Why won't they leave Star Wars alone?

I want the christmas special on Blu-Ray.

I really want to buy this, but I'd only be buying this for 3 movies & bonus features. I'm fairly certain that most of the time spent with the special features will focus on episodes I-III & Vader's "Noooooo" moment(s).

They'll use the same tacky 2D-3D conversion that every 3D set comes with anyway...

Because they know noone'll bloody know, or tell the difference. Also, Lucas seems to be like some sort of pimp to Star Wars, except he forget the part where you set them free when they get too old.

I really don't like Lucas...

I imagine that the original set of films will become very rare in 20 years.

Start all over again then.

"Watch Starwars as originally intended, will all added crap removed".

Rinse and repeat.

I believe the expression "milking the sacred cow" sums up this situation perfectly. Cash is king, my friend.

I saw The Phantom Menace in 3D last night at the Empire in Leicester Square. The 3D is like all other conversions, just average. I can't recall flinching at all which sometimes happens when you're watching a proper 3D film.

I'm considering going with the kids on Saturday when we're in Minneapolis, provided I can find a decent showtime that doesn't required me to leave the house at 6am to make it.

I might go see the first one, because there is some stuff I think would benefit from 3D. And when IV, V and VI get the conversion done, I'll go see them just for the novelty of watching them in a theater; 3D or not. But I'm not gonna bother with the second and third.

Even the pod races & lightsaber duels? Those were supposed to be taking advantage of the 3D effects from what I had been reading.

This greatly disappoints me, tbh. I was hoping it would break the 2D-to-3D conversion issues that plague other films, but it looks like it will be up to Cameron when he re-releases Titanic.

Like you I was hoping the pod racing scenes would be awesome, it's one of the best scenes in the prequels. There wasn't one scene where it looked like something was coming out of fhe screen. apart from the opening scrolling text.

"Draw me like one of your French girls" in 3D FTW!

Q: Why won't they leave STAR WARS alone?

A: Because there's money to be made!

Not from me though.

The second I saw that the Lion King in 3D sold out everything, I knew that it was the beginning of full theater re-releases in 3D for EVERY FREAKIN' MOVIE EVER MADE!

"Alright everybody, their movie sold well. Stop production of anything new, we're gonna just re-do everything in 3D. Remember: No new content, only 3D!"

A quote from most likely every single movie production corporation in the world.

Sorry, had to rant somewhere.

But yeah, on topic, Star Wars.
I used to like the series, yes, all the movies. That is, until my little brother watched them all so much that it killed it for me. Somehow I can no longer watch any of the films without feeling like it's all nothing but nerd fan service. (not sure why exactly)

Of all the movies, Episode I: The Phantom Menace is probably my favorite. Purely on opinion, don't hate. :)

As for 3D, I don't like it at all. I've never seen anything valuable in it, it's always been a gimmick. Nothing that I've seen done with it, couldn't be done just as well without it. Mostly everyone and everything in the movie just goes flying toward the camera for no reason other than to make use of 3D.

On the topic of 3D, those Sony TVs and the 3D tech and all that. I've seen that you can play "Splitscreen" with both players using the entire screen with the 3D technology. That's an example of 3D being used in a unique and innovational way.

So uh yeah, that's my opinion and all.

I'm ok with Lucas re-releasing the Star Wars movies yet again. Nobody's forcing me to go see them, and it's good that the series is being visually refreshed so often. And it gives the young ones the same experience we had as kids-- that is, the please of the star wars universe and something great to spark our imaginations. What else do kids have? There is nothing culturally significant for them the way that star wars was for us.

I saw it opening night, and I thought it was excellent compared to other conversions I have seen! IMO, it was a very good experience (except Jar-Jar ruining some potentially awesome scenes).

Some parts looked good, but most of the time I thought I was just watching the regular movie. Didn't seem worth the $12.50 to me...
