Winamp 5 discussion

Hey guys I was wondering how you guys liked winamp3? Seems like there's a lot of problems with it and it takes up a lot of resources for me.

Hated it. I havent used winamp3 in several months. Stayed with winamp2 for along time til winamp5. Winamp5 is awesome.

As long as winamp 5 doesn't use a huge amount of resources, or has that stupid media library as default and have such effin complicated plugins i'll use it.

lol, gee... maybe I will go delete winamp3... I was reluctant to use it anyways and I've always loved Winamp 2.8. I just like the skins you can get for winamp3 so much better than 2.

Doesn't seem like it, I just downloaded it now and my computer froze in a worseresreeesrer manner then Win3.

I haven't tried version 5.

I prefer function over form, I only ever use the default skins anyway. I've tried out a few of those flashy winamp3 skins, but half of the stuff never got used. Just gimme the default 2.91 skin.

i used to leik winamp 3 but now that i have winamp 5 pro rc8 im leik d00d this r0x0z it so much mpre cleaned up and it doesnt suck!

it takes up like 15-20 mb of mem and it runs perfectly fine when its playing a video and ripping a cd and doesnt slew my pc to a crawl

Hmm i'm running 2.91 at the moment with a few other apps. It's taking about 7.4 megs in resources.

It didn't have the shell extensions, whiich was the best part of Winamp 2.x, so it got downgraded on my system.

Winamp3 sucks. It uses way too many resources, it kept stuffing up the ID tags for my .ogg files and it doesn't have a 'Generate HTML Playlist' option. 👎 The only good thing Winamp3 had was the Enqueue option. As for WA3 skins, I don't see the big fuss about them. I mean, Winamp is usually running in the background on my PC and the only time I see it is when I go to change songs - which takes like 5 seconds.

Winamp 2.91 on the other hand uses little resources, doesn't screw around with my .ogg ID tags and has a 'Generate HTML Playlist' option.

I'm trying Winamp 5 RC8 at the moment. The Modern Skin looks like crap. Way too wide. I'm running Winamp 5 with the Classic skin (Winamp 2x revisited) and it only uses 2mb of resources! It also has good support for my precious .ogg files and also has the 'Generate HTML Playlist' option. 👍

I really like Winamp 5 RC8. It has the performance of 2 and the skin compatibility of 3. I have 5 installed for about two weeks and it has not crashed once, compared to 3 that would crash at least once a day.

I started with winamp 3, it was destroying my system resources. That made me switch to winamp2. When i got my ipod, i downloaded iTunes and played around with it. The way that sucker handles mp3s is just amazing...it's all i use now

Told you .. Mine's been streaming for a few hours now, and it's at 13Megs.. But hey - My Messenger is at 15 so I'm not complaining... (I should add that I've been playing around with skins and opacity (Which btw.. Although useless is amazingly cool) and **** which doesn't help mem usage at all)

I'm using the modern skin now with it set to 50% opacity and it's only using 7mb while playing. Those winamp guys got it right this time. 👍
