Yeah, VAG build quality at Honda prices is a good thing.

By the way...and I'm sorry YSSMAN, but as a rural boy, I find this terribly irritating...It's "Y'all."

If you guys get the new model, you'll also get the new engines. As far as I know the new Polo will come with a 1.2 TSI & 3 versions of the 1.4 TSI (2 with twincharger). The 1.4 TSI is the most technologically advanced small (petrol) engine in Europe at the moment, so don't worry then that the beautiful technologies will stay in Europe.
If NA will accept diesel, you might also get a 60 mpg diesel version...

You don't want the current Polo though. It's a great car, but it's also 7 years old. Time for something new. Also the Polo GTI is far from the benchmark his older brother is... Doesn't go as well as it looks.

If the polo is gonna be fightings fit's, yaris' etc then it will be a major sucess imho.
^ Take note, the Polo is an easy win against the Yaris, Versa, SX4, (Daewoo-Chevy) Aveo, Scion xD/xB, and Accent/Rio.

-> But with the Fit? I don't know, despite with its high demand/short supply handicap; it is by far the benchmark of the B segment here in the US, and been selling very well as shipment arrives at dealers. Even Top Gear hailed it.

-> The Polo has an edge on engine and body style choices. It will be a very tough battle between the two. Honda should release the L13 1.3L VTEC for the base model. ;)

Agreed for european standards the polo and even the ibiza desperately needs the new chassis. Word has it though that the next gen polo retains the crappy rear suspension in revised form whilst the ibiza will share the rear suspension setup of the upcoming audi a1 giving the cars the chance to topple to mini.

We wouldn't see the Polo, at the earliest, until 2010... So we'd get the new one without a doubt. By that same time-frame, we should be getting the MKVI Golf/Rabbit and Jetta. Should make me a very happy VW fan!

I have the sudden urge to start quoting Jeff Foxworthy.

if your family tree doesn't branch...
if you go to family reunions to find women...
if more cars in your front yard are on block than those that are not...

i believe if they go with the idea that the Polo is going to be a sort of freakish smart car than it would be great but if they think it's going to be just a cheap car in their lineup it has no place here.

The Fit and co. are already just the "cheap" cars in the lineup. And that cheap is appropriate for that market segment. not to mention that VW acts as a budget brand already. And they offer the quality of cars costing much twice as much.

@SagarisGTB: You'll want the Polo Wagon then. More room to make love there.

No thanks. I once spent 3 hours in the back of a Polo. Not something my poor legs want to be reminded of.

The Polo isn't intended to be a family hauler. The Polo is something you use to go to the grocery store or work. If you want to carry more than two people at a time, use the Golf.

Of course! However, at the time I was young and naive. It was either ride in the back of a friend's Polo for free or pay to take the train. Next time, Im taking the train.

I'd rather sit in the back of my mates Lupo for 3 hours than taking the train.

Hopefully I'll see how my frame (6ft, wears 33inch inside leg jeans) will fit into a new Polo next week as my mate has just got one.

I would be surprised if the space wasn't livable. The Golf has huge amounts of space, I'm sure the Polo will be much bigger inside than out too.

We've had 4 six-footers at a time, a bike on a different occasion and recently four people with 3 people's stuff for 5 days.

It's really can not be any different then the Mini, Yaris, Aveo, or Fit as far as space it concerned.

That may be, but Smart isn't a very big company, despite the fact that everyone knows about them. If VW made the Polo diesel or gave it hybrid options it would be a very big smart killer, in that it would be far more accessible than the smart cars; therefore more people would buy the polo than the Smarts

Smart is ran by the Daimler AG...it's a pretty big company.

That would be interesting to see though. UK members?

People here don't know about Smart. Every time I hear about them, it's "that little tiny itty bitty car." When I respond "Smart?" they still don't understand. It's about as popular as a Polo over here.

Polo with a diesel? That would certainly do pretty good here.

Yes, and they're idiots just like BMW (MINI) for not planning to have a dealer in Grand Rapids... At least we've got two VW ones!

Compared to the Fit (Jazz), the Polo is promising. If they can price it similarly, offer the right engines and transmissions, as well as a halfway decent suspension... They'll sell plenty fine. If its a "shrunken Rabbit," my guess is that it will win on it's "adult personality" and "stellar build quality," however, one does find it hard to top the Fit. That car is just so damn good...

did I ever tell you about that VW Jetta, I saw, that had no grill, no rear bumper, missing one window, cracked front window, low tire pressure in all 4 tires, and was only a 2005?

What does this really have to do with anything? I saw a brand new 2007 Ford Focus with a missing rear bumper...accidents can happen no matter how new the car is.

And you have a GTI in your avatar? I'm confused.

Not to mention, the rock-solid reliability of the aircooleds, and that the VWs my family's owned havent' had that many problems.

Ask him about his reliability issues with it.

i like VWs. They don't exactly have "Bullet-proof" reliability, But they sure are better than some American cars. I honestly would consider a Polo as my first car. Or possibly an '09 Camaro, but that's a different story.

VWs are hit and miss, so it really depends on when you're buying. The newer models are leagues ahead of their MKIV predecessors, but it was the MKII and early MKIII models that were the most-reliable and easiest to work on.

My VW is a pain in the ass in the winter, but the rest of the year, I can't say I have many complaints.

Yeah, dad had an '86 Golf, which only broke down once that I can remember. They bought it because I was born: they had gotten a Rabbit Cabrio just before!

VW's in europe are known to be reliable. Are the VW's that are sold in america built in mexico or something?
