Why driving license requirement?

From my experience in cars, no ABS in GT5 is quite unrealistic. I haven't been in a no ABS car yet IRL where you need to worry about how hard you're braking.

No offense, getting no assist from the game ( doing it yourself on your own ) when braking is unrealistic ?:ill: Using no assist is the closest you can be ( without interference ) in a game/sim, unless the sim/game can perfectly simulate/replicate the real life system. We all know ABS in GT5 is not even trying to replicate how real life ABS works. It's just a simple brake assist that perform like a magical perfect brake system - more like perfect smart EBD system than ABS. PD's treatment of stock 5/5 BB is another sign of their ignorance to simulating brake system and an indicator that ABS is just a fancy label.

When you have a GT game with non slider style ABS on cars, meaning you get whatever ABS system it came with in real life ( can be turned off still, like in real life ) - whether it's 4 channel system or other types - and it perform like in real life - there's a threshold when it kicked in and you can see the brake force being modulated by the system ( with effectiveness depending on car's tune, brake condition ( fade ), tire, road condition and ABS type ) - maybe I'll give ABS a try ;), The only upgrade is balance controller ( stock car came with real stock bias ) + brake hardware. Other than that, PD's label of ABS is nothing but poor effort of make believe of real system.

My 1st car in real life when I learned to drive was a manual, non power steering, pre 80's Toyota Corona 2000, it has weak brakes ( no ABS of course ) and I managed to lock up the one of the front wheels more than once when my old man tutored me how to drive - I was 15, that's when he taught how to properly turn the steering wheel quickly from lock to lock, heel/toe and modulate the brakes :D You should drive no ABS car in real life, preferably old cars with drum brakes at the rear and disc brakes at the front, real eye opener  or simply pull out your ABS fuse:sly:

Better stick with either one, and never go back  I never use ABS in GT5 or GTA 2013 or any previous GTA, I can never go back to ABS  It's hard and requires commitment, especially when racing in a league or club like Deadnutseven. I did try ABS when I 1st time drive a car in GT5, felt weird and out of this world, turned it off, and I fell in love.

i didnt even try abs when i got wheel i was already driving pad with no abs with square pmsl.. yeah am also in a league probably the hardest league in GT5 in terms of grip of tyre an no aids which also means no abs lol.. i guess i dont like abs braking style with foot flat down.. but the force you use for pedal is probably nothing compared to real life.. brake travel, leg reach movement all different i guess.. but we all know this :)

My point was, no ABS GT5 cars seem to lock up a lot easier than the no ABS cars I've driven IRL, then again I've only driven light race cars :P

What car is it? I've only driven lighter cars, but even the light cars in GT5 seem to lock up really easily without ABS, apart from the F1 cars.

Yeah i think the downforce changes the F1 Cars or really any car with lot of downforce.. GT500 etc.. feel like abs1 with abs0 i guess if you (not you just in general lol) drive car right you shouldnt notice, because after all abs is a steering assist it lets you brake harder an turn wheel.. but if you modulate brake it should be fine.. i race alot of Road Cars CM Tyres etc an the trick is to brake as less as possible carrying the speed.. so you would instantly 3 quater an then half an hold it up an down.. fully braking would upset the balance for me, everyone has their own steering style inputs an ffb used.. i use 10 on GT5 i think this gives more feedback of tyre limit.. in my head lol..

Yeah sorry lol.. i havent driven IRL yet i guess thats iRacing?? yeah am not saying no abs is more realistic... i believe that the braking involved that isnt fully down untill the apex is more real.. i think the pressure involved in braking in sim's is wrong but i think gforce has alot to do with pressure in real life.. how hard can you brake in your jedi?? i know its light an with light cars i dont think the weight affects as much as heavier car..

In my Jedi I just push as hard as I can on the brake unless it's wet in which case it's quite a bit easier to lock a brake, but still not as easy as most cars I've driven in GT5 without ABS. I've driven a Ginetta G40 before which I could brake quite hard in with no hint of a lock up, and also driven a Lotus Exige, although I'm not sure if that had ABS or not.

