i.e. in depth public forum, almost a carbon copy of gtplanet. Over the years that I've played Gran Turismo, I have picked up many useful pieces of information from gtplanet, whether is was car setups, or how to get "out the track" and boost credits, or community events.

It would be great if pCARS had it's own dedicated forums.

Does anyone know if this kind of thing is planned and how in deep it will go?

Thanks.

Also, if this is going to happen, what content would people like to see?

That's great! It'd be a sad farewell to GT Planet for me though, as I like this site more than the Gran Turismo series itself.
I suspect it may have an open section and a wmd members section.
However it may not happen.

You realize you're in the GTP Project Cars Forum right now eh?:D I would hope that we could expand the Forum with dedicated sections for online racing, Q and A, Tips and Tricks etc. I hope the Official Forum for PCars is moderated because I won't go there other than to skim for information if it turns into a trollfest like unmoderated forums tend to do:crazy:

I'm hoping this, because I have a whole bunch of questions and don't really know where to ask.

I'll say this, I've change my GTPlanet bookmark to this Project Cars forum from the GT6 one. So there's that. I think once this thing hits, it will be a bigger deal than folks at Forza or GT could have ever imagined and this pCars forum on GTP will explode.

I 2nd that. I see new faces in here everyday getting excited about this game. And not a day goes by that I don't check the forum.

I agree. I really think pCARS is a bit of a GT and Forza killer myself. It is what they should be but aren't.

Anyway, no doubt people will set up websites dedicated to it but whether they become anything like GTPlanet is another thing.

Personally, I haven't seriously played GT for about 5 years (since I got into iRacing) but I still regularly visit GTPlanet as it is a great website that has areas for all racing games and more besides. So, I'll visit the pCARS forum here regularly as well as the official forums.

The GT phenomenon is not likely to be repeated. They had the right combination of the right platform, and the right game at the right time and have dominated this genre like no other by skirting the line between simulation and arcade in a way that appeals to both sides of the genre without alienating either one. Other than the extreme simulation guys of course which is why we are here, and that's a tiny percentage of players.

PCars isn't trying to do that, at least not with this version. They are targeting a smaller subset of the broader audience, the true racers if you will, and I don't think the market for that is GT in scale. The things that have made GT popular, the customization, painting, huge car selection, quirky car selection, quirky tuning, car upgrading, unrealistic tire options making it easier to drive and win, laid back gaming style and layout are not present in PCars.

PCars will be wildly, wildly successful if they can sell 2 million units on each console and whatever they sell on PC, but 10 million units, I don't think there's even a remote chance of that. Now with PCars2 or PCarsHorizon that's another story...we'll have to wait and see what happens.

By the way, there are various sites that already cater to the sim racing genre like RaceDepartment, Race2Play, VirtualiR, NoGrip Racing etc. None are even close to the overall scale of GTP because they are mainly focused on the racing aspects of the games and that they do very well, far better than GTP IMO, when it comes to sim racing.

Give Project CARS time to grow, develop, and heck, at this point, just to release! I sincerely hope this game can spawn an even better sequel, and from there, become a leading (if not, the leading) series in the genre. I have very high hopes and I am sure we will see some bumps and cracks here and there. Nonetheless, the outlook is great. Gran Turismo has seen its best days. It's time for a new king to rise up.

To play the other side, I won't say it is "what they should be but aren't." Those two offer things PCARS will not. Really, combine all three, and you have the perfect game.
PCARS is a racing game. GT is a car game. Forza is a take off of GT, with some degree of variance.

I couldn't agree more

project cars is a racing or motorsport sim. forza and gt are not they use racing as method of progression. however with those games they are designed to give you the feel of of cars many wont drive

If PCARS can deliver, I think it could be poised to make a big splash:
  1. There is no competition yet on PS4, and Polyphony Digital's recent bungling of Gran Turismo 6 has left GT fans considering other options more seriously than ever before.
  2. The game will land months before FM6 while offering more than FM5, including features that may be appealing to a hypothetical ex-Gran-Turismo convert, such as dynamic weather.
  3. PC gaming is enjoying a comeback -- a little bit of that fueled by the console wheel compatibility woes and general concerns with the direction Sony/Microsoft have taken -- and as more of a game than a multiplayer sandbox, there's really nothing else like PCARS on PC.
  4. It's a first-ever for a Nintendo platform, which has attracted media coverage all over the place and gives at least some gamers like me an alternative to keeping a Playstation/Xbox around for racing games.
Johnnypenso is right that PCARS will very likely never become the phenomenon that Gran Turismo is (after ten years, even the Forza brand hasn't gotten there). But Slightly Mad Studios may have happened upon a fortunate series of events. Nevertheless, Forza only found its foothold in the console sim racing space by planting a flag on an unclaimed hardware platform, so unless PCARS for Wii U is a runaway hit, SMS will still need all the luck they can get.

Like crowhop's post above, this is not to say that PCARS is what GT/Forza should be, or that they're exactly the same sort of game.

It seems like designing the PCars Forum/Sub-Forum Architecture here on GTP will be very challenging due to multi-platform support for PCars. For example...........Has it been confirmed as fact that Tunes and physics work identically across all platforms or will there be endless debate over the differing effect of camber on PS4 vs. xBox vs. PC . If tunes and track grip do not work identically........would that mean that there would need to be four Sub-forums for Pcars Tuning? For online racing it seems like there would need to be four separate Sub-forums. Organizing cross-platform leaderboards here on GTP would be quite fascinating as well if in fact lap-times can be legitimately compared as well. Jordan, have you ordered up more bandwidth? ...........👍

One Project Cars sub-forum should be able to handle it easily. Tunes, online racing etc. ,only need have a marker identifying them with the platform they were created on. Personally, I'd much rather see the whole community stick together in this, rather than separate us into much smaller groups.
