys stream, but it was very fun to see his reactions to the Viper on Panorama:

I signed to Hyundai for first week of FIA races, after all the races I finished 16th best of all Hyundai drivers and I'm only an average driver at best, think I noticed there was less than 500 people signed up for Hyundai in total.

Not sure if you're aware, but I think that happened because the BOP on the Gr.3 cars was removed when they were glitched into the Gr.4 race, and they ran with their stock power and weight.

I can guarantee as someone that has a lot of time driving one that the Viper does not at this time possess that type of straight line walk away speed against any cars within its class. I could only wish for such!

Oh I didn't know that. Sounds horrific.

I drove Mazda (and always will since it’s what I drive in real life), I only saw 1 other one in the 6 races I did, and I managed to come 3rd in points in the Americas with only two podium finishes so that shows how few people use them. The Gr. 4 is competitive on some tracks like Brands and Nurb GP but the Gr. 3 is out to lunch, but stable, so you can pass people who make mistakes.

In the Americas races it seemed like Porsche & Nissan were the most popular followed by Subaru, a lot of Vipers, Corvettes, and Ferraris, not many Hyundais, Toyotas, Lexuses and the rest. 1 or 2 of them, and the Jaguar and Ford.

I didn’t see a single Aston, Audi, or Peugeot in the races I did, but that was probably different in Europe. The Megane and 86 were reasonably popular and usually at the front but didn’t see any Ft1s or RS01s

Haven't seen any Jaguars. They seem too slow. The Gr. 4 car won't turn in enough around Maggiore and plows into the wall in the quick right to left turns. The bop is lacking equality and the fact there's a stock setup on the cars makes it even worse.

I was in the race and we suspected it was due to the lack of BoP. He was 3s faster than gtr3123.

I've driven a Subaru in every Gr3 and Gr4 race so far in both Cups, and only ran into other Subaru drivers once.
Was going to switch from Subaru to either Porsche or Toyota for Week 2, but I won the last Manufacturer's Cup race, so I'll be loyal for one more week :D

I initially wanted to choose Subaru, because I liked the looks of the Gr.3 car. But I have a hard time overcoming the understeer. Tell me if you find a nice setup for it!
Understeer on the Subaru WRX Gr3? What other car are you comparing it to? Just curious because I thought it handled quite well in the corners compared to most I've used so far.

I was used to MR cars before I drove the WRX, so the stability came off as understeering to me. But having driven it now for quite some time I can tell that it's not actually understeering.

Signed for Aston last night, The Gr.3 is really nice to drive and the noise is pretty decent. Not as agile as the Toyota's but straight line speed is nice.

Haven't seen another Aston online yet.

I saw one, and he mostly went backwards during the race.

Switched from Citroen to Mitsubishi this week. Never seen a single one in my time racing on European Servers

Me neither I don't think, I think these are the two rarest manufactures to see, on the European servers at least.

It's not like Jaguar, Peugeot, Hyundai, Lexus, Ford and Mercedes are seen a lot either.

I’m with Aston Martin and I’ve yet to see another one in any of my races. Surprising because I feel that both the GR.3 and GR.4 perform well!

Subaru here.......not the fastest at all, but very stable.....I can drive very consistent with it, gr. 3 and gr.4
managed also 2 wins last week, so im quite happy with it

Tried Nissan for the second week, and it just about destroyed my confidence at racing games. Gr.3 GTR is absolutely undrivable. I can't finish a single race without spinning and falling half a lap down.
The throttle is way too touchy anywhere under 70mph. It's like grip, grip, instant full-rev burnout. And when I manage to keep it on track the best pace I can manage is 2 seconds slower than any other Gr.3 car I've tried.

I like to be the only Mustang in most Races but also it is a lack of comparison in times and performance. i never know if it is me or the car that messes up on some tracks....

Pretty sure there's a thread on GTPlanet.net where people vote for the manufacturer they chose for a driver's contract. This should give a good representation of what manufacturers are popular and what's not. Tried to find it but cannot, sorry.
