Why do some people have a different font/colour for all their posts?

OK我癖习中文?

Oh, wait, completely wrong font language.

I messed up my keyboard last week and ended up with some spaced out font but forgot how I did it.

There's a specific setting on Chinese computers which makes typing Chinese easy but makes western letters spaced out and in a strange font. I'll have a play with the keyboard and see what happens.

It could be the big red S programme that you have. You activate it by pressing Control and Shift. Then you press Shift and Space at the same time (well, hold Shift down and press the Space bar once) and hey presto!

spaces all the time. Which is always very difficult to read!

But when it comes to Chinese, its perfect. 你好. Bizarre.

Well, I think I have to change my post style, do I?

How is this?

Or this?

How about this one?

Which one is more comfortable to read?
Or the one I have is good enough?

Thanks Submerged! You did it! I feel like typing like this from now on!!! :)

Ahhh, smileys don't work, nor does my spellcheck.

Yeah, it doesn't work very well due to the coding of the programme really messing up the web browser text reading capabilities!

And that's really quite hard to read!

Btw, to de-activate it, just re-press Shift and Space again and it'll be back to normal. You can see if it works if the programme shows a big blue circle or a half moon crescent. Big blue circle = spaces.

I did try typing in different colours, but a long time ago I realised it was just better to keep it standard and simple. Most people are fairly happy to read black text on white, as its as close to reading on paper. I just leave the coloured text to certain people as it makes it easier to know who is saying what when you leave the colours to specific people.

Plus, if everyone started typing in different colours, it'll be a mish-mash of rainbow on the web page and it's just a mess. And weird.

Yeah, I have to say I prefer the black standard text just because it keeps the page uniform, but sometimes it is helpful to identify a member before anything else is seen, just by the colour of their text.

Eh I have color vision deficiency so I have a hard time when people type in some colors but it's not that bad on GTP. Some forums it's almost impossible for me to see posts.

What I hate though is when people type in Comic Sans, and it's more then just on the Internet. It's te worse font in the entire world and it's one of those pet peeves that I can't get past.

It's been a while since I learned about this font's... umm, high inpopularity, and I still can't understand it. :indiff:

It's awful, childish and hard to read. It really irks me when I get a professional e-mail written in Comic Sans. The last place I worked at was part of a multi-billion dollar a year healthcare conglomerate and I routinely received e-mails from people making 6 or 7 figures in Comic Sans. You're a professional, not a 4th grader.

Leave comic font to comics, and even then most comics I read don't even use a variant of it.

Same deal here (with the colour deficiency); I'm fine unless people type in green or in faint red. The worst was in my elementary school, we had green chalkboards, and the teacher sometimes would write with red chalk :ouch:. I find Famine's posts easier to read, but when I first joined here I had no idea they were indigo, I always thought they were dark blue .

Pffft. You're not even trying.

How about this ? :dopey: :sly:

It's awful, childish and hard to read.

+1. It's so silly. The "hey everyone look at my flamboyant light purple" posts irk me the most about this site. I really don't think some people have any consideration for dyslexics, such as myself. Not only is it childish and irrelevant, but I can't read it. Thankfully I'm on the Droid 95% of the time so it doesn't pick that crap up.

I don't mind people using colors, but don't be 'that guy' who puts his name at the end of every post, it's completely unnecessary and should get you a slap.

A sign off is the same thing as coloured text - it's a way of being an attention whore distinguishing themselves from other people.

[/irony]

As someone said..to make your post more distinguishable?
I am gonna start. I'd like for people to see the color/font and say "that must be a post by Eks" or something.

I think I might go with this. For Christmas ya know?

I guess you could ask why someone's got an avatar, too. Or a signature. It's all just a bit of attention-whoring, no?

Come to think of it... Most presentations I've seen at work (or otherwise) are trying to circumvent the rather harsh black/white contrast these days.

Wait, colored text is for attention whores? Then you people should all type in green. :D

Cue: "What do you mean you people..." response.

I used to type all in standard, but after becoming a mod, I got bored. You've got to do something to let off the stress after banning your twelfth thirteen-year old. Went through a few colors before settling on this.

Because it's inoffensive, hopefully easy to read and not too drecky.

Funny thing. My first moderation position, a looooong time ago, was on a board where ALL the text was purple... and boldface. Thus I don't find colored posts all that unusual, though light-colored fonts and thin fonts are obviously hard to read.

or:

Why do some people communicate by posting pictures/memes?

or:

Why do some people communicate by posting pictures/memes?
Because it's become an easy way to get a pre-baked message across?

Memes are like symbols in the real world, really. Someone posts the "are you kidding me" guy and you immediately know what he's trying to express. Plus, people are getting sillier by the day

And so is corner cutting. :P

I actually find this quite 'annoying' to read. :P
That, and 'certain people' who write even smaller and make it a 'peachy' colour. ;)

I tried writing in different colours and sizes, but just got bored of having to edit every post. I would do it if we had an option that let us make a default size/colour. Seems like a no-brainer idea. :)

^Sounds even worse than how akmuq's profile used to look here in GTP before it changed, basically it was red text against a blue background.
