Why is there no coat of arms on Spanish flag?

I'm annoyed I'm forced to use the Union Flag (Union Jack), and don;t have option to choose St George' cross, or Dorset flag (which is horrendous btw, see attached) but there we go :D

Welsh flag is one of the best imo... my mums from Caephilly and I spent a lot of time up there in school holidays back in 80's/early 90's, so should feel more affinity to being Welsh, but consider myself English (a little British maybe :D), not 50/50

I wonder how many Americans on here are gutted they can;t use a confederate flag... not sure what current legal status is on that though, recall its had growing negativity around it and public reception passed few years.

All I know from my Dad is that my mother was half Welsh so as I can say that I am one quarter Welsh. This is the flag I want to represent

Anyway, Gran Turismo takes all of its flags and country names (and swear filter) from Sony Interactive Entertainment, so nobody at Polyphony Digital has anything to do with it.
Funny to mention swear filter, it is so strict that the three letters WTF are not allowed...

Even the Spanish military jackets (talking about what they call ordinary uniforms, not the formal uniforms) have a flag without the coat of arms... not to mention the Spanish flag you'll find in several private boats. The nautical Spanish flag has no coat of arms but a crown!
Talking about motorsport, most racing cars I saw in my 35 years of life had a Spanish flag without coat of arms, including Carlos Sainz's Toyota and Alonso's Renault F1.
I would love to use the Galician flag in GT7, or even the Old Galician Kingdom flag

Many other countries have variants of flags, with and without their coat of arms.

Like Italy, Belgium, Austria or Germany. Italy even has several coats of arms, depending of the use (civil, militar,...)
The countries constitutions state when each one must be used, inside this guidelines any of them is acceptable. It's made clear by our spanish users that, in this situation, both spanish flags would be acceptable. Even in F1, Carlos Sainz overalls have the flag without coat of arms and Fernando Alonso with the coat of arms.

On other hand, the croatian flag doesn't have a variant without the coat of arms, and Sony/PD are correct, displaying the complete flag with coat of arms.

What gives Kaz the right to change other countries flag as he sees fit? How about we take sun disc out of Japanese flag, would he be liking that?

Yea, I know, it's hardly the most important thing troubling GT7 but still, it's baffling.
Might I ask why this is so important to you, Someone who isn't from Spain (from what I can see) while not one single post from actual residents in Spain seem to even remotely be making a big deal about this? Genuinely curious.

Flags can be very political - especially depending on where you live in the UK. There's certainly no way I'd want the St George's flag associated with me and likewise my Northern Irish friend wouldn't want the Union Flag associated with him.

Bit like when I turned up for the British 24h Kart Race (happening this weekend on Alpha Live's youtube) with my New Zealand friend and they'd stuck an Australian flag on the side of the kart...

I'm a flag fanatic since very early days. I love everything heraldic. That's why I notice such stuff. Weird, I know.

@Racer93 I genuinely lol'd 🤣

I here by announce a special military operation against New Zealand and annex it back into NSW.

Yea, but official version with coat of arms is used everywhere, in all sport competitions, ceremonies etc. Only place I see it without COA is Atletico games 😋.

There are examples where you can put COA on a flag like in Hungary or Austria but officially it's not there.

I'm perfectly sure he didn't read your constitution and it's just pure PD laziness and carelessness.

I'm gonna go with this flag 🇯🇵 in the future, just without the sun disc. It's rather fitting actually, when you think about it.

Well, of course. But he's big into esports and representing different countries so this is even more unacceptable. Back in 90s and 00s when you had pixelized games, I would understand, it would look like smudge but now, in 4k, 0 excuses.
FYI, it's a game. Official sports events are much more public-facing (ie. televised and in international news articles, etc.). Using the also-official simplified version of the flag isn't exactly offensive or controversial.
