Just hope that Darren Oliver can at least get to the 7th so that the bullpen isn't completely destroyed for game 4.

I'm completely done in trying to pick winners in playoff series. I've been wrong in every single series so far, and the Cards are about to go up 2-1 over my pick the Mets.

Look how they massacred my boys...

Ciao!

That was a pretty bad game for the Mets. They can still win, but momentum is not on their side.

Maybe not yesterday...but it'll probably be today. The Cardinals starter pitcher is a rookie who was very rubbish througt out the entire season...we'll take care of him ;)

But I have to give props to Suppan, that guy pitched the game of his life and he even hit a homer off traschel...He deserved it.

Ciao!

That was a great performance by Suppan. Props to him. Seems like a great guy, too.

Man, the NL sucks so bad. Jeff Suppan pitches well and so does Jeff Weaver. And Guillermo Mota is actually a crucial piece to a playoff team. Hell, Chris Carpenter was total garbage when he was with the Blue Jays, granted it was a small sample.

So Taguchi hit a homerun. David Eckstein is a shorstop on a team that may go to the World Series. Yadier Molina is hitting over .400.

Is it just the DH or are NL teams just that untalented?

I think it's both. For probably few years now, I thoght the American League teams were just more talented. Personally, I don't like DHs, plus, I like the NL teams better, so I do tend to root more for them.

With the designated hitters, it does change the whole game for the NL pitchers. While AL pitchers are used to it, it affects NL pitchers ability to pitch around tough batters.

Regardless of which NL team makes it to the World Series, they will lose to Detroit.
Klostrophobic

You forgot Scott Spiezio being a hero.

Scott Spiezio is no hero. The problem is that he is a good player overall and pitchers don't mind him too much, they care more about Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen and such guys...they walk them, and finally they get to Spezio thinking they can get him easily, he hits and boom! he's a hero...

If the pitchers start throwing seriously when he steps up to the plate, Tony Larussa will put him in the 8th spot in no time.

Ciao!

I think this time you're being waay too sarcastic Klos. Anthony Reyes is nowhere near to be the 4th best pitcher for the Cards...all the other guys have post-season experience except Reyes...plus when he came in to the majors, they told him that he had to have a pitch other than the 4 seam fastball!

I think it'll be a bullpen's duel today.

I just got home and turned on the TV, too. I was going, "hey, they tied it, 2-2!". When I was at the Blazers(basketball) fan event, they had the game on the tv at the Arena and it was 2-1, Mets. But seconds later, BAM! :ouch:

It's early, yet!

Hey, man, I'm rooting for the Mets too.

Just didn't think Tony Reyes would be that bad.

EDIT: OK, it wasn't Reyes who was bad; it was more LaRussa for taking him out and then the bullpen doing their best Jose Lima impression.

Ohh ok :D

BTW, If the Sox would have gone to the playoffs instead of the Mets, I would've root for them ;)

Let's go Mets!

EDIT: Well, game's over...it seems like we tied the series :D

See ya tomorrow folks!!

Meh, I'm bored.

Starting pitchers:

St. Louis Cardinals

Jeff Weaver : There's some question as to how Weaver (1-1, 1.69 ERA this postseason; 8-14, 5.76 ERA regular season) will respond to pitching on three days' rest, but he has demostrated that he can be as effective as any cardinal pitcher in the post season so far, allowing two runs in 10 2/3 innings. He's had a little more trouble at home than on the road, and there is the issue of short rest.

New York Mets

Tom Glavine: We always feel we're in good hands with Glavine (2-0, 0.00 ERA this postseason; 15-7, 3.82 ERA regular season), and never more so than in the postseason, with his ability to crank it up a notch. His sixth career LCS win in the series opener was Glavone's 14th postseason win, leaving him one away from record-holder and former teammate John Smoltz. Glavine. The question now is how well Glavine responds on three days' rest after making 89 pitches in Game 1. His stuff was alive, his command close to flawless. On his game, in a big game, there's still no one better.

Both pitchers are anxious to take the ball on game 5 and the short rest seems to cause no worries for none of them.

Offense:

St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals hit three homers, but they allowed the Mets a quartet of long balls and a six-run sixth inning to lose the lead in the NLCS. Yay! :D

Nevertheless, the Cardinals have not shown any kind of offensive problems, unlike the Mets who have Cliff Floyd on the DL. But there's one player who has not demostrated to be as good on this postseason as he wanted Tom Glavine to be. And that is Albert Pujols; with a batting average of .286, 0 RBI, 0 Homeruns and 4 hits out of 14 AB is making the upcoming match-up between Pujols and Glavine even more exciting.
The rest of the line up have done their part. On Saturday's game, even the pitcher homered for his cause; players that have not hit many home runs during the regular season are now being the anchor of the cards offense, Ichiro Ta guchi, Yadier Molina, and the team's spark David Eckstein are examples of this.

New York Mets

The so called sleepy monster has woken up. As last night they battered the Card's bullpen 12-5. The Carlos duo has absolutely met the expectations from Met fans, both of them have hit 2 home runs in one game during the series, and the kind of pressure that they put on the opposing pitchers is really what the Mets need to start or keep up a momentum going.
David Wright, despite hitting a home run last night, has been quite during the series with only 1 hit and 1 RBI in 13 AB, hopefully last night reminded all of them, what made them win 97 games in the regular season. They were by far the best team in the National League.

Who I think it's going to win?.....honestly?

NEW YORK METS!!! :D

Ciao!

Weaver is going to get lit the hell up.

I really don't want to see the World Series because I fear the Tigers are just going to stomp all over the NL team. St. Louis has no offense and no pitching and it's amazing that they even made it to the playoffs. The Mets are going to be throwing Oliver Perez into a World Series game potentially. Think about that for a second. And what happens when they need a DH? So Taguchi? Endy Chavez? Ha.

Everybody has been questioning the Mets pitching capabilities on the post season, and for a team that has lost possibly their 2 best starters they have held up pretty well. One starter who never really pitched well, is not going to be a concern to them because that's what they've been going through all this time, plus, their offense is what should worry the opposing team, as they are the ones who have steped up for us.

This being said, the DH issue can be considered as peanuts.

Is there anything crappier than a rain-out during the playoffs? That should be the definition of anti-climax. At least MNF is on...

The Cardinals better not win. They are boring, soul-less team with a creepy goblin manager. The only upside would be seeing the Tigers destroy them.

I take it that Cards hung on to the lead, huh?

After the 6th inning, I got into "Elizabeth Town" of all movies. Forgot all about the game. :ouch: I don't think St. Louis stands a chance against Detroit, but I sure hope they'll get to the World Series.

Go, Kaadinals!

I just yawn whenever the Cards are on TV. They have no face; no identity. They went to the World Series two years ago, and went out with a whimper in an incredibly boring Series (other than watching the Sox Rouge break "The Curse"). I don't want another boring World Series that ends in a sweep. The Mets are a better match for the Tigers.

I haven't predicted a single occurence in the playoffs yet. Not once. Not even a little thing like where a pitcher will perform well or not. Zilch. It's like I've morphed into John Kruk overnight. Minus the fat and obnoxious.

I blame Tony LaRussa and his Sunglasses of Turgidity.