Great reading posts from people who race.. i have driven just karts at local kart indoor had fastest lap first night i went when i was 17 :) never had money or people pushing me, but i want to save up an do alot more karting in a capped engine so its cheaper.. dont care what id race.. probably race anything lol.. i still get confused with abs being steering device?? i always thought it was assist to stop brakes locking which it is but its a steering assist? i guess you cant fully brake an turn this what it must be.. confused.. but yeah good luck spurgy i watched you crash btw unlucky, try harder next race lol..

Take a Lotus Elise in GT5 (closest thing you're going to get to the Exige) and drive it around without ABS. Does the brakes lock up easier compared to your real life experience?

The car is a Ford Festiva. Front rotors are from a John Cooper Works Mini w/ Dual Piston Subaru Calipers and Carbotech Race pads.

The car is 2200lbs soaking wet w/ driver.

On dry pavement, it's very manageable and I only lock it up in a panic maneuver. On wet or dirty pavement though, it's super sketchy. GT5 with no ABS is very similar to the way my car acts on wet or dirty pavement.

Also, my series limits the tires to a minimum of 200TW rated Street Tires. If I was on slicks like your Jedi, I'd certainly be able to brake harder without lockup.

These are the brakes:

And this is the car:

The brakes are phenomenal when used properly. The videos below show that this car has the best brakes of any car in the entire country that races in my series.

In real life a real non abs rwd car on road tyres you get much more rear end engine braking lock ups than a light weight open wheel car which mainly locks the inside front wheel coz of weight transfer softer the springs bigger the transfer.
I was wondering what the 370 is like on the scale of road to race car I think its a school car for Silverstone iam I right

Funny thing is the more grippier the tyre the less easier it is to lock up.. so you would have to get the right combo i guess.. for me abs an no abs shouldnt make much of a difference with 100% driving.. when you see ti tech on TT's no abs he thressholds trial brakes so good with same driving line relative to those around him.. being that good with no abs is technically more difficult.. an probly the most real looking braking..

No idea how it helps the steering, maybe it's just when you're steering and braking at the same time, like if you're trail braking :)

And I'll probably miss the next race at Brands Hatch which is a pretty annoying as I was looking forward to it, but never mind, will just have to win GT Academy instead, then I won't have to worry about crashing

is this fwd your fords are bit different than yours in the uk think this is a mk2 fiesta a la legendary mk2 rs turbo of the 90's what engine is in this 1.6 turbo cvh and how much bhp is it running

Yeah thats why in GT5 you can get alot of that brake realease oversteer i guess when you go in on brake into corner then realease brake rear comes round with the brakes unloaded an weight balance shifts.. :)

The engine is a 1.8 Mazda BP (DOHC). Not a stock power train at all. Roughly 150HP. It's not a rocket ship, but the races we do are between 15 hours and 24 hours long so it's fast enough to be competitive within class and super reliable which is the important part.

similar but its more to do with down shifting causing lock ups in an old rwd real car 👍

You wont worry about crashing?? lol.. Senna springs to mind.. The Main thing is that you learn from your mistakes an get better :)

The Ginetta I drove did that, kept locking up the back end on down shifts :)

And nice car Nasty 👍 It's faster than it looks, and that's the sort of car that is closer to the ones in GT5, so if it's not easy to lock up GT5 must be exaggerating no ABS :)

Well the cars are a lot safer than when Senna was driving, I was more concerned about the money side of things which we wouldn't have to worry about. :) And I've learnt to be a little more cautious around off camber corners, back end just got light and suddenly gripped and snapped back on me. :(

I see :) does the driveshaft an propshaft that basically control the power if you send to much power under braking to the wheels that must heat the brakes? this help to lock up? like your sending power to wheels like heel an toe.. basically riding the throttle? but thats cadence braking?

Brakes lock up easier when cooler i thought.. if they had us making SIM Games would we ever get it done lol..

It's completely wrong for them to do that. Most of the young guns won't have the opportunity to qualify for GTA because they don't have a driving license, as there's point having one due to the ridiculous car insurance prices. Surely pther motorsport licences (i.e. MSA karting licence) should allow them to compete?!

