Who here uses Perl?

No, I don't use it directly, although I use functions in PHP that are ported from Perl.

I used to use Perl everyday...its a brilliant language for stuff like mail forms, mailing lists, feedback forms and guestbooks....

i dont use it so much nowadays because i am trying to use php when ever possible...its easier when parsing data and quering databases etc...

but yes..i still use it and advocate it 100%

Is Perl a must if you are going to start a website and are working from a blank server (say you're going to make it a family-email server...)?

NO. its not a must...

you can do it with php if your more familiar with that...

when i was learning web development php was just a baby...so perl was the way to create cgi scripts...
