I forgot them for a month pressed the suffle button on my ipod, loved it again. Had to post this thread.

Seen them live a couple of times and I dont mind them, but never been a massive fan. They seem to headline a festival here in the UK every year, to be honest It gets old always having metallica headlining the festivals.

Lucky, wish they would come to this general area for once.

Well i live in ny and im 14 so you can understand i am "new to the world"

They're good, 'Tallica & Maiden are what got me into metal... it grew from their, now I know tons of awesome metal bands nobody's heard of lol. :sly:

I just got Beyond Magnetic, the four unreleased tracks from Death Magnetic. It's fantastic, and makes up for Lulu (even if I understood what that was about, I can't fathom why it was necessary).

Love Metallica, didn't like St. Anger much although Kill 'Em All, ...And Justice For All, Master of Puppets and the Black album.

I like Metallica.

I still think Thin Lizzy's version of Whiskey In The Jar is better than Metallica's, but that's just my opinion.

The one and only song I like is The Memory Remains (S&M, it must be the S&M version) and I learned of it from Boundary Layer's EVO VIII MR GT4 drift video. 👍

Die hard fan here. Love every album, although St. Anger was a bit low...

@prisoner

Which one? Beyond Magnetic or Lulu?

I'm guessing you're referring to Beyond Magnetic. In which case, I have to say that I thin they made a mistake in not putting Just A Bullet Away on the album. It was much better than The Day That Never Comes, even if it did sound a lot like All Nightmare Long (which is fantastic).

I haven't even heard Lulu all the way yet. I laughed to hard because of I AM THE TABLE :lol:

I got Beyond Magnetic. All the songs were good but I thought the best was Rebel of Babylon. That song stuck out the most. I liked The Day That Never Comes A LOT for some reason. I thought it was perfect. Just a Bullet Away wasn't too bad. Hate Train was good as well. All of it was good, just Rebel of Babylon I thought was best.

I had to say though, I did get a good laugh when he kept saying "suck on the barrel" "till it's dry" over and over though =P

I'm a huge fan if their 80s work, I find their 90s stuff pretty mediocre, and Death Magnetic / Beyond Magnetic were both good comebacks. I find St. Anger terrible, and I haven't bothered with Lulu.

I listen their 80s albums all the time, but I can't chose a favorite between Ride, Puppets and Justice. Kill 'em All is just a little bit behind the other three in my eyes though.

Really? I found Death Magnetic to be repulsive. I much prefer some of their 90's stuff. In a more 'Hard Rock' kind of way.

Outside of Kill Em' All they weren't all that thrashy. But the first 4 albums were real good. Once they decided to rip off other artist work is were they lose me.

I've been lucky enough to see them a bunch of times over the years, and I can't remember any bad shows at all... for me, that's important. They also have one of my all time favorite guitar solos in Creeping Death, just awesome in my mind! Great tunes, great covers and memorable live shows... what's not to like?

Have a good one

Lulu was a very ambitious project, and unusually artsy for a band like Metallica. Thematically, it is one of the most difficult albums to listen to that I know of, and I cannot help but wonder if they consciously chose to make it difficult to physically listen to, what with Lou Reed ranting poetically over repetitive and monotonous riffs. This is particularly evident in The View, which is perhaps the darkest song on the album.

Ultimately, I think it was an interesting creative experiment that simply didn't suit the band. I know Metallica have produced entire albums where all the songs linked by a common theme; Master of Puppets and ... And Justice for All are the clearest examples of this. However, Lulu took this to an entirely new level in an effort to tell a story. This can be done; Dream Theater's Metropolis Pt. 2 - Scenes from a Memory is a prime example of it being done properly, but herein lies the problem. Most of the story is lost in Reed's abstract lyrics, which are based on highly-polarising source material, and concept albums are better-suited to progressive acts like Dream Theater, rather than Metallica.

In the end, I think Lulu is a giant catch-22. You cannot get into it without understanding the themes and ideas, but you cannot understand the themes and ideas without getting into the actual album. If you had half an hour, then I could probably explain it to you if you wanted me to - I'm an English teacher, so working this stuff out is my job - but I doubt that does much for the actual music and lyrics.

I used to be big into metallica but the only thing I have in my library now is Ride The Lightning. Everything else kinda sucks.

Lulu will probably end up being like The Velvet Underground. Hated when new, but a cult classic 30 years later.

@Prisoner

I have an English teacher who is into all that stuff too lol. I'll have to give it a listen someday soon.

I like all of Metallica's albums but St. Anger was garbage. The Black Album was great though. Same with Master. You can't improve on perfection. Ride the Lightning was great as well, as was Kill 'Em All. Eh they were all great. Death Magnetic around my area is hailed as a great comeback album. I can't wait for the "new" Black album that's supposedly next, as they have said the new album is supposed to be a heavier version of the Black album.

Still would love someone to explain this to me.

And I'll post my favorite song by them..

The energy.. the speed.. that riff.. :\

Love it better on the album. Live isn't bad though. Love the "**** rash" scream in the middle of the solo lol.
