Who here is still buying physical formats (CD, DVD-A, SACD, BD, vinyl)?

For music, I tend to purchase individual songs digitally, and if I like the song that I have purchased, I will more than likely purchase the CD that artist has released.

I feel like having physical copies of music gives a deeper connection to the artist, especially today. Some albums, I just buy it online and forget about it until it comes on shuffle randomly.

Also, I love having the 320kbps music on hand, ready to pull off of CD at any moment.

For music, I always buy the physical copy if I can (some albums I buy are only available electronically). I love reading liner notes and having a physical collection, of both CDs and vinyl. For movies and console video games, I only have them physically. PC games are a mixed bag, mostly electronic (through Steam) these days.

As said earlier, tangibility is a big deal, especially for albums when the liner notes will give you lots of information you otherwise wouldn't be able to acquire. And personally, I'd rather grab a case from a shelf than dig through sub folders and double click an icon.

I am beginning to collect CDs, mostly retro rap albums. There's just that certain satisfaction I get from physically owning it, ya know? I currently have 12, no intention of stopping.
Update: up to about 50. Still no intention of stopping. Dozen or so I'd like to get when I have the money.

I have around 500-600 CDs. I don't buy them anymore though. I really don't listen to them all that much either. I have a pretty big Sony CD player with Sub woofer, I just don't use it much. I went through a phase where I collected CDs, and I did listen to them a lot too.

Good thread.

For my movies - Blu-ray discs unless it's a special collector's edition that is only available on DVD. I'll never buy digital movies unless they're not DRM-protected, and the quality matches or exceeds what's available on Blu-ray discs.

For my music - I listen/discover through Spotify and I buy the CD.

I've currently got a collection of exactly 300 CDs, some collector's edition hybrid SACDs as well and about 500 vinyl records that my parents left me.

I will say that the Cross Buy or whatever Microsoft is calling it for the XBone might be the first thing that will actually make me pursue digital purchases on consoles.

If I like the whole album, I go on Amazon and order the CD. But Amazon is a rip off when it comes to shipping. Anywhere between $4-6 continental US is too much.
Have you considered Prime? Most CDs will have shipping covered by that. Taking a quick look at ebay is something I always do as well, so you might want to consider that.

I can't stand not having full albums though. Makes it a real pain if there's a song I want that wasn't on one of the band's studio albums.

I don't buy enough there to justify the cost. It depends on the artist. If I like the whole album, I get the CD and rip it to my computer with dBpoweramp and place it in my iTunes library.

Ah, got it.

Dbpoweramp is great. Good for people like me who get a bit obsessive over tagging.

EAC does well too if you want freeware. I just don't think it has the same tagging options and EAC is noticeably slower too. That is a big disadvantage when you have lots of discs to rip.

I dont have space for everything I'm watching/listening at my place. It saves tons of places to have manga/books/CD/Game in digital.
