My PC only crashed about 12 times tonight alone; mostly because of RealOne and Windows Media Player. :banghead: I would like XP, but my parents are cheap asses so i'll probably never get it.:(

Anything by Real Networks is usually poorly coded. I used to have it on my system and it gave me nothing but grief. Do what i did, save up and buy yourself XP. I saved up and bought a new computer because I was tired of using an outdated piece of electronics.

I have 1 huge problem to get around though; my grandfather controls the money like he's Hitler.  *slaps self in face for giving money to him;) * My parents are such dumbasses that all work on this PC is done by a pothead.

Programs aren't supposed to crash, no matter who made them. Obviously, there is something wrong with your installation of Windows 98. Try formatting your drive and reinstall Windows.

You paid $20 for XP?! I got mine for FREE! ;)

Just download it off of Kazaa. Sheesh.

I'm not going to, because xp is a pain in the ass.

Do yourself a favor, get a stable system.

XP is very stable. XP is just Windows 2000 version 5.1, which itself is just NT version 5.

I've seen more problems on Windows 2000 SP3 at school than on my XP Pro SP1 system at home.

98SE on my PC acts weird as hell sometimes. It'll go through periods of time w/ out any BSOD's or program lockups, then sometimes it has more program lockups and BSOD's than Bill Clinton's number of gf's. :P

I have found that win98 works better on older machines than new ones. I used Win98SE on my old PII 266 machine for ages and it was stable, same with my IBM but at the time it had a 400mhz celeron and about 64mb of ram, I even ran it on our old family computer and had no problems and that was a custom built jobbie (although it had a crap motherboard) PII 350. The only thing is that Windows 98 isn't too good when it comes to memory management in comparison with ,NT4, 2K and XP so it needs a restart now and then. Personally I preffer 2K over XP but I am having ago with XP at the moment and i'm still not too impressed with it. Mainly because I had to change even more settings than I do with 2K to get the computer running how I like it, maybe I should make a script so I don't have to do this all the time but I can't be arsed. Most people who use computers and don't know what they are doing usually have unstable crashing computers because the install loads of crap which makes the system unstable in the first place.

My PC used to have the same problems with 98SE crashing every 5 seconds. Once I reformatted and installed everything correctly it hasn't caused me grief for 4 months running!

Right on, I have to agree there. Gates should have re-named Windows XP to Windows MC (monkey Chunks). It runs great while everything is working, but trying to troubleshoot one problem will lead to more problems and evetually your CD burner not working, then you software going haywire and then the laziness of fixing your own computer runs into the scam because you don't have enough time for it. In all honesty, it is time to go back to windows 3.11, it was solid because it was completely based off DOS. None of this GUI crap, nor programs developed by half brained Microsoft certified programmers that got their degree by just reading a book instead of sitting down an used their own coding instead of Microshaft's Proprietary coding that will crash anything it touchs.
