OK I'm trying to buy a good notebook/laptop for college and it also has to meet my gaming and entertainment needs. So I've narrowed it down to 3. Which do you think will be the best deal and most usefull?

NEVERMIND....I didn't realize it was 2,500 dollars....thats a little too high...make #3 other and give your own...around 1600 dollars and it must have Wireless capabilities. I prefer wireless G but 802.11b is ok too....anything wi-fi capable,,atleast 256 ram...remember its also a gaming machine....

If it's for gaming, get a desktop. Also, I'd rather get a desktop so your computer doesn't suddenly shut off because it's been on too long and is overheating....

I'm also getting interested into the laptop industry. I would go for #2 because of the performance, but I would go for #1 because of the longevity of the battery.

Did you get that information off of Outpost.com? How much does it cost to ship?

Oh come on! You can go an hour without games! And you can watch DVD's on low-end (by today's standards) computers today.

Ah, but I can't tell you how many times using the iBook has saved my butt when working on a school project, because the power goes out and yet it still runs... ;)

Get Warcraft 3 and put it on there! Ahh, WC3:drool:

Well, I wasn't advertising for Apple this time (*gasp!* ;))... my point was that laptops come in handy during a power outage, since your work doesn't go down with it (or a tripped plug, etc.)

But if you want an iBook, you've got my permission! :D

OMG, the number of people who have difficulty with that whole battery thing. I remember the power spiking in our office, and two of the laptop users, as the desktops were rebooting, saying "No, there wasn't a spike, look, my machine didn't go down".

It's at times like those when I remember how annoying it is not to have a cricket bat at work.

Well, I guess it's a double-edged sword then... I'm assuming that skylineGTR_guy is competent enough though to know when a power spike has occurred. :P

(Some people should seriously never even be allowed to look at a computer...)

There are always those backup batteries for power outages. They let you have enough power to save what you're doing and turn off your PC.

I went to the store [Fry's Electronics bought Outpost.com] that holds the Fujitsu 2210-801 and it's really heavy, even without the battery. This was the first time I actually paid attention to the laptops. I went to take a look at the laptop and the mousepad wasn't very sensitive like the Sony's or the HP's :yuck: Although the performance is good, there are better buys from Toshiba and Sony, IMO. There was a more affordable model without the DVD-Rw and the Wi-Fi that costs 200 dollars cheaper, so that may help on the energy consumption.

Did you look at other models other than Fujitsu? It seems like there are better deals with Sony and Toshiba. Anyways, what's so good about Fujitsu?

yes I'm smart enought to know weather a power spike has occured...

I still want a windows based machine becasue WC3 is the only one that will work on a mac that I have...

I want the DVD-RW and NEED the WIFI ( my school supports it and I don't want to have to plug in cables to access my accounts.) but I'm hoping to get something with wireless G

I posted the Fujitsu becasue It has the most value for my money....I built a to shiba with the same specs and it ended up being over 2K.....I'd gladly take a sony becasue thats what I have at home....and Toshibas are really good too....

basically im looking for a 60 gig HD
atleast 512 ram
good vid card atleast 64 mb
windows based (XP)
p4 2.0 or higher (or athlon, its a better proccesor)
dvd,cd-rw,dvd-rw, and floppy drive
WIFI, (wireless G prefered)
15 inch or bigger monitor,
if possible a 2nd battery port that supports hot swapping (switching batteries while the comp is on)
I dont car much for software becasue I already have all I need.
and the basic USB ports,Rj45,NIC etc....

and free shipping would help....that and no tax lol...
