There are several great videos in this thread! Thanks for sharing them, guys... đź‘Ť I really liked this video, in particular, as you can really see how much the car dives when getting heavy on the brakes and there is quite a bit of body roll as well. Of course, this was all obviously planned by the engineers.

The Ferrari F40 and McLaren F1 are quite possibly my two favorite cars of all time. They came out just at the perfect time, in my life, for a teenager to be lusting after such objects - and they absolutely destroyed everything else on the road except maybe the Porsche 959, but truthfully, I don't know much about the 959. I thought it was hideous at the time (still do) and it just never excited me enough to research it.

What do you guys think about the Porsche 959 in relation to the McLaren F1 and Ferrari F40, @MclarenGT amd @Ridox2JZGTE? You know how much I love the F40, Ridox...I have 5 of your replica's in my Garage. :D It could become 6 at any moment...

Porsche 959, now that's a car that should also be in latest car/racing games :) I wonder if the 959 can keep up with F40 or F1 at the track like Tsukuba ?

No 956 will not beat both of them in ideal condition. In wet condition it may beat the mclaren. The porsche will not be available in GT games because porsche agreed an exclusive deal with EA.If you want to drive porsche play Real Racing 3,NFS Shift, etc.

What surprises me of the F1 is its cornering speed which is onpar with the modern supercars inspite of old tires and body rolls.

I have tested 60-0 for cars like MP4-12c,459 italia,Veyron, aventador,Enzo and F1 had the poorest braking distance among them.

I think you were right about high downforce mode.Gordon Murray told that in high downforce mode it generated twice or thrice the downforce it produced in normal mode in this video and Andy Wallace says that it is the best car in the world and feels like it is not moving at 270kph.So it was the ameritech version which had stability issues and produced .86g.

This video is worth watching and will make anyone realise how uncompromised the car was.It was also tested at silverstone during development.
F1 is still today the best car in the world ever created both in GT6 and real life.Yes,it won't beat a Huayra or P1 around a track but can still beat great cars like Enzo,Aventador,MP4-12c,Veyron and many more around a track even with its old braking and tire technology. It has even allegedly done 7:11 at Mika Hakkinen's hand.

Do you have a source that says anything about a high downforce mode?
Where did Gordon Murray say this?

I did extensive research on the McLaren F1 road car for a project and this "high downforce mode" is news to me.

The high downforce mode is the mode when the kevlar fans are put on.If you want the source go to wikipedia.See the video from 11:00 to see gordon murray explaining about the car's aerodynamics.

Oh, so you're talking about the active rear spoiler (active only under braking, fully automated).

The Wikipedia article uses Best Motoring as a source and it's referring to the same active rear spoiler.

The McLaren F1 doesn't have a "high downforce mode".

No,high downforce mode is when it uses kevlar fans i.e sucks air from the ground using ground effect. The rear spoiler can be activated or deactivated if you want but you have to do it manually set it up before driving the car.
