Will GT Series ever get the option for a full Livery Creator?

Honestly livery editor is way to big of a thing to just ask of PD anyways. It would be much more realistic to ask for livery chips, like a paint chip for a full Gulf scheme, or Martini, or what have you. But yeah, I'm surprised this thread is aloud to stand anyways, seeing that it is 100% derived from a lie.

EDIT: There we go, now that we have the title change I think it would be a good thing to be more open minded than a full on livery editor like Forza, because like I said that is probably too much to ask from PD, especially for GT6.

First, I seriously think all of you should stop posting inaccurate claims as facts, once for all.

The "infamous" image all of you is referring to is NOT TIED TO GT6 whatsoever, nor to GT5, not even to GT5: Prologue.

It is an image from the TGS September 2006 presentation held in the first press-only presentation of the GT:HD project, which was 100% cancelled as a project in December 2006 and all development was moved at development of full GT engine for PS3. So, that very slide is part of something that was 100% cancelled as a project 8 years ago.

Second, the word "promise" is very HYPERBOLIC and absolutely MISSLEADING.

Nothing was "promised" regarding "Coloring/Livery Editor" to anyone, nor it was ever mentioned as factual to be introduced in any GT game. Even that very screenshot is talking about the planned design roadmap for theoretical "online features". Please, look above, on the very top of that slide. "ONLINE FEATURES". Not single player, not career, not arcade mode - online features. Together with another two "promised" things, such as Online Garage or Race Builder Tool.

However - and I warn you, the following will sound deeply revealing and will be somewhat complicated to comprehend to many "promisers" out here, but I will really try to present it as simple as possible, so hold on to your hats:

THIRD AND MOST IMPORTANT: we already have that "promised" "Coloring/Livery Editor" in Gran Turismo 6.

Can we paint the car and rims in the color of your preference? Yes. It is Coloring Editor.
Can we change the color of the livery and livery numbers (type and number) on selected cars? Yes. It is Livery Editor.

So, even that above slide was never talking about GT5: Prologue, GT5 or GT6 - but GT:HD cancelled project, the very bullet-point of "Coloring/Livery Editor" has been with us for 4 years now.

But it is not all.

Fourth, I think many here should really try to understand how their idea of "Livery Editor" and Polyphony Digital's idea of the "Coloring/Livery Editor" ARE NOT THE SAME IDEAS.

You may want to say "I want a Livery Editor as functionality in a way it exists in Forza Motorposrt (or some other) series" - it will be accurate "wish" only in that case. Because from the perspective of a functionality in the GT series, "Coloring/Livery Editor" exists for a long time.

Fifth, and final.

I am 100% for any kind of feature that would allow us to create some kind of paint schemes or whatever in order to make our cars get additional personality. Would that be a fully free system as in Forza or Supercars Challenge games, or semi-free as in PGR/GRID/TOCA games, or even just ability to add decals with numbers and some few stripes here and there - everything is welcomed. And I hope such options will indeed come to GT series.

But going into such lengths and making a false claim about something that is evidently not true should not be seen as good practice in a forum such as GTP - and especially not in the thread that will be read and answered by PD.

I would highly recommend that this question gets a change to more appropriate and more accurate one. Current form of "When are you giving us the promised Livery Editor?" is very misleading and inaccurate from both title-side and core of the presented OP.

"Will GT Series ever get the option for a full Livery Creator?" would be closer to what 99% of supporters of this topic has voted for.

Remaining 1% can still remain tied to their "promisers" agenda, it would be boring without them, I admit.

Amar nails it, as he often does.

Kaz, when are you giving us the Livery Editor, just like Forza? Everybody wants to be able to apply their own pictures and you've promised it.

Yes, please! It would be great to have this in Gran Turismo. I have never played Forza, but i play Shift 2 Unleased, and this feature is another reason why i like shift 2 Unleased so much.

OMG this would be Huge.. really really really Need this. expecily cause the fact in GT6 there is the Online Mode.. Be Different than everybody els.. KAZ CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN WITH TONS OF FEATURES

You guys really need to stop asking for just decals an stripes,we need a full livery editor and we deserve a full livery editor, makes absolutely no sense to have 5% of a editor than 100% tbh it's only going to make people more pissed than anything.More than likely we won't see any type of editor in GT6 because of standard cars,I'd imagine a high quality livery would look horrible on a standard car,we'll probably see a full editor on GT7 because there will only be premium cars.

Please change the title to "Will GT Series ever get the option for a full Livery Creator?"
And please delete "and you've promised it" from the OP. He never promised it as amar explained.
I'll change it now.

EDIT: Changed.

I can't imagine any kind of club and league support online without some sort of Livery Editor. Right now we're stuck with the Base Model cars and whatever paint chips we have in our paintbox to make them remotely unique. But even then, they all have the same decals.

