Why is Spain in the limelight of GT6?

Looking at the new features in the new game I have to question why are there so many new courses and locations set in Spain? Gemasolar, Valencia (beautiful architecture by the way), Ronda, Andalucia (did I say it again?), and even a famous mountain, name of which I don't remember, was in the Acura NSX Concept video.

It used to be Switzerland (Swiss Alps, Eiger Norwand, Basel, Lucerne, and now Matterhorn), but now GT heavily focuses on Spain.

I've known how a lot of locations in Gran Turismo are set in Europe because of (automotive) world history like Germany, France, and Italy, where the title even derived from, but now dropping Spain to the game like a bunch of Halloween candy seems intriguing for me.

Perhaps it's the beauty of the location that KY gets really interested to set the country as a location in GT. Switzerland has spectacular views, so perhaps Spain has beauty to be it's reason?

What could the reasons be? Also, if it rings true, what Spanish stuff will you like to see more? More courses? A "premium" Circuit De Valencia? Photo locations? More SEAT cars?

Seats would be cool, i have a strange love for the seat cordoba wrc car and would love to see that as a premium

It can be, some people say that Spain is just "a little Europe"...it has everything that you can find in the rest of the continent. (mountains, great beaches, very hot and cold weather, raining in the north all day like in England even at summer with no more than 28ºC, and really hot at South/east (that´s why Germans, Russians, English people, etc come here for the summer).

Each country has its very own thing but variety as here, depends. (talking about Europe only)

Also Nissan has/had (not sure now) one of the biggest Nissan´s factories here.

Then you have 2 F1 circuits (well this year Valencia is no more), some test tracks as Ascari (the longest circuit at Spain) and some more, 3 MotoGP circuits in the official calendar (Jerez, Catalunya and MotorLand in Aragon), etc.

A lot of people loves GT series here as well.

I´m not a fan of SEAT personally.

I would love to see the Circuit of Valencia Ricardo Tormo in GT series. Not because it is from here but I really like to drive in it. (GTR2, Race07, rFactor)

For the record I live here since 2005. I love the North (mountains, green, warm, Ocean) more than the East and I live at 50 meters from the beach in front of the Mediterranean sea. Go figure. lol

Well, Silverstone and Brands Hatch are new to GT as well, so maybe we just need some more UK photo locations... maybe the "Carlsberg Brewery" in Northampton (not too far from Silverstone) instead of Gemaslar, or "Outside the Oasis Cafe, on the A20, just past Brands Hatch"... :D :D :D

Seriously, Spain is quite picturesque, why not use it?

According to this video I've taken from this thread (Thanks, CarBastard fo all the investigation!), Kazunori Yamauchi visited Ronda and he was amazed, they have even told in the video that he sent some people to scan the Ascari facilities...

Translated:
Melcho Durán
"We have a lot to win with our environment, but the main problem is the low capacity of hotels in the city because 400 reporters from around the world would have to spend a whole week here for the reveal. We're working on it, because of this we are hoping that GT6 will be worldwide revealed in Ronda" Said Melchor Durán, Ascari representative, in interview with Ronda Weekly. According to Durán, the participation of Ronda in this project was decided took place last summer during a visit from Kazunori Yamauchi, the legendary creator of Gran Turismo. He visited the circuit (Ascari) and got to know Ronda itself, he then left a signed contract that materialized last summer with an impressive filming in Ronda that, in the circuit alone, took more than 86,000 pictures: "It was a team of 38 japanese, equipped with amazing technical material, that flew over the circuit and the surroundings of Ronda as well as other zones like Tavizna Mount, because they loved the zone. With impressive cammeras and scanners they achieved the recreations that we've already seen in the trailer and that we'll see in the videogame", he (Ascari Rep.)

Perhaps I was right about KY seeing beauty as his reason. It's like "fantastic location, hey let's put it in GT" and suddenly a hoard of developers come over to the city and take photos of the whole place.

Well I'm glad to see Spain getting more exposure virtually. Perhaps when the Madrid circuit was being created it triggered a chain of events for him and the development team in which resulted in a huge tour around the country and scanning all the places they come across as amazing.

Well, considering the size of the course creator, there's really only ONE location they could've done at the time, it just so happened to be Spain... If they could do another, couldn't it be an Alpine area like Switzerland...? It's one area, and it had to be located SOMEWHERE.

Somewhere beautiful, I must add.

I think I remember a recent Top Gear episode where they traveled to Spain in 'budget' supercars due to an economic crisis in Spain leaving entire fully furnished towns abandoned. Maybe Kazunori is using all these unique locations to help Spain & perhaps boost tourism to those regions to help Spain recover. I'm just guessing though.

If I was Lucas Ordonez, I'd be talking about Spain all the time with Yamauchi-san.

"You should add this area as a photomode"
"You should make a course-creator based on this area!"
"You should add this track!"

Wouldn't you if you were the GT Academy's poster child and got to interact with Yamauchi-san on a semi-regular basis?

Speculative joking, mind you.

Because the Spanish are in a deep economic crisis due to chronic laziness. They have a 30% unemployment rate and when PD comes rolling in with the dough they got the biggest bang for the buck. And before you say im putting down the Spanish people, there typical lunch break was three hours so yeah ..

Jarama and Navarra are other Spanish circuits of note.

Cause god knows they need it. :sly:

Don't forget that the people of Gibraltar rather be part of the UK and not Spain as well. 👍 Basically that and what you said is why I said what I did.

