I remember being amazed the car came down on its wheels.

It came not long after Riccardo Patrese flew his Williams (in '92) down the pit straight, either at Spain or Portugal, after hitting the back of another car that was going into pit lane. That was a freak one - car could quite easily have flown into the pits.

If memory serves me correctly (and I'm not certain it is), Patrese hit Berger, and it was at Portugal. If it was Patrese in a Williams, the last year it would have been was 1992.

Yeah - I think you're right on both counts. I remember there being a bit of a to-do afterwards because Patrese said Berger slowed and Patrese thought Berger was pitting - and I also remember some smart-arse comments at the time about how the active suspension would cope with being upside down (not very well apparently).

Funnily enough, one of LoudMusic's crash avatars is a picture of the incident...

If I have a long ahead lead, I make sure to go to the start / finish line and stop dead at the lane where all the chasing gang runs. I managed to have a couple of dudes bump me into victory a couple of times.
It is risky sometimes though, at the trial mountain I once fell 3rd when two of the #$%&* guys rans thru different lanes and straight beside me as the 3rd incomer rammed into my trunk pushing me into the 3rd position... :P

Always celebrate with a victory 360, but the best is in the superspeedway, when lapping cars to see if you can do a 360 all the way around another car on the track. It is some good fun, and makes for great replays.

Love it so much. Some times I do it during races. On seattle, on the back long strights (well its acutally a fast long bend) do a 360 and turn stright into the corner. Classic!!! Happy to see that others do it too. My friend and his girlfriend always laughs at me when I do it. Its an ego thing. Cos u know we're the best!!!

a 360 degree spin over the finish line, so you cross the finish line facing backwards.

:odd:

That's impossible...

Anyways, no, you're not the only one who does a 180-360 spin over the finish line. I do it also...;)

You actually do a 360 degree spin, it's just that you're half way through it as you go OVER the line - the computer catches the spin after the finish line.

Could have phrased it better, true, but it's not wrong as such - :P

YES all the time. Sometimes if i am very far ahead. I do a 180 quite a ways away from the finish line and finish the race in resverse.

Wow, THIS thread got dredged up out of the vault!

It's funny because I also do a victory slide if I have a big lead. In fact I did one last night, only to look up and see: A) my wife looking at me like I was insane, B) my position number dropping 1-2-3-4-5-6 as the field zoomed past me, and C) the lap counter saying LAP 2/3 ! Nothing like a little premature celebration to dampen the spirits...

The other thing I do if I have a big lead at Trial Mountain is nail the berm in the last chicane wide open and see how much air I can catch for the replay.

I usually spin, but recently, I've been trying to slide sideways through it. it's also fun to make the 2nd place car t-bone you over the line.

Lol, I thought I was the only one that did that. This is great.
(maybe I should get out more-lol)
How can you not celebrate when you win a race??

Well my celeabation is to do a Burnout all the way across the line.

Or if I'm going real fast like 200+ I slam the car into 1st gear. A rev the engine way up.

I just drive close to the pit lane on the last time through the main straight, to celebrate with the crew or something like that.

ahh yea, that and much more, i sometimes stop just before the finish line, do a standing burnout and then do a donut, with a good lead, hell, you can go back to the beginning of the straight after all that and then pull a 180 or 360 over the line, whatever makes you dominate your ego more. :)

Yeah, i've done this a few times...there's nothing worse than going instantly from hero to zero. It's like you get all psyched to slide across and a few seconds later “eh, where are the race credits? How come the computer's not driving me yet? DOH!!”

In rallying you would quickly release the handbrake to allow the car to turn,

Wrong :D

in rallying they do not use the handbrake for a scandinavian flick, its the momentum of the car as it is flicked from one side to the other that gets it round the turns.

I like to do what I call gold spins, Ie spin 360 without hitting the wall at the end of a gold licence test. I have Gold spins for all the licenses that the car can go
fast enough to spin. I saved them all on my mem card. It is a challenge to be far
enough ahead of the gold time to get away with it. I like to hit reverse as I go around, It seems to make the spin more violent. It doesn't seem to work very well
in GT-4 though. It would be nice if the computer didn't take control so quickly after
the finish line.
