Title says it all really but who should PD be aiming GT6 at, is there any point in them trying to compete with iracings market or will they tailor GT6 to the vast majority of online GT5 players who just want to slap racing softs on everything and feel like they're Michael Schumacher with the blistering lap times they've set on their unrealistic tyres?

Ok before anyone else feels the need to point it out I know the examples I've given are the extreme ends of the spectrum and as a business PD will just be aiming to get as many customers as possible.

Ok thoughts please.

PD probably doesn't bother with iracing. It's customer base is way smaller than the PD's let alone Sony's. The cats at Turn 10 are more important to them.

It's pretty much going to be what Gran Turismo has always been but only more refined and with more cars/tracks. Console simulators will always fall short of what PC simulators can do, but that's not the end of the world as some people make it out to be.

As for the target market?

Anyone with a PS3.

Indeed. There isn't any point to them competing directly with "real" simulators because:
  • People who play those games won't believe any hype a console game is given towards realism.
  • People who play those games won't stop playing those games to play a console game instead.
  • That market is very small to begin with. That's why the overwhelming majority of time, those types of games are PC only.
  • It would alienate what is probably the majority of the people who buy GT games

Expect PD to change nothing much in regards to marketing from how they positioned GT5. Putting the spotlight and content and features more than physics and accuracy.

These two posts cover it completely. I don't see that there's anything to be added at this point, so... topic over?

It's not that simple as such a marketing strategy usually fails. GT will probably try to fill the same roll it always did. It's a game for auto enthusiasts that tries to appeal for their desire and appreciation for cars through detail and realism and also for those who like the depth of realistic racing.

However, it's not aimed at those who demand only maximum realism and is meant more to provide a fairly good experience across the whole of the automotive landscape instead of focusing on specific niches with maximum detail.

In short car people who think NFS is too arcady, don't or can't buy PC sims and all associated hardware, and those who are interested in simulators and like the wide breadth of the GT series.

In short, the same target GT1-GT5 tries to pursue.

European I guess. Because from this side of the pond people are in majority getting Forza. Maybe those above 30 years old + knows what Gran turismo is but its extremely negligible in America. I have only one co worker that ever played a GT game the past 10 years and they are all a good bunch of video game enthusiasm. You gotta wonder at this point.

Drevenger: I couldn't agree with you more. It's interesting to me how here in the U.S. (well more specifically west coast) there isn't that many GT5 enthusiast within the gaming community. I wish there was a larger Fan base here in California. Maybe there is is just that I haven't found it.

MY dream of the gt series is to make GT6 to cater to what the other gt's did, but then make another separate gt game for the ps3 and/or pc that has more realistic physics, and is up to par with other top sim racers.

but this is just a dream

I know 1 person other than me from the 209 area code... >.< and he drifts... all the time... doesn't do anything else.. in his little tuned RX7...

I would honestly never want GT6 to become like Iracing. Iracing is the hardcore of the hardcore, and I haven't got the time and to indulge in something like that, apart from the fact that I'm also totally not interested in that GT6 should be what GT always was, a combination between a simulator and an accessible racer with lots of cars and tracks, and endless fun. Iracing is Iracing, and GT is GT. Keep it that way please!

Whilst I may agree that some might not like the hardcore element of Iracing I dissagree about time investment.

GT's levelling system at present is a poor grind fest that hinders gameplay.
I think I would find learning Iracing's nuances preferable to grinding F1 cup races 27 times.
Probably less time consuming too.

While it shouldn't have been a grindfest in the first place, GT5 has enough enjoyable parts for which you don't need to level up. Besides, there's almost no need to grind now with the seasonals and the XP bonus.

It's for everyone really, but I do admit I'm somewhat upset at times the lack of support for other countries. What I mean is Cars/Tracks for a country like Australia, Africa, and even America(although compared to the former two it's doing much better).

Still though this is a game for anyone that really likes cars that means everyone even the LCD(Lowest Common Denominator). Really since GT4 I'd call the series a celebration of car history throughout the world.

2 games unlikley but i want a sim game and others want arcade style. the best idea would be to have a option somewhere in the game scale of 1-10 acrcade to sim and you can adjust it to suite yourself. arcade (1) would have ok physics like gt5 and would be a littile more forgiving etc.. (basiclly gt5) and sim (10) (basiclly much better than iracing and would be a hardcore sim) would have dialed in physics a crew chief every racing has one and would be less forgiving and would be a more complex tuning guide etc... you guys get what i mean this would be perfect cause you could cover everyone from pple that slap on racing softs on gt5 and cruise around to pple come from iracing and r factor to gt6

The concept is good but the execution sounds terribly limited. Why tie things to an arbitrary slider? Every option should be separate and we should be able to toggle them individually. No slider, just tick boxes for pit crew, physics type, etc.

9yr olds.

:D
10 year olds