While Spain is certainly getting some attention for GT5 (Madrid) and GT6 (Ronda, Gem Solar, and rumors of Ascari Race Resort), the UK is the real focus of GT6.

For me photo mode locations don’t bring much to the game. Real world tracks and cars are the most important things. We all know the car list is skewed heavily toward Japan, but 3 of 7 new GT6 tracks are set in the UK.

The UK's significance to motorsports cannot be underestimated, but until GT6 the coverage of the UK has been extremely lacking. Top Gear Test Track and London were included in GT5. Top Gear is gone and apparently fully focused on Forza, but GT6 is adding Silverstone, Brands Hatch, and the Goodwood Hill Climb. The 15th Anniversary / GT6 announcement was held at Silverstone. The Light Car Company Rocket is new, and an Aston Martin DB3S won the Gran Turismo Trophy at Pebble Beach.

PD / Kaz seemed to focus on the US for GT5 with the inclusion of Indy, Daytona, and NASCAR. Too bad we lost Sonoma (Infineon). Switzerland has also seen more than its fair share of content, and obviously Japan has received heavy focus with Suzuka, Fuji, Tsukuba, and Motegi.

Germany, France, and Italy are still lacking for content. Germany only has the many layouts of the Nurburgring GP/Nordschleife courses. France lost both Paris street circuits in GT5 and only has La Sarthe and Chamonix remaining. Italy has the GT5 Rome circuit, Toscona, and Monza, but considering the history of racing in these countries, they deserve more. Hockenheim, Paul Ricard, and Imola would be at the top of my list, but there are plenty of other options.

Australia will be getting Mount Panorama (Bathurst). The only question is will it be included at launch or DLC. I'm betting DLC with Seattle being the last of the 7 new GT6 tracks. So far no new city circuits have been announced for GT6, but we've seen footage of Seattle in the NSX concept video (same source as the recently confirmed return of Apricot Hill), and I expect at least 1 new city circuit.

The Mid-East, Non-Japanese Asia, Eastern Europe, Canada, and Latin America are all places I'd like to see get some attention through DLC. Dubai, Sepang, Brno, Mosport, and Interlagos would all be great additions to the real word circuits.

Sydney, Munich, Moscow, Istanbul, Montreal, Buenos Aires, and Beijing would be great additions to the city circuits, and I’d happily bring back GT3 Rome, Paris Opera/George, New York, Hong Kong, and Seoul.

GT6 seems to have a more global focus with the content that has been revealed so far. None of the new tracks are set in Japan, and only 2 of the new cars are Japanese (DeltaWing and GT-R GT3). I’m guessing more Japanese content will be revealed for the Tokyo Game Show, but hopefully the world of GT will continue to be more and more global. It just happens to be the UK’s and to a lesser extent Spain’s turn right now. Australia could be next, and who knows after that. Monthly DLC sounds awesome. I just hope it doesn't hurt my wallet too much.

I guess that's because the creational staffs of GT didn't focus on the circuits in the country in comparison with the traditional way they've lived up to(no featuring of the locations set in Spain as opposed to picking up the tracks positively in central european countries like France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy in whose locations even appeared on trailers or somewhat alike in the past instalments of the series ever) and they wish to change their direction as a part of transition in the entire series as the number, age of the cars and the gaming platform verge on?

As the games being launched for a different console and being approved with licenses of an outgrowing number of manufacturers making a larger number of cars in appearance in-game, they can not get over the edge with the same manner on tracks in my opinion.

Basically it's just the same as they did with GT5, only then they visited Switzerland (Bern, Luzern), Italy (Toscana, San Gimignano, San Galgano, Siena) and a little bit of Austria (Red Bull hangar at Salzburg airport).

I fear that the only reason whereby Polyphony decided to model some scenarios or others, are Yamauchi's personal preferences for vacation.

So if you want circuits or scenarios near from you appear in futures GT you just have to invite Yamauchi a vacation with all expenses paid.

PD decides on what they see and not what is popular. Otherwise all driving games would have similar locations.

I see it as a good thing, unique locations great vistas.

Looking at the new features in the new game I have to question why are there so many new courses and locations set in Spain?

Probably because they are strong drivers in the GT Academy? I think it was the toughest country to qualify in, and they had to most, higher ranked drivers too. Plus, isn't Lucas O. from Spain too?

Jerome

Some of the best tracks in GTs past have come from unique locations. It's amazing how this game collectively brings the world together in forums, online events, and with things like GT Academy. Including venues from all over the world seems only reasonable. I'm looking forward to taking a trip around the world in the comfort of my house while driving like a lunatic in a 500hp+ car.

I thought the same way too.

Post #7 https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=8793068#post8793068 is the closest.

Kaz has said in the past that he loves Barcelona. (loosely wording what he said) He loves Spain because of how they have that passion for sports.

There was a bit he said about Barcelona and a bit about Spain. Bottom-line, he likes Spain.

So it is creator influence I suppose once again.

You don't have a clue of what you talking about...

Are you kidding me ? You obviously have not been in Spain, the lunch break here is 30 min, so from what source did you take that data? BBC or CNN

We are in deep economic crisis because political corruption, politicians wasting money but no for "chronic laziness" we work more hours than the U.S. people and have less paid. ;)

Maybe he has somekind of chronic handicap if he thinks that way.
