I'll probably get grief for this thread... as you all know its possible to cut the corners in online races. suzuka being the worst for this i think. (fuji hairpin is up there as well) I'll have to admit, when the whole grid does it, i have to join in and cheat to run at the front. Don't you think this ruins the spirit of a "simulation"? Any comments welcome :)

NO you do not have to follow the pack and cheat, i get more pleasure finishing mid pack without cheating than finishing first with cheating.

This has been discussed many-o-times... but the worst thing you can do IMO is stoop down to their level... and the satisfaction is GREAT if you manage to stay ahead of the cheater by staying on track... :D

i know what steveo is say here about finishing mid pack and not cheating but i cant handle it when other drivers fly past me on the grass. it winds me up to a point where i do the same and win races doing it... I hope the developers for GT5 realise this and penalise all the short cuts and not just some of them.

I don't play online too often so don't really know how bad the corner cutting is, if you mean using the kerbs then I think that is ok

using kerbs is fine :) doing the double right hander at suzuka all over the grass is a bit debatable.. although i'm very good at this now :ouch:

If it's really that bad then KY or someone else at PD should realise this and build in a more responsive penalty system, I am hoping that there are private race rooms in GT5 so the racing can be fairer.

One time I was racing at Suzuka on the straight approaching 130r, I had a much better exit from the previous corner than the guy in front so I gave him a really wide berth when going for the pass, he waited until I was along side him then just drove into the side of me firing me off into the barriers and pretty much ruining my race. This is one of the reasons I don't really bother with online too much . . .

It IS really that bad, For a game that we all know is the best driving sim out there. It seems a little sloppy from the developers to allow this simple, very effective cheating to be allowed. I'm off now to Suzuka to bang in some 1 min laps across the grass :)

You guys should check the race events forum... A lot of GTP tagged and non-tagged drivers make races there and if youre racing with them and the group you dont have to worry about being punted in the corners or entering corners side-by-side etc.

It would be funny if they suddenly implemented a black flag penalty online and tell you to pit in and out for cutting through the grass and if the driver refused the penalty he would be banned for a few days online.....LOL

Times like this good racers do Time Trials.

I havent raced online in a few days because Fuji and Daytona are the only races people are taking part in. Should I get "Chadwicked" or should I go to Fuji and get dive bombed every turn? I'll say neither, but I will get a ton of Top 10 TT times... and a huge number of "Top American" spots as I like to say.

Black flag and drive trough would be nice, if they ignore it they should be disqualified, not banned.

What bothers me is that some of these people give you a well timed and accurate 'bump' when you're racing at +200KM/H so you lose control over your car and spin out.
Even worse is when they give you a bump and YOU get the penalty..

I hope the whole penalty system will be better in the full version.

It's like in the daytona event (expert 800pp) and everyone are at a lower PP to start in front of the grid. One time we were eight and about 3 people (including me) were at 800PP. I saw one person a 790PP. The funniest part is that I started first. I don't know why ?

This isnt on pro physics right? I dont see no one cheating @ Suz, I have seen people cutting the chicaine @ Fuji though. :dunce:

👍

I think the game could do a penalty by speed checking, so it doesn't penalty going off course because you missed the braking point:

If car speed is over 60 mph (no braking) = penalty.
If car speed is over 60 mph (full braking) = no penalty.
If car speed is under 60 = no penalty.

I was in the XJ slipstreaming a Calafornia, when I was fairly near he slammed the brakes on - I had absolutely no time to react and smashed into the back of him prior to getting a 5 second penalty.

Sly or what?!

i had someone do that while i was slipstreaming on fujis long straight. I thought it was strange braking on a long straight but now i know it must be a new "technique" for defensive driving!

As long as online races are open to whoever, were gonna see "stupid" behavior. I still laugh every time some melvin thinks he is going to make you crash by parking in a tight turn. :dunce:

or driving round the track backwards

It would be good if there was a sliding scale penalty system for bad driving,

1. racing incident (understeering into a car for example) - 5 second penalty
2. wall riding, punting or repeated brake testing - 10, 15 or 20 second penalty depending on the amount of carnage
3. blatant bad behaviour (parking broadside on the racing line or driving towards oncoming cars) - instant 24 hour exclusion from online racing with repeat offenders getting lengthier bans

Black flag and drive trough would be nice, if they ignore it they should be disqualified, not banned.

In real racing when a driver is given a drive trough penalty and refuses to pit he gets blackflaged and disqualified from the race. So in my opinion if someone gets penalized online for a drive trough be it his fault or not he has to pit. Ignoring it would show disregard for the rules and does not deserve to be allowed to race at least for a few days at least. Given that he is given a chance to pit in and out he can easily get out of being suspended online and continue racing and a chance to race and win on the next race to prove to who ever got him in trouble that he can be the better driver. With this type of penalty it will make anyone think twice of hitting someone due to the fact that it will totally take away the chance of winning the race if he has to pitt in and out. If he totally disregards it just proves he can't follow the rules and should not be allowed to play online at least for a while.

Now for official tournament races in private rooms or PD tournaments their should be live race official to double check on the race incidents and have control on what penalties to apply with replays to boot incase one whats to protest it.
