Why do you still play GT3?

GT3 was actually the first video game I ever played, after my son got me interested. I enjoy the racing games and I played GT4 and now GT5. But, for some reason, I still enjoy going back and starting a new GT3 career.

I got bored with GT4, and now I'm bored with GT5.

I'm not sure what it is about GT3. I'm not a big car enthusiast or techie, it seems the game is just more fun than the newer versions.

Why do you guys still play it?

I just got it a couple months ago. I still need to finish it, but I don't really like GT3 seeing I can't put a rear wing on my car. try to win a Championship with a 591 HP Viper GTS against CR5s, Team Orecas and JGTC NSXs (I like the challenge) without being able to add a rear wing for necessary downforce. my car just keeps sliding off the track, even with ASM off

Why?...well, I'm afraid there isn't enough words that can describe why. And I say this being perfectly aware that there's thousand of verbs and adjectives in the English language that could come pretty close.

After beating the beans out of GT2, my next sept would be GT3. I got a brand new PS3 Christmas 2001, and along with it came GT3. I was already a sucker for the Gran Turismo name, and I was in for one hell of a ride...

Back then all my school "friends" had the bad habit of never returning borrowed items, and due to my naiveness I lost the GT3 disc for the first time. I was heart broken, because for the first time I found a way of expressing the love I had for cars. Nothing came as close as GT3 in saying how much I loved cars. And for a 11 year old boy, who spends most of his time alone, GT3 was the only true friend that I had.

At the age of 14 I was forced to move to the big city along with my parents due to serious financial problems. After things picked up a bit, my parents were able to afford buying me a new GT3 disc, and I was over the moon...until I feel for the same trick again.

And then, one day, at the age of 16, I got myself some pocket money. GT3 was history by now, all the heat was on the upcoming GT4 instead. But I still wanted GT3. I walked all over town, store after store looking for GT3, but I couldn't find it...until, at 10pm in the evening (nearly 6 hours later after I started my quest) I finally found it! Needless to say I spent the entire night playing it.

Maybe I got carried away with the story, but I'd like to point out that video games (for ANY platform) are extremely expensive in Portugal, they make nearly 20% of the minimum monthly payment of a full time job.

I still play Gran Turismo 3, because it reminds me of a simpler time. I can really go back to it any time, and enjoy it every time. The intro (PAL) still brings a tear to my eyes even today.
Sadly, my technique has evolved too much, and I can't drive at all with the simulation in GT3. The PS2 controller it's too sensitive, and I fail to control the cars, as I'm too much used to GT5 now.

...now ignore this sob story, and just go play GT3, I promise it will make you feel good about yourself! :dopey:

I loved playing GT3 and GT4 as a kid, it was just so much fun being a n00b and using the Escudo (like an idiot) in endurance races. I just thought it was the most fun. I played that game until April 2010, unfortunately my good 'ol PS2 broke down. I haven't had a large need to buy a PS2 again since I just bought an Xbox (Major sin) and I've been playing Forza and GT5 for a while. I just bought a new PS2 the other week and I can't stop playing GT3, its just such a good car selection and the gameplay is MUCH different then GT5..Events are generally the same, but still..I hope that the people who still play GT3 enjoy as much as me and the other people in this thread.

1. GT3 is the first racing game I truly fell in love with -- I had fun with GT1 and GT2 but I did not *love* them.
2. GT3 has better physics than GT2 or GT4.
3. It is easy to find a challenging race with close competition -- competition that neither leaves you in the dust nor that you leave in the dust. E.g. take a ZZII to the Pro World Championship and try to beat that GTOne and R390LM. It can be done but it is tough.
4. In GT3, I can take an absolutely perfect racing line... it's just such a beautiful thing, whereas it is tough for me to get a perfect line in GT4 and GT5.
5. GT3 is *so pretty* :D

EDIT: Also GT3 has six different F1 cars, which is really cool... GT4 has just one and GT5 has three I think.

I still play the old thing because it was my first Gran Turismo game ever. I'm not exactly sure why I persist to play the thing on my old PS2, but I think it may be because of how long it was. My first playthrough (I got it in 2004... so I was about 7 years old so bear with me) took my a full year of hardcore racing. It was also the game that unleashed my passion for cars.

So that is why, I think, I play GT3 to this day.

Nostalgia. Playing GT3 brings me back so many years, to a simpler time when I didn't have a care in the world. And the game rock solid in todays world of racing games.
It's also fun to put some sim tires on an S2000 or RX-7 and just run laps.

