Wii U Latest News and Discussion

Like Wind Waker, I never gave the original release of Twilight Princess a chance, so I suppose the HD version is an opportunity to try it for the first time if you say it's that good. I know it has Wolf Link, but my lupine Zelda-style experience on Wii was with Okami. :P

It is very good in my opinion. I love the vibe it gives off. Okami is fantastic too, I wish the HD remaster got released on Wii U for that title. :(

I went back to MK8 as well as playing M&S at the 2014 Winter Olympics. I really do find joy in the events and I must say that my favourite is Figure Skating (especially performing Rise of the Valkyries and doing YES! Chants as I jump ), I love how you can check your rivals record and try to take their thrown.

I'm honestly excited for the 2016 Olympics, the character roster appears to be massively expanded and you have a lot of new events to play with. I only hope there is more things to do than the 2012 Olympics (London Party was so disappointing)

I got a lot done in XCX today. I had made a note of my completion rate on the last page of this thread (around 58% at 160 hours), and I've now done about 68% of the overall map in almost 190 hours. Some of that time was spent in multiplayer meetups with friends from Xenoboards, but at this pace I'm still looking at another 60-100 hours before I run out of quests to complete, tyrants to kill, or treasure to find. I'm in no rush anyway. :)

On a side note, I just poked around for leads on that very tardy FAST Racing Neo update and found this post from yesterday on GameFAQs:
I sent an email. I got a response pretty quickly:

"Sorry for the long wait. The update is a testing at Nintendo.
It should be released in about 2-3 weeks."
Of course, that doesn't exactly mean anything in light of the past two months. What a shame.

That update situation has turned into a bit of a mess. I tried doing some online the other day (for testing purposes) and it seemed pretty bare...too little too late perhaps. :(

Curious, anyone have a slight interest in the next Zelda game coming out on Wii U. It has my attention definitely despite not a huge fan of the series (my only Zelda game I payed for is Wind Waker HD).

Speaking of Wind Waker HD, does anyone know where the Boss Key is in the first dungeon, I've been stuck on it for months (I'm rather noobish at finding things when I have little hints).

I'm huge Zelda fan, however I've seen this today.

The main reason I bought a Wii U was for Zelda. Now it's getting a release I'm mixed, on the one hand I can still buy it for the U but I'll always know a nicer looking version is on the NX and that makes me annoyed.

I'm totally fine with games being delayed. While it might be upsetting that there will now be a superior version at least there is higher chance the product will actually be clean and fresh at launch and not a rushed buggy mess.

Agreed. Personally I know I'm going to buy it anyway, I'm a sucker for Nintendo and Zelda stuff so I'll be reaching for the cash on d1.

So, I purchased the Nintendo Humble Bundle the other day for £9 which got me:

Wii U:
-Affordable Space Adventures
-Shantae and The Pirate's Curse
-Freedom Planet
-Darksiders 2
-Citizens of Earth

3DS:
-Shantae and The Pirate's Curse
-Retro City Rampage
-Street Fighter IV
-Rhythm Thief and The Emperor's Treasure (which I already own)

I'm glad I finally have Freedom Planet, I've played 2 levels so far (they are HUGE) and I quite enjoy it. Not quite as good as Sonic gameplay-wise for me but enjoyable none the less.

What if the NX is like the Wii U but with the added abilities to play it anywhere? It could come with backwards capability for both 3DS and Wii U games as well.

@Brend -- It's a pretty good bundle, but I already had ASA, Shantae, and Freedom Planet. I didn't care about Darksiders 2 or Citizens of Earth, and as you know I don't have a 3DS. I'm glad it worked out for you; Affordable Space Adventures is a Wii U game you don't want to miss, and Freedom Planet is good.

I don't think I'm excited anymore for Mario & Sonic at the Rio Games after hearing this news from the Wii U version.

  • All the new characters (like in the 3DS version) are exclusive to 1 Event.
  • The Gamepad, while sometimes mandatory before is completely mandatory is Single Player.
  • There is only 14 Olympic Events, that's less than last installment and that was the Winter Olympics which in real life have less events to work around.
  • Dream Events are replaced with Duel Events, now that isn't the sin as I do like the idea of Plus Events in the 3DS Version, the issue is there is only 3 Duel Events (less than how many Dream Events were in the original Olympic Games).
  • There is even less characters in this version than the 3DS version.
I'll wait for more details on Tournament to see if I still want to buy the game. Heroes Showdown seems to be the only redeemable feature at the moment (sounds far better than London Party)

While I excuse the 3DS version on setbacks because there is so much characters on the Rio Games and there so much events on the London Games that it would be difficult to work around the 3DS Limitations but this game sounds like it is taking steps back from the Sochi 2014 Games.

@Brend -- To cancel both the Wii U and PC versions is absurd. Cancelling the Wii U version arguably makes even less sense at this point because there's basically no competition all year and standout indies are proven to do well on the eShop.

Hopefully it's just an incorrect listing. Though I had already given up on expecting to play the game any time remotely soon.

There's also still zero signs of the update for FAST Racing Neo. What a disaster for the online multiplayer in that game.

That update still hasn't landed!? What the heck...worrying to say the least.

And now out of the blue, it's dated for May 18 with the following features:
Online: Improved stability
Online: You can now choose a preferred speed league
General: Mini Map for all tracks available while playing
General: Improved loading speed for many tracks (especially from external USB devices)

If it works out, I hope it brings some life back to the online multiplayer.

Got the the original M&S at the Olympic Games after finding out the Rio 2016 Games only has 17 Events and I couldn't get London 2012.

I enjoy the game though my arms hurt first time playing it :P.