Every race car driver gets a unique racing suit, helmet, and livery on his car. Not a couple of stripes or some neato stickers, but a full blown professionally done custom livery, suited to the league they race in. We should have the same ability to establish our racing identity online or offline.

And just imagine having an Event Maker which allows us to stock the field with some of our Race Modded cars with custom liveries we made for various racing leagues. PD can't create dozens of unique liveries for every racing league and their stable of cars, but we could. Or could buy them from talented car artists. PD can even give us a range of templates for those who lack the skill to paint up a good race car. So say we want to create a FIA GT2 racing series, but only eight or ten cars are in the car list. And we don't want misfits like Rally or NASCAR cars. We can race mod up the rest and slap custom GT2 liveries on them, and include them in the field. Race on.

There is no real reason for there to not be a Livery Editor in GT7, and at least to try and make one for GT6.

We need to move this reply and put it on the first page so we make sure Kaz sees it!

Well argued. I will vote for that statement!

Or teams... Id love my logo on an R8 LMS. But there is another problem, how to get the picture to the PS3. I get you can upload VIA usb flahdrive... but how would GT use that? I would guess there would be a (If there ever is a livery editor) a Choose File tab..

PD might not go for direct importing of graphics because of the opportunity for naughtiness, but who knows what they have planned. In the Forza editor, you would have to build that logo from shapes which would require some clever designing, but it's certainly doable that way. Would be some work though.

What would be nice is, as Harsk100 suggests above, we could use an art app in GT7 with mouse and hopefully pen and tablet - which can be had fairly cheaply these days - to make designs like that. I've made decals and fantasy racing league logos in Forza using their modified shapes and layers, but it would have been nice to be able to draw some designs to be sure. Whatever PD decides to do, I'm hoping that like Forza and Project CARS, we can design decals, logos and racing number plaques. With online leagues, having one set of defined graphics for all cars like the number plaques and league and team logos would be a very nice touch, and I'm sure some would say is essential.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that they needs to include the ability to put text on certain window areas, like racer names and/or car numbers, as well as paintable window banners. Also, separately paintable rear view mirror housings, which is a big deal in motorsports.

One more quick edit. PD could continue painting up skins for race cars and offer them for sale or for free on the PSN store, and if they did sell them it should be pretty cheap for a fairly big bundle, like a dollar for 15 or 20 for a certain car, it is just a big texture after all.

And just because I love car porn, the GT Livery Editor should be able to make cars like these, and more, with a solid Race Mod.

Not that I'm necessarily lobbying for the M1 and 911 to be in GT6 or 7... yeah. :D

i also would like to see options for the cars... Like lets say you go to the audi dealer (in GT) and want to buy an R8. There are many variations to choose from, but in GT there is only one. I guess this somehow ties into the livery thread  Sorry if off topic..

Myself and my fellow teammates have been constrained by the lack of a true livery editor going back to the day Team NEMESIS was formed back in GT5.

Our team colour is white, always has been, always will be. We've become quite well known for it, and have put in a lot of effort to get there.

That said, I have had the exact same paint job on my Z33 for over 3 years now, going back to GT5. It's boring as hell!!! I have so many ideas swimming in my head as to how I can personalize my car, add team logos to help further team recognition (not just in GT online lobbies, but in videos we make to showcase GT to other drift teams across multiple platforms), add sponsorship logos of my teammates' real world business in an effort to help their brand grow, and because it's 2014, and a livery editor is just one with the times.

One of the most frustrating aspects of this issue is the fact that GT was here long before many of these "other" titles, fans have been asking for this since the very beginning, and yet we are still left with nothing. The developers of those "other" titles listen to the GT fans, and used a livery editor as a means to start prying people away from GT. And yet, here we are, no editor, and perhaps worse, no explanation for why we don't have one, nor any kind of discussion as to when we might possibly see one

Alright, again I love this game and that should be known.

Back in the day, Gran Turismo was the cutting edge of visuals, handling and modding. These days games like Need for Speed, Forza and countless other driving games offer a lot few cars but much more in terms of customization.
This gives these games so much playability without a fraction of the overall quality of Gran Turismo.

This is the part that confuses me. GT could easily make other driving/racing games obsolete but we seem to leave out the parts that gamers love. No, custom paint jobs are not "official", not manufacturer standard, but Gran Turismo is a game, a game that allows you to do things you can't do in everyday life.
Let us have this, decals, vinyl patterns/designs and even this livery editor even if it wasn't promised.

Personally, I can and will spend hours making a car that would be completely unique. Then showing that off to our GT community.

I want "our" Gran Turismo to completely dominate the genre, this has the potential...let this be one of our key steps.