I actually went and thought about this for a while. I was a big fan of the first game. To me Gran Turismo 3 feels like a perfected version of the first game. It's got good graphics, a great 'feel' and still has the attitude of the first 2 games. It's just big enough to satisfy a hardcore gamer yet easy enough to jump into. After 11 years I still play this game obsessively.

because I've never played gt3 and I finaly found it for a reasonable price last november i believe... since then I've been playing it! but If I ever get gt2 or gt4 again I might play them but gt3 will still be the best..

This. Also for the tracks.

Mostly finished with careermode in gt5 (lack some endurance races), and wanted more. Never finsihed gt3 and my brother had a crt tv i could borrow, so it were an easy choice.
And already got a new copy of gt4 ready, for once i'm finished with #3 :)

Out of all the games in the series in my opinion, GT3 had the most memorable soundtrack. Racing an endurance while GoldFinger or Grand Theft Audio rocking my TV's speakers was very exciting and kept me on the edge of my seat. Even though I was younger when I've played this game, I was more impatient and would pause the game and do something else for a while and then finally come back to finish the race. But I remember winning my very first F1 car ever in the 100 lap Super Speedway endurance. Oh that teal and green F090/S won me so many races...

I got all the F1's now, and I have all the other collectable cars in the game. I was pretty much bored with the game, and so I let other close people borrow the game.

edit:
Toyota GT-One Road Car <---No other GT has that
I cried a little on the inside when I found out the car wasn't in GT5. It was also a car you could purchase in the Toyota Dealership in GT2.

That 1089 HP Toyota GT-One Road Car also won me a lot of races. It was personally my favorite car in GT3

I don't, because I don't play many video games. (Except Sonic Unleashed and Generations, which I'm always playing at my friends.)

Yea the gt one is my favourite too. I jumped for joy when I found out that I could get it so easily. Only problem is tha unlike the gt one race car, u can't wheelie it. 😠

1. The memories. I remember when I beat arcade mode for the first time. I felt so happy and proud of myself! unfortunately, I was around 6-7 years old then, so I was dumb enough to forget to save the game afterwards :grumpy:.

2. The awesome, vivid colors and graphics. When I saw SSR11 for the first time, I just stared at the screen like .

3. The amazing, fun tracks that weren't featured in gt5, like SSR11, Seattle Circuit, Apricot Hill Raceway, etc.

4. It was the last game to feature the GT-One Road Car and many other classic cars. we'll miss you, GT-One :( :( :( :(

5. The game still appeals to me, even after 11 years :)

yes, they can. I don't think there's a way to transfer the save games from a memory card to the ps3, though.

My PS1 memory card with a 100% completed game save on it got corrupted anyway. :ouch:
If that seems like a difficult thing for one to go through as an adult, imagine how that was for a little kid with autism. :(

well, be happy that you've ever completed as gt game; I've been a gran turismo fan ever since 2000 and I've never completed a gt game in my life :ouch:

1 major reson i go back to play gt3 was for the music, the music selection was great and even by todays standerds i think the way the cars handle better than NFS shift 2, pretty sad that a god knows how old game is better than a new one lol but we all know thats just how good the GT series is and the maps also i got kinda mad when i saw that gt5 dident put some of the maps that gt3 had like seattle map and ss12 i think but yeah thats y i like to still play the best gt game besides gt5 cuz the 4th one sucked:D

👍 And don't forget SSR11 :D

A few reasons. As with a number of people in this thread, GT3 was the first in the series that I truly clicked with. Some of the high points - predictable physics/handling, pressure sensitive acceleration, ground breaking visuals. Sadly we'll never see that massive generational leap again.

GT4 and 5 are excellent titles, though I found the actual game structure to be a bit of a chore. Yep, more cars, more tracks, more modes - yet somehow sterile and less fun. The new underexposed look and washed out colours perfectly reflected my waning interest in the series.

GT5 made GT4 completely obsolete - more of the same in HD. When I occasionally pop GT3 back into the old PS2, it feels vibrant and nostalgic - a fond reminder of my time on GTP.

How did you get a GT3 in GT3? (Just realized.)

The car can be found in the NTSC and NTSC-J versions of the game (but it's hidden and can only be used with a Gameshark code, obviously), But I don't know if it can be found in the PAL version or not.

EDIT: I just looked online. It's not in the PAL version at all.

Is it any different in performance to the RGT?

I've never driven the Porsche before, nor do I even have a Gameshark, so I have no idea. I'm guessing that the Ruf has better handling and specs, though.

1. Because I don't have Xbox360 (I know this is GTPlanet, but still I'm not buying a console for only 1 game).
2. Because I've still got some races to win in Gran Turismo\Simulation Mode.
3. Last but not least, GT3 is a lot of FUN! Take this for example:

Just recorded it today, had a blast!