Nonsense. It's easy enough to get ensured on a parent/guardian's car. Much cheaper than getting insured as the main driver.

Thanks! I hear that a lot lol.

I definitely agree that GT5 is a little too severe with no ABS, but for sure locking up a real car can and will happen during the course of a race when pushing hard regardless of the conditions.

Yeah thats learning i guess.. where i live their alot of rallying illegal some cars have welded diffs an your doing 130plus not good for making mistakes.. most of my mates have landed in hedges pritty bad.. lear for next time hahaha..

I would hate to do rallying, no idea how they don't crash at the speeds they go with such narrow tracks :P

150 bhp is fast in that car I remember the tuners used to get 200hp out of the cvh which was very fast :scared:

I think the amount of pressure that is applied in SIM with your foot is nothing near real.. i can only imagine that the sustained pressure with your foot that you push with is more real with abs1 but personally enjoy finding the limit with no abs an i would rather modulate brake than just fully brake untill apex.. you would use more brake in real life with no abs.. but at the end of the day.. if its faster to fully brake you will do it unlike me.. GT6 ABS1 Maybe 50% lol..

Yeah crazy sometimes M3 e36 great cars.. they have lsd.. the rest have Welded driveshaft helps for drifting but going fast with your drive tyres turning at same time is very dangerous..

Is this FWD? Your Fords are bit different than ours in the UK. I think this is a mk2 Fiesta a la legendary mk2 RS Turbo of the 90's
No, it's a Kia Pride/Mazda 121. It's a Ford Festiva, completely unrelated to the Ford Fiesta (though a completely different Mazda 121 was later based on a completely different Ford Fiesta).

So. The topic. Yes, it's in part a minimum driving standard guarantee, in part an insurance requirement and, because the purpose of GT Academy is not just to find a racing driver but a brand ambassador, in part because you'll need to be driving on the public roads from location to location when you win. I know Jann heads from south Wales up to Sunderland (in his Nissan Juke Ministry of Sound) regularly.

In my Jedi I just push as hard as I can on the brake unless it's wet in which case it's quite a bit easier to lock a brake, but still not as easy as most cars I've driven in GT5 without ABS. The bad thing about GT5 brakes is you need to dial the BB to make it usable without ABS. If you find the brakes too easy to lock, lower the BB to around 3/1 or 5/2, I got used to brake at around half force ( red brake bar on HUD ) and modulate with that aim as max. It will be very hard at first with pedal :( I know several pedal/wheel GTP driver who does not use ABS, Morgoth_666 for example, he is faster than me on most TT. A good practice car is Lotus Elan S1 '62 in stock form, fit CH tires, bring it to Monza with chicane, set BB to 2/1 or 3/1, very fun to drive :D

EDIT : Almost forgot, 2.14 GT5 now has better no ABS brake implementation, I drove with no ABS since release day, so far PD has made improvement to the locking limit, now higher BB is a lot easier to modulate and locking up process is more gradual than before. I also found that I have to reduce rear brake force on most cars, I used to have 9/6 to 10/8 BB, now most cars have 9/4 or 9/3 BB, with old cars at 5/2 to 2/1 to simulate drum brakes performance - longer braking distance :)

Personally I seem to have been very lucky with car insurance, Got my first car at 17 and it cost me £1036 to insure for the year, it was a Pug 106 1.1lt. Now I'm 23, got 6 years no claims and drive a Ford Focus ST170, I paid £215 this year. My best friend, same age, same no claims etc, drives a 1.6lt Astra, his is about £400. Unless you can get no claims as a named driver its not worth going on someone else's insurance.

Anyway back to topic.. in my opinion if driven well it doesn't make a difference if you have ABS or not. Just because you have ABS doesn't mean you should just plant on the brakes. From my own experience, cars without ABS usually stop slightly better than cars with ABS.. until you lock up :D

Ha wish my insurance was that cheap :P! The 20k miles I do each year adds £400 alone :(!

I always found ABS to lock up really easy because of the BB but if you say they've improved it might be worth a try in the future :)! Not tried it in a while!
