Yeah I like the idea of having to pay for damaged cars. I guess it could get a little frustrating if you write off your beloved ferrari or something though...
Maybe they could impliment some kind of insurance system - you can pay x amount of credits and they will cover the cost of damage? It could also take into consideration how many previous claims you've made etc, just like real insurance.

Maybe in full blown career races, but definitely not if I'm just messing around in a time trial or something.

And even then, I wouldn't want repair prices to reflect their real life counterparts, but be more consistent for given parts.

No. Damage during the races is enough. I wouldn't mind a reduction in the prize money for the race but paying separate would be a bad idea.

It's funny how people want the "real driving simulator", but don't want to simulate paying for a wrecked car. Sigh

My opinion exactly. Sometimes I believe people want the game to be "real" only when it will add to the fun.

I like the way Forza does it, the money for repairs comes out of your race winnings. I would like GT to do the same thing.

NFS Porsche had 'pay for damage' and it added to the dynamic of the game a great deal!

You wouldn't just drive like an idiot to achieve the goals.

In a way GT3/4 had a damage in the form of tyre wear, which imho made you drive carefully, so adding damage to the car that is relatively cheap to sort out would also add something to the fun of it I think. Say 10% of total value for heavy damage (ie, several large crashes from very high speed into barriers)

I don't know about you guys, but if I race one of my cars, and bang it up on the track, the next time I go to my garage to use it, I almost still want it to be all banged up the way I left it. I kind of hate that the damage will magically disappear, I think there should definitely be consequences if you crash your car. It makes you care for them more. I almost want to see a repair shop in addition to oil change and car wash.

Need for Speed: High Stakes did the same. However, I would like to be able to choose if I want to repair the car or not. Obviously, if I don't, then some really dangerous races await me...

This. I like how Forza handles damage costs and bonuses for difficulty settings.

The damage thing only applies on races, so you can go be an idiot in a test run if you so choose. It was nice to go out and test my tuning setup and know that I can push it as hard as possible to test the limits without fear of the resulting cost.

I"t would be awesome for me, then I will care more to drive safe because I don"t want to spend money on damaged part"s...:sly:

Absolutely. Would be great if you could crash it even beyond being repairable... so you'd have to throw it away with tears in your eyes.

Realism is what's it about.

As Mr.Whippy said, NFS Porsche did that, too
Abusing your car would cost you more than you would win in some races.
So if you wanted to make money you would have to drive not only fast, but also careful

IMHO it really adds to a career mode, but only if the AI is good enough, meaning better than in the previous parts.
The best way would be to make it an option, so you could switch it off if you don't like it.

+1 👍

I agree with shawtyoner that the damage should hold untill I pay to have it repaired. It would be cool to see how many races you could get through without repairing the car.

Would also be cool to see some sort of damage/use on used cars. Or what if you could go to a GT junkyard and purchase a car that had major damage, and pay to bring it back to life.

i'd like that too .. would be pretty nice if they could make repairs like Colin Mc'Rae Rally 04 & 05, where you did repairs at the end of a stage, and could repair different sections of your car like body, suspension, engine, transmission .. so you could fix up the most damaged parts, and leave the body smashed up ( if you're low on money :D )

This also would be a great idea, how often do you buy a used car that's mint lol. As far as race cars go, that's where it gets tricky, because for obvious reasons, full blown race cars are amazingly expensive. What would be cool is if PD implement sponsorships that you can gain throughout your career, which in turn can help you pay for any damages, maybe even pick up the tab completely dependind on how much prestige you gain? I don't know. Just shooting from the hip here :)

I swear I thought that once when looking at a thread in the Cars in General sub-forum. 👍 👍

Yeah, I played that old game on summer holidays and I loved that system, that way, I repaired only the engine, brakes and the suspension, I never cared about the exterior :sly:.

Also if you crash your car totally and if car can"t be repair then you should buy new car!!! That is real stuff like in real race...

Pay for damage repair would surely limit that punters from the online side of the game. For that reason alone I'd like to have it in there.

no to arcade, time trial etc.
yes to online races, career mode etc

makes me think of NFS Shift demo, all cars just crash into the first corner.

I said that a long while ago. Problem solved, and it fosters competitiveness.

I would like to pay for damage. But I don't want to be able to total any cars, to the point of buying a new one. That would suck, since race cars are spendy, and it takes a while to earn back that kind of cash. But paying to repair a car, sure.

Punters:tdown:

It'd make people race cleaner I think. And really, if I damage my car, you should get punished outside of the race somehow, so that it can force you to become a better driver, does it not?

I wouldn't mind it at all. If you have trouble on a race with it, get out of the race, and do free runs with that car on the track you have trouble with.

But if you total it, maybe you could pay half of the base price you paid for the car, and that would be that. Just an idea. If you couldn't pay it off, it'd be in the repair shop until you could.