I did wonder why both High Jump and Pole Vault didn't return in the later Olympic Games (except for the 3DS version of London 2012) but after playing those, I know why as it is so easy to get the Top Score in both. Got the Top Score in High Jump on my first try. I do wish for the return of 4x100m Freestyle and 400m, they are my favourite events as well as an inclusion of Marathon or Triathlon (except for the 3DS version of London where they did appear).

Online multiplayer in FRN has been limping along. It's dead at certain times of day, but in the afternoon here I can get rooms of up to 5-6 players with some reliability. Even if the MP doesn't last, "Vertigo" has gotten me back into the game and it's really, really good. I've learned some tricks and gotten a lot better at the game since I 100%'d it; I'm findind that the tight (but not unreasonable) rubberbanding of the AI keeps them competitive at seemingly any pace, yet now I can usually prevail to pull off a perfect 48-point cup, which is good on both ends.

In the end, the physics are the biggest thing for me. They're top-notch among arcade racers, of either the "wheeled" or anti-grav variety. :) Shin'en did a fantastic job of dialing in such an abstract handling model.

Welp, I guess I'm strapping in for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I just ordered a Wolf Link amiibo, sans TPHD because I'm still not sure about that game.

What strikes me about this is how I was a fan of the Zelda games in my childhood, up to Ocarina of Time, and after that my interest dropped completely. I figured I just wasn't really a Zelda fan after all, because the games were pretty much the same as before...or at least the same since OoT. Now I wonder if, like Star Fox Zero, I've simply been waiting for a new game to refocus on what I liked about the games in the first place. In 1998 I still very much regarded the series as an action RPG. Then they became..."Legend of Zelda games"?

It's kind of interesting how Breath of the Wild's new gameplay mechanics can be interpreted as drawing from modern (western) action RPG/adventure games, earlier Zelda titles, or both at once. How much of it is Nintendo being behind the times, and how much of it is tapping into an identity the series already had?

Out of everything that came out of E3 this year,

Zelda has snatched the top spot for my interest.

Am over 35 years old and i am stoked and so excited about this new Zelda... As if it was the first Zelda on the 8bit NES !!

I want to buy this Zelda for my two daughters, so they can experience what i did some 25 years ago !

Most likely will get the NX in 2-3 years time.

I guess this will be my debut here.

Earlier this month or last month, I played my first Wii U game of any kind at a Target kiosk. I basically played around with a demo of Super Mario Maker. It is really interesting technology and effort to let people make their own quality Mario content. Could you imagine if this stuff was out in the '90s... or even in the '80s? TRUE STORY- I actually wanted to make my own Super Mario World, but replacing a lot of the dinosaur stuff with a more modern city atmosphere. Or you could say I basically wanted to make my own "mod" of Super Mario World back then. And "back then" was about 1994 for me.

I still respect Nintendo even if everybody else is thinking Sony and Microsoft are the only companies that matter in today's gaming landscape. A lot of people today still think Nintendo is a shadow of its former self, and is therefore not in any way any threat to Sony or Microsoft or not even trying to make it a true three-way for console supremacy. I am not sure if I'd actually want a Wii U. Just not as many great options outside of the usual Nintendo suspects. I don't hate the Wii U or anything.

So the Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem crossover, Tokyo Mirage Session #FE, is out. Anyone pick it up?

My copy arrived yesterday, but I haven't had a chance to play it yet. A shame Nintendo seems like they're leaving this game to die... there's next to no advertisement, and even reviews from mainstream outlets are virtually non-existent. At least the small handful of people who have reviewed it have been very positive about it.

Not a huge fan of the whole pop idol angle they took with the story, but reviewers have been particularly emphasising the quality of the combat system in their reviews (which sounds like a suped-up version of Persona 3 & 4's battle system), so it should at least hit the right notes for me there.

@Lain -- So what do you think of TMS#FE? I was uninterested because of that pop idol angle (I've also never tried SMT or more than a couple rounds of an FE game, so the crossover is lost on me), but @Mrs Wolfe was intrigued by the trailers and I was wondering how accessible it is.

I haven't actually gotten around to playing it, because I've been busy with other games. (Probably won't get around to playing it for quite some time, sadly... working my way through all the SMT games in chronological order. Among many other game series.)

But as someone quite familiar with SMT and FE, and based on what I've seen and heard, it looks like it should be fairly accessible... certainly one of the more accessible SMT games. Gameplay is much closer to SMT (The Persona subseries in particular)... turn-based combat akin to Final Fantasy X, emphasis on learning and exploiting an enemy's weaknesses, etc. Should be pretty easy to come to grips with.

A lot of people seem to consider it to be neck-and-neck with Xenoblade Chronicles X for best Wii U RPG, so I'd say it's worth checking out.

That sounds like something she could handle. 👍

On that note, I've come back to XCX as a staple of my gaming sessions. All playable characters are up to their max level, my skell collection now includes three L60 variants (which has multiplied my party's security around large indigens), and I'm knocking out missions that I put off until now.

I still need a fourth L60 skell, more and better L60 equipment, and more equipment augments before I have any hope of defeating the game's meanest tyrants...after all the strength I've acquired, Mira is still a dangerous and humbling world, even among some normal indigens, and that's pretty awesome.

In the first couple months with the game I was hesitant to let my hype take over my ultimate judgment of the game, but now I'm certain it's my #1 favorite RPG of all time. :D

Yeah, I still need to get Xenoblade Chronicles X. It looks pretty sweet.

But anyway, I decided to jump the gun and start TMS#FE last night. The gameplay is quite addictive... I wound up playing for 7 hours straight.

I can't entirely blame Nintendo for hesitating on the next game after Other M, but they really dropped the ball unless they're cooking up something sweet for the NX's first year as a belated celebration.
