Have been pondering this for a while since I felt that the Gran Turismo series was moving away from what I want from it and more towards what PD perceive their customer base wants. Don't get me wrong, I still like GT6 and sit here with the racing chair and wheel out, but it is missing the sweet spot for me more than GT5.

Personally, I want competitive racing, challenges that take time to master, I don't want to blast past everything on the first straight and get gold on licences and special events on my first attempt.

I've ignored the "I want " + <insert graphical detail> or "better sounds are a must" brigade in the poll as I don't believe people buy, play and keep coming back because they want to torture themselves over what graphical or aural details are missing. I think people come back for one of the reasons in the poll, if there is another that I've missed I'll be happy to add it.

EDIT: Can't seem to add another option as per the first few posts. Something like "I like racing games" fits.

Everyone plays GT6 for the fun, but why is it fun for you?

I play it just for fun and because I want to play a more realistic racing game then for example Need for Speed. Not that I don't like the Need for Speed series, I enjoy them as much as GT, but from time to time, something more realistic is fun.
I'm far from any good at the game, so competitive racing is far from why I play the game.

I play and continue for personal enjoyment only. I'm no Sebastian Vettel and I can't tune a whistle let alone a car but I get home from a stressful day, switch on my trusty PS3 and enjoy de-stressing with a blast on GT6.

I can't select any of your choices as none really fit for me

Damn @Sjorge beat me to it :D

Indeed, after a stressful day, switch on the ps3, pick a car and off I go. I also can't tune.

Offtopic: Maybe you're up for some online races? Check my topic in the online races section. ;)https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/for-starters.297153/

Cheers. Can't seem to modify the poll, I would add "I like racing games" as the idea behind the question is around how you define your version of fun and what in GT6 encapsulates that.

No problem, I was going to check "to drive the cars" but that is only a very small part of why I enjoy it. Hope my reluctance to vote doesn't spoil your poll though.

I'm kinda in between here, I play to be competitive BUT with my friends online. Online is where most of my time goes, if not, hot lapping hot lapping online, feels nicer to me as there's other cars on the track compared to solo.

To drive, collect, admire and take photographs of the cars I love.

Same. I'm not competitive by nature, so I don't particularly like playing online against live people since there's always going to be someone better than you out there, so why bother (plus, it's not good for my high blood pressure, lol).

But I do like collecting thing and I'm a car lover and that's what I love about GT6.

Just me, the car and the track. That's what I get pleasure out of.

i love to improve , gt6 is , a game , where you instantly feel or see your improvement .
that's one amongst many reasons i like this game , also , once you had a great online race , and your hands are shaking after it , i like that !
see you guys on track!

Something about going around a tight corner at high speeds just makes me grin I guess. I like learning the handling characteristics of a car and then driving it around a track as quickly as possible considering its limitations. And hitting the corners just right is satisfying as well. I like the challenge of keeping the fastest cars under control, and of taking the corners perfectly in the slower cars.

I've always been a bit of a car guy so seeing gorgeous Pagani's and Ferrari's gets me going, and since I'll never be able to drive cars like that in real life, the computer generated alternative is exciting enough for me.

I've opted for "to drive the cars". GT6 helps me re-enact (the car part of) a playboy lifestyle. The career mode is there to fund my need to buy cars and to test them stock with a strict set of rules on 7 of the real world circuits. I do always try and complete the career mode rather than grinding. I enjoy the racing but particularly like taking a car and trying to improve my laptimes in it and to compare it with similar cars.

For me I just like to race. GT is the only game I play (occasionally Tiger Woods 14, not in a long time though). Spent the last year playing GT5, Now its 6. Ordering a wheel this week. Some day would like to try online races but am afraid, dont want to go into a room and crash into someone on the 1'st corner and look like an idiot. Also not big on chatting, just want to race and not have to chat during or after a race,(no mic anyway) I'm a recluse lol

you just should try , some people are very dirty , i'm sure that just because you don't want to bump others , and it's great , you won't have many crashes .

I really enjoy online "free run" lobby's as well as the odd race, they kind of work similar to a trackday/time attack format so your hot-lapping against each other trying to beat the best lap. If someone catches me up I'll simply give them racing room to get by and then try and stay with them. Had great fun doing this at Bathurst the other day with a chap who seemed to have the same sentiment.

Just be picky who you race with and you'll be fine.

To drive around the cars, have a blast with the photomode and enjoy a virtual automotive experience which is very unique, and an insight in Japanese gaming and car culture like no other.

The handling model's not challenging, but that means that it's also not frustrating: it will reward a right driver behavior while not punishing you by sending you careening into a wall if you push the throttle that 1% too hard. The same applies to the AI which is programmed to let you win if you don't mess up too badly.

And there's enough cars and tracks to keep me entertained for ages.

Besides, there's that je ne sais quoi that keeps me hooked to Gran Turismo. It is an experience so refined and well-designed that I can overlook even major, glaring flaws that have been with the series since its inception.

I have owned all of the GT titles so first off I am a fan of the series. This time around though, after being disappointed with a number of aspects of GT5, this purchase was less fan driven but more of wanting a driving game because I have been playing shooters for the better part of 2013.

So with that out of the way, at its core, I enjoy driving the cars, racing them, customizing them and building an amazing collection. I am a car guy and although I find the selection of cars dated and missing a number of key additions, I still look past that disappointment and enjoy what is there.

I love online gaming but racing games largely have poor online content as there are too many hacks and goofs wanting to race but have no talent or self control. That said, I have joined a couple groups and find the competition fun. I was part of a racing league on Shift2 and that was a tremendous amount of fun, with some amazing completion and close racing. I am hoping for that same experience with the groups I have joined here.

Finally, the community functions of GT5 brought a great deal of life to the driving genre. I enjoyed racing my Bobs, trading cars and gifts, and taking a part in the growth of my friends career and collections. So with it missing from GT6 it is a massive fail , but I understand some of that is to come via update, so I will enjoy that feature when it is finally added.

edit - I love using photomode and I cant believe I missed it in my original post. I enjoy being creative and photomode's features make this another ground breaking feature for this genre.

For all the reasons in your OP.

But the biggest reasons are these two:
1) I can drive many of the cars I experienced first-hand when I lived in PD's home country.
2) I can drive a huge variety of both left and right-hand drive cars of all different types.

I'm a little surprised more people haven't said "play online with my mates." I made some great friends in a race league I joined in GT5, and we're about to start our first season in GT6 this weekend. Sure I collect and drive cars, but 95% of the time I'm on GT6 it's either racing with my friends, or practicing for an upcoming race against my friends.

I've played gran turismo since the demo disc when i brought my very first playstation 1. I've also golded everything. Every race, license and mision that has come out. (except the GT5 vettel challenge as i do use the DS3) Its a passion as well as a game...

I think the options apply to everyone an varying quantities, though I would play online if I had friends, as it is I only stay offline :( lol

I first played Gt1 because loved cars and loved realistic driving games. I think in Gt2 or 3 I stopped getting fun out of winning with a car tuned to the max and blating the oppo away. its like supporting Chelsea/
barcelona etc instead of Stockport/Espanyol the simple fact of winning is great for some just so you can be a "winner" but not everyone wants to win easily and some enjoy the close competition and the heartache of a near miss as much as the winning. If you take winning for granted you will never appreciate it as as much as someone who rarely experiences it.

It's pretty much the same for me. GT6 is my first ever gt game, so for now I'm still kept busy with the offline part. I hope to be doing some online racing at some point though.
Feel free to add me if you want someone ear to your timezone (I'm at GMT+1)
