whos hoping gt5 will support 3d

Given the fact that there is alot of work going on with blue ray 3d format, hdmi 1.4 supporting 3d (which ps3 slim uses), and the games developers looking to standardise a 3d format.

And with the relase of the first 3d game from blitz studio (ok it's requires the old red and blue glasses rather than the newer type glasses)

Who other than me is hoping that GT5 will support somekind of 3d? (And i'm not talking about 3d images rendered on a 2d screen)

I'm hoping that sony will make a big push for 3d next year and leverage the ps3 as one of the first devices to support 3d blue ray films and therefore also games. (nvidia already have a kit http://www.itp.net/573594-nvidiasamsung-3d-gaming-kit and given the fact that the ps3 has an nvidia graphics gpu, should be just a firmware update in my mind!)

So assuming your tv can handle it and you can buy the glasses it would be amazing great fun racing GT5 in full 3d!

There was a demo already with 3D Motorstorm PR, GT5P and something easel.. So I can not see why not? But, I think GT5 will require the new TVs and the new style glasses not red and green ones.

It would be impressive for sure but I have my doubts as rendering load for a game as complex as GT5 seems like it would almost certainly press the PS3 beyond it's limits...

But I hope we see something too, why not? I think 3d is the next frontier for gaming...

if its anything like the recent spate of naff 3d movies then no thanks.

i have never experienced head aches like it, all for the pleasure of a few naff effects and looking like a twit with uncomfortable glasses on.

I don't think we will see much 3D until next generation, than if there is still enough demand for it they can make the system able to handle it better.

I would rather see a revolution in gaming goggles + IR tracker. So you can look in any direction and the ultra small full HD twin screens in your goggles show exactly the direction you are looking at... :D

edit: of course the two twin screens will show a slightly different angle so you get the real depth in the picture...

Yep, I saw this, but no one knew how it was achieved, so it may have been two ps3's, special hardware inbetween etc.

I have a plasma, so as long as it can support 100hz (or 120hz in non pal areas) I think this maybe achievable - I may consider upgrading if gt5 was really that good.

This was the next frontier, at a certain point.

hdmi 1.4 supports 3d only at (24-30fps, 1080p). Cables are same and there is no new bandwith. Also current 120Hz tvs do not support 120hz input. Also PS3 does not have power to run GT5 at 120 fps. Case closed.

isnt what you just said conflicting? the #d is only at 24-30 FPS so why would they need to run it at 120? but im sure PD could get GT5 to run at 120 FPS if they spent time streamlining there coding. that was one of the reasons sony only put 256 MB of ram for the GFX and 256 for the cpu. to force developers to stream line there coding. only problem is its hard for developers to streamline there code to make it as effecient as posible on the PS3 since they havnt had time to adapt to the new format for the PS3. im sure GT5 will have better coding the GT5P because they have the experience from GT5P but i dont think they will have the game run at a higher FPS because of it but it will give them more room to play with.

but GT5P was shown to be able to run in the 3D at a showing of the technology.

You may have a point about the refresh rate input, but given that GT is 60 frames per second, I'd be happy for 30 frames per second per eye in 3d (so still 60 frames per second in total).

Just realised that you need 100/120hz for the glasses to work, so you would need this as the input refresh rate.

I would be happy with a 720p game... Actually if I just walked by a 42" HDTV running GT5 Prologue I would never see the difference between 720p and 1080p.

2 PS3s?

They hook up 4 PS3s on 1080p TV to archive 240FPS.

Didn't that leaked feature list mention something about the PSEye being able to track your head? Like the trackIR?

That is a great start, but it wouldnt work very well with a racing game since a driver usually don't run around :)

I would disagree because you can always reprogram the game to respond to different movements. For example, when experiencing G-force in the corner you can move your head to see around the corner or even better use this technology to get better visibility on elevation changes. Also isn't something like this coming to GT5 according to the 'Leaked' spec sheet?

Supposedly, but I'm not sure if it is going to be the classic turn your head type stuff, although one translation did mention 3D head tracking which would mean if you move your napper towards the screen the camera would move forward in the car, sounds sweet !! Stick your head out of the window and smell the at Eiger, can't wait.

30 seconds per eye doesn't work quite like that...

Since each eye sees slightly differnet angles, you would either have to interlace it and show alternating fields to each eye which would give you 60 fps but major tearing between what each eye sees, or you would show the slightly different view at 30fps to each eye simultaneously which would still be 30 fps.

Remember 120hz for 3d is so you can show 2 60hz frames simultaenously, one for each eye, so you can still get 60 frames per second.

Running games in 3d is no small feet... I am not sure how they did the existing demoes (perhaps they were running at half res or on special hardware) but I am sure getting GT5 to run 1080p 60hz is a solid challenge... getting it to render each frame twice from different angles? I highly doubt we will see that from GT5.

-> Here is another good one for people who carrries a:

BT-> The 1st headtracking vid was for Wii fans; here is for the PS3:

- Sorry there is no sound on this vid:

But if I move my head I move it away from the TV, so it feels kinda weird to look away to see where I'm going.

Switch it off then, simple.

As for the middle video above, supposedly showing PS3 head tracking, where was the PS3, the PS Eye? just looks identical to the Wii demo, apart from the fact that the guy actually showed how it worked.

Wow that's amazing.

I'm trying to figure out how this would work when you sit fairly still to play gt5.

I'm also trying to imagine if you had a hydraulic chair would this make it more immersive.

Or will it be purely used to work out if you are sitting close to the tv or far away and therefore give you a more realistic cockpit view.

Anyway it seems like this could be the first step towards some interesting games especially with the new controller next spring.

Until technology allows me to view 3D with out where cumbersome glasses, then I dont care much for it.

Technology already allows this, its called reality. Unless you mean your waiting for consoles to output holograms or something, that might take a while.

I'm glad GT5 is using head tracking, but I dont think the question here is will GT5 support 3D or will any game specifically support 3D. 3D is something that the PS3 should support via firmware update so it will work for all games or none. Something like if you have the proper TV, go to display settings and turn on/off 3D.
