I'd like to start a rally series for GT3. There seems to be a real lack of these around, so I'm taking it upon myself to change that.

Here are some preliminary ideas, please give your comments/suggestions.

1. Each entrant would choose any of the WRC cars that can be won/bought in the Simulation Mode.

2. Any settings changes may be made to the cars, but no modifications other than oil changes can be purchased/installed.

3. Each race will take place in Arcade Mode, consisting of several laps around a rally circuit.

4. After the first race, the first place car will receive no penalty in the next race, while the second place car will receive a small penalty on the next race's time. Third place will receive a larger penalty, and so on. This is to simulate the WRC's running of the cars in a specific order, chosen by the drivers. The first place driver chooses when to run in the next stage, and usually chooses to run last, when gravel has been cleared from the stage. (Not sure about this rule.)

5. I'd like to add some kind of random 'catastrophe' element, where cars would randomly have some sort of problem, adding time to the final stage times. I'm not sure how this would work and still be fair. Perhaps every person in the series would be required to take a one minute penalty on a Stage of their choosing.

6. Points will be based on drivers' finishes for each Stage. Manufacturers' points would also be calculated for fun.

What do you all think?

Also, as some sort of a parallel series, perhaps we could devise simple classes for non-WRC cars, such as basic power groupings and drivetrain.

Just so I can run my 550hp WRX... :smilewink

Oh, and I was looking for comments on the series idea, not my grammar/spelling!

I'd like to add that we'd need to limit the number of entrants for a particular car. Maybe like 4 or so, on a first-come-first-served basis. That would keep everyone from jumping on the 'best' rally car right away and forcing a 12 on 1 type of scenario.

altf8,

i would do this. tell me how to get updates emailed to me so i dont miss it. i will be there....

Lav, just stick around here. We're probably looking at 1-2 months before a good, solid rule base is complete, however.

We've learned from our mistakes. :)

Excellent!

First off, I WASN'T commenting on the grammar/spelling; I've known you long enough to kno wyou can't type worth **** :Poke: :P :D

Actually, I was formulating ideas for the catastrophes. Something like a D&D enconter table. As soon as I get sumpin' more tangble, I'll IM ya.

I'd love to see this race series, it sounds like fun, no escudo's right? I hope not, i cannot stand those things.

No, no Escudos. WRC cars only.

Good, hey Alt like with the non racing mod rally cars like the 22b Impreza we can race those right?

Not in the main series. I might have a parallel series where non-race cars are legal.

Alt, Sounds good to me. When were you planning on getting this series kicking off? I like the idea of pulling a car from a hat and using that car for that rally event. Ideally we would have 12 entrants using the 12 different WRC cars.

Not sure if the penalty/catastrophe thing would work as some people might feel their being targeted for penalities unfairly.

Let's get this show on the road

That reminds me of a idea someone brought up - in IM, I think.

Instead of letting people pick their cars, we'll just have people randomly assigned to a car. That way, it's fair for everyone.

I only count 11 cars. Let me list them here, and you guys can correct me if I'm missing any.

- Peugeot 206 Rally Car
- Toyota Corolla Rally Car
- Lancia Delta HF Integrale Rally Car (may not be competitive)
- Ford Escort Rally Car
- Ford Focus Rally Car
- Subaru Impreza Rally Car
- Subaru Impreza Rally Car Prototype
- Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Rally Car
- Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII Rally Car Prototype
- Citroen Xsara Rally Car
- Toyota Celica Rally Car

You could also use the -

Toyota Celica Rally Car.

Pointless including the Citreon Xsara as it's FF.

Ah, duh.

Hmmm...I don't think 'pointless' is the right word. Is the Xsara slower than the rest on the average?

I don't have hard evidence at the moment, but as it's the only FF it would seem a little unfair to include it. In theory it should fly around the tight twisty tarmac tracks as it did in France to win it's first race in the WRC. Those cars tend to suffer badly from understeer, even more than the 4WD's from my GT3 racing experience with them. We really need to do a quick race comparrision against the WRX for example to see if it's worth including it.
